Now that this thread has been sufficiently knocked off course, I bid you all good day. :D

What I call "disclosed favoritism" or "open bias" can be fine with me. I've never understood the hubbub over doing good things and being played as a favorite -- otherwise, the seas are a boring, Harrison Bergeron-esque sea of gray mediocrity. DYNAMICS!! When I see something or someone I like in SL, I become more aware, I get to know... but does that make it any less "fair" just because they're my friend now? And to add into the equation that I like to make more friends, and strangers have a tendency to become that way over time? Obviously, I am biased towards a LOT of stuff. ;)

The aforementioned paragraph was intentionally confusing.

Now, word choices are a subtle thing but can point to a lot. Calling Lindens "system administatrators" instead of the natively common term may say something about your -- Severe's -- perspective of Second Life.

While it sounds like a frustrating situation, I'd like to gently ask: have you talked to the Lindens about this privately? :)

Of course there's favouritism. The Lindens always pick on the ones who cause trouble, and leave alone the ones who just get on with their SL not hurting anyone. This is wrong! Why should it always be the guilty who get punished? Why can't some innocents get banned too... that would show fairness!

** and Re: your other thread... I was not aware that LL was obligated to check in with us before hiring contractors or otherwise... and they have put the "we're hiring" in the MOTD so I dunno what you're getting at there.
The jobs listed on the employment section of Linden Lab's site are all for those in San Francisco, not contracting positions (except for an international liaison job). And of course LL shouldn't have to check in with players before hiring contractors. But remember this post from Ben Linden, when he asked Second Life residents to donate avatars, clothing, vehicles, builds, scripts, etc. for the Teen Grid? All the people who gave things at his request did so for free, and it looks like those players who are favored by Lindens got paid US$ for contributing stuff. And this doesn't directly affect me since I didn't contribute anything. But I think that, since some players got paid for content that will be used in the Teen Grid, all players who contributed content to the Teen Grid should get paid for it.

That's what seem fair. That's it, that's all.

Ummm, Ava? Did you miss the response you got to your post in the Linden Hotline forum?...

From: someone
Occasionally we have hired residents to help with content projects for a variety of different things -- creating special avatars for a CD as an example. Currency payments vary depending on the project and the contract with the resident. Ben and Ryan asked for content donations for the teen grid, but we don't currently have any residents contracting to help with teen grid content.

Chip, that statement could be interpreted in several ways. It could mean they never paid players for content for the Teen Grid, or it could mean that they have paid players for content for the Teen Grid but are no longer doing so. Robin is usually pretty direct in saying something if she is able to say it, and I'm pretty darned sure they did pay players for content for the Teen Grid. If Robin means that they never paid players for this content, then she should say so.

Sure! Following are screenshots of players meeting secretly with Lindens, and pay stubs from the checks they received from LL -- well, not really. Of course I'd not be able to get ahold of stuff like that, now would I? But guess what, I'm not really Ava! I'm an alt! (Big surprise, eh?) And my alter ego happens to have been told by a reliable source about this situation. So, of course I don't know for 100% sure, pinky-swear, cross-my-heart-and-hope-to-die if it's true or not, as noted above.

Now, if I may quote you from another recent thread (regarding the upskirt issue)... "You have only your conscience to answer to, and that is super duper trible mega subjective. I know my personal code of conduct isn't shared by eveybody." So, Aimee, I guess I could ask you (since Robin didn't really give a straight answer), do you know of anybody who got paid US$ to produce content for the Teen Grid? ;)

And I'll take my answer off the air. Thanks so much.

OK. So... You are an alt. One who accused me without evidence of conducting a legal transaction in contradiction to Robin's post. You cast aspersions with your first message: "OH AIMEE your post was SO inspiring. By the way I am going to hint without saying directly that you only posted the pro-linden stuff cause you are on the take with the Lindens".

And *I* have to answer YOUR questions?

Why don't you talk to my alt. Alt to Alt. I only talk to people who are ready to accept the consequences of what they say.

In the interest of full disclosure I guess I should let everyone know that I've been contracted to do a bronze sculpture of Aimee for the Teen Grid welcome area.

I'll donate some Lindens if it'll help get some jewels encrusted on the awesome Aimee statue.

I'm so sorry if you interpreted my original post that way, that was, of course, not my intention. In fact, I can't seem to find that in my original post, are you sure that's what it said? I guess this is one case where you would have to be "super-duper triple mega subjective," to use a snappy phrase coined by you, in order to interpret that as any accusation of anything.

My alt doesn't spend much time in-world, unfortunately, so I guess I won't be getting answer. Thanks again, Aimee, for indulging my curiosity about this whole issue, though. Your responses are much appreciated since this whole issue obviously has nothing to do with you. :)

You know, Aimee, I find your defense of the Lindens' sense of fairplay to be utterly inspiring. ;)

Favoritism exists. As much as I hate to admit it, Prokofy is right.

Honestly, who cares if LL DID pay creators for stuff for the teen grid. Big deal. If I was peddling my metaverse to teenagers I'd want to have good content in it too. So whats the problem? It's a business. Presumably they'd pay for what they think is good stuff. How would this be construed as favoratism?
