OK, I'll come clean.
Answer- I wear a scanner. I cruise around in hopes of encountering released land.
Answer- I own land in the sim. I have a scanner there.
Answer- I buy 16m plots which host a script, which IM's me if land is released nearby.
Answer- I have permission to host a script by a land owner.

I am not crucifying Schwanson, i think weedy posed some questions that are worth of consideration and that Schwanson didn't still answer in a way that clears any suspect. Seeing people regularly swoop down 1 minute after land is released quite gives out the fact that they has an automated way of detecting public land. If this is linked to Pete's scanners this is not for me to say, but this sure causes some ethical problems, see the example weedy brought. Someone accidentally releases land (unfortunately it seems to be easier than what i thought) schwanson swoops down before they can buy it again, buys the land, reprices it and then logs out, quite an unethical way to behave in my eyes, but everyone is entitled to his own opinion and business model i guess. By the way I made no threats but the persistant persecution by you and your lill peasant rabble will come back to you ....people don't seem to like idiots with pitch forks and torches. Right now people don't seem to like people with self replicating sneaky land scanners And due to the FPS increase reported today i think MANY will be thankful expecially to weedy and his grid/wide investigation. Since it sounds fun, and obviously isn't against the TOS (The lindens have known about this for months, including the player responsible, and have apparently decided it's all good), I'll make grid scanners available on request. Let me know and I'll start building them today. Just like Pete does, they will spawn roughly 100 or so objects, temp on rez and invis, with full land and avatar scanning ability, and send them out across the grid, in a 2d circular radius, at about 30 meters up. Let's all do it and join in Pete's party! In fact, let's find his land, and have ALL our scanners sweep his areas! Hey it's not malicious. We're just interested in the publicly available info in that area, and have decided to use a mechanism that the Lindens deem legal and within the TOS. If you're interested in how to do it, I'll teach you! Perpaps a public class held in Varney. If we turn on beacons, we can even observe an active pattern of usage by watching Pete's wondrous implementation. A live working example! No foul right? No TOS violation, all public info, temp on rez and all so very minor to no sim impact. I'm serious btw. I will build them and give them away for free. Why not? Consideration of other people's feelings? A wish to be civil and unintrusive? Pfft. I can profit from this info, it's legal. All I have to do is not give a damn what anybody thinks. Thanks for the idea! I'm in! I want one of your flying things too, how much are they? |
