ideas in order of decreasing income to ll:

give it to a land broker who must not be named and let her sell it for you

turn it into another double primmed nova albion sim

auction it whole as a nonrestricted core sim

make the entire sim memorial land and auction lime & plum

move the welcome center there and auction dore

ideas for new constructive luna projects that ll can build:

It's true that since we launched Luna about a year ago, several large scale malls have sprung up. Here's one possibility: When the current leases are up, Linden sells Luna as a whole sim along with the buildings. Perhaps if it were run by a resident or group of residents, there would be more action there. Other ideas?

Here is my idea, rename it Suzuka and rebuild it like this:

So finally people wopuld know where to go race without having to cope with the incredibly pesky sim border lag problems :)

I'd like to visit more malls that have lots of people shopping. Otherwise, it feels to me like a potential Day of the Dead-type thing, where I'm bouncing around quietly and then, the next thing I know it, zombies are pawing at me.

Brings a new meaning to "Resident" Evil, I guess. ;)

*ponders*

Really though, I also like the idea of a whole sim organized meticulously, updated vigorously, and specializing in freebie goodies -- a telehub SMACK IN THE MIDDLE OF IT so it's easy to get to. I really value the current freebie resources, but the first time I tried to get to them, heck, was I confused! Took some time on that. :\

Coversely, after thinking of my hero Donald Trump, I took Alby's idea to heart -- I haven't seen one of those in SL yet! I also like this idea. I wonder what all the "shouting" would be like? A lot of chat? ;) But even a place to showcase SUPER-RARE items, like unique Pokemon, would thrill me... just to look at them. A good example might be Archanox's gunblades. Or other LE items produced expressly to have some sort of noncloneyness in the replicative sea of a digital world.

I still haven't seen someone in a convincing Trump av in SL...

Okay, racetrack sim on a fast server would be a lot of fun! Why isn't Route 66 demolition derby used more too, eh?

And,

I have also wondered what it'd be like to have some sort of a Linden-monitored art gallery or creatively chaotic warehouse of sorts... (Shades of the Winter Festival, or splat1's scripter fair awhile back...) I see people with cool stuff that they don't necessarily wanna sell so it'd be noncommercial, but they deserve the exposure for the stuff that makes me go YAYZERAMA! Like Luna, a lottery could be put in place for it.

Rotation keeps it fresh . . .

Perhaps a hybrid. I'm in favor of the multitiered approach. :-)

Please, do not do any kind of special "project" or incubator or set-aside or any other thing that smacks of the inner feted elite. Do not give some players double prims and a fancy sim for no purchase price or other perks just because they are more equal than others.

You have no idea how this type of socialist subsidizing saps initiative and incites envy and hatred. I personally don't care if some set of socialists get a deal like this, but I do think it saps creativity, sets up a certain kind of inbred smugness that we already see too much of in this game, and then devalues the efforts of those who have made residential sims, or attempted to make them, all on their own, struggling with all the game's vicissitudes and the vagaries of the market.

I think the parcel should be put to auction (I don't know enough about the buildings issue to comment) and let whoever wants to pay for it develop it and set a tone for residential.

The Lindens SHOULD NOT begin a zoning effort with another pampered feted elite project. Either they do the ENTIRE GAME POPULATION the courtesy and favor of zoning, so that all may benefit with a variety of zoned sims, or they leave it alone.

I think it is possible to get a group of players together and go in and buy a sim and keep it residential.

Who could stop you?

In order to keep a sim residential, I estimate that you need to have at least 40-50 percent of the residents really committed to coming and staying in custom-built houses or houses they build on their own, people who "nest" and settle.

The pricing might stay equal to or even a little above the current land baron pricing schedule just to keep the odd land baron or freelancer from zeroing in on the land and buying up half of it before it has a chance to get started.

If you set aside any public buildings or commons, try to get tier up front from those vested in the community. One way to structure that is to have a land owner take the commons for tier for a lower price in exchange for not building on the land but just using it for prims built on his or her main lot.

I'm debating whether such a residential sim shouldn't in fact be a telehub sim. I'm thinking the opposite of the conventional wisdom here. I'm thinking that if you harness the telehub and keep it right in the residential sim, explicitly not malled and mauled, then there will be no incentive for clubs and malls to coagulate on your neighboring telehub sim and lag your neighbouring sim to such an extent that you start to feel the lag on your own sim. (This is so hotly debated even among tekkies but it doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out that when one sim lags, the one next to it, which has to have avatars looking over the border into that sim and draw distances, also feels the lag, especially if they are flying around the borders.)

No residential sim can work unless the owners are willing to put their foot down and concertedly battle the big, ugly, glowing griefer builds that we all can identify as wrong, and which the Lindens are increasingly, in their jurisprudence, identifying as "disturbing the peace" or "interfering in another player's enjoyment of the game." Residents need to develop a policy about these kinds of situations on neighbouring sims up front. There can be a scale of action starting with a friendly talk and ending with a Linden or a negrate.

I am waiting for the Lindens to develop some program called the Mysts of Lethe that floats up like ether along the edges of sims and blocks out the neighbouring sims. You can shut it on or off, like you can the sun...

Uh, Nova Albion was auctioned off like any other sim...

Yeah, and LL should rent it to residents to organize racing events with prizes and all, there would be new job openings, people working as professional pilots, cute girls working as race queens... dreams, dreams...

Uh, I know that. But that's not what Lordfly was talking about. He was talking about giving Luna an inner feted ZONED status bequeathed by the Lindens. And as you know, I have highly sensitized refined high inner feted alert monitors that go off with a high piercing scream when I hear somebody talking about getting the Lindens to give them a status that the Lindens aren't going to give to the REST OF US on all the REST OF THE SIMS. I'm keenly aware of the need for a LEVEL PLAYING FIELD. This isn't because I'm "jealous" -- I have bought my own sim or half sim when I wanted to do something -- but because I think it ruins the whole game when they do it. Why make Luna a zoning experiment? Why not bring on 10 zoned sims while you're at it?

He never said anything, or even IMPLIED anything about it being for the "feted inner elite".

You need to stop being so paranoid.

Prokofy, there have been several threads debating the merits of zoning in SL. Some folks have asked for some experimental zoned areas to, say, block clubs or large shops from being built there, and make them more "residential" sims. And of course, zoned land should be auctioned off like any other land, with the notation that it has some restrictions, so buyers know what they would be getting.

A ton of people are violently opposed to zoning of any sort in SL. I think it would be something to try, if folks want it. I wouldn't buy land in a residentially zoned sim because I don't need a "house" in SL. I want my land to be more versatile. But, if you own land in a mature sim, the ever-possible threat of a hyoooge club going in next to you and shooting your sim FPS all to hell, and possibly restricting your access to your own property if the club fills up with people and you can't get in the sim, has driven some to ask for zoning.

Personally, I don't think Luna would make a good "residentially zoned" area. I'd vote for adding it to the double-primmed city sims and putting it up on the auction block.

Lance, now Prokofy has his own sim (or half sim), he's going to get his own concierge service... How feted and inner elite is that?

I think the sim should be turned into a monument to Gallagher. We could build a 100 meter tall sculpture of him, and then have him smash stuff continuously with his gigantass hammer.

How about it?

SWEET! I've made a 100m tall statue before.. I'm sure I could polish up the head and put some hair around the edges...

I'll make the arms pivot - you bring the sledge - and we'll get torley to find the biggest motherf*cking melon s/he can find!

Siggy.

Y'know what? Let's make it into a double primmed pay nothing sim for the Feted Inner Core, just to piss off Prokofy.

Rip it to the floor, there are 300 carbon copy malls all over the place, if i saw something original in any of the malls i'd probally freak out and have a mental break down... and the sad thing is people just keep putting up more malls... and it just spreads the existing customer base further out. Shrug.

This game DOES need zoning very badly though. Residential Sim zone perhaps, disable the ability for anything to be sold there, max lot size of 2048/4096, make streets or something, i dont know. God this game desperately needs zoning of some sort.

*sighs*

Should I start a rant on carbon copy clubs? Nah.

Although there are some decent ones I've wandered into that let originality creep in. Scary stuff that.

Honestly, I don't generally rant at all, I'm just having a shit day, some jackhole stuck his brand new stripmall up by my land. Which is incidently now for sale becuase i have no desire to stare at the backside of a shopping center that is three stories high. Great retail loc in the near future! *rolls eyes*.

We've got a teen grid coming, right?

There's a chance of having a "docking" island between the two, right?

Make Luna the dock.

i had thought of this back in the day but forgotten. it would be pretty cool for the luna sim to be common to both grids and auctioned half and half so that the two worlds can share objects and events under the looming protection of the great linden.

i hereby revise my list.
