Hold the door open for men and ladies alike, strangers or friends. Let someone merge in to traffic ahead of you, or pause to let them out into traffic from a parking lot. Let someone go ahead of you in the grocery store checkout line. Give people "the wave". Smile and sincerely inquire how someones day is going, or wish them a good one. Pick someone, once a day, at work, that you have never spoken to, or at least not often, and make sure and say hello to them the next time you see them.

Speak up and out if you see an injustice. Embaress people being assholes, especially in public, by pointing out that thier behavior is rude/obnoxius or just plain wrong (be careful with this one, psycho's abound).

Anyone else..?

My suggestion:

Treat your [all] children with respect - even when you are angry and don't feel they deserve it. Make sure that they value their own lives - and then they will value the lives of others and respect others. People my age can't do a whole lot to change this generation, but we can have a profound influence on the next.

This is the kind of "evolution" more threads could benifit from. Subject, bitch and moan, solutions and enlightenment.

See how you've begun to establish a more possitive and constructive thread?! Now we could earmark some of these outstanding suggestions and attampt to apply them to ourselves and our dealings with the "damn dirty humans" that we are

Teach your children to act honorably and honestly. Show them by example. This, of course, includes the lesson to not be a bully.

Dolphins are well known to launch unprovoked attacks on porpoises. I imagine they just don't like each other, or see each other as competitors for resources. Lots of species will go out of their way to eliminate their competition.

BTW, I personally doubt that the swimmers were in much danger from the great white. They're curious animals, surprisingly (I always thought sharks were just 'dumb eating machines'), and they also don't normally prey on humans. We're all bony and nasty and probably taste bad. Though I daresay the salt in the water helps the flavour a little bit.

A lot of shark attacks are just the shark taking a 'nibble' to see if what they've found is actually food. Mind... a nibble from something with teeth like that is still a pretty awful experience.
