I'm game. Let me know where and I'm outta here. Just the fact that they announce these changes as being done is like a slap in the face, I don't remember voting on anything.

Damn, and I like you Asha but here goes...... When did LL hire any of you on into Dev. or when did you buy enough LL stock (oh yeah there isn't any) to sit on the board ?

You know they are only doing this cos they thought the forums were boring and going downhill... What is the betting they have about 20 big screens up, each with different forums on, laffing and howling at us

PANICING!?!!?!?! OMGWTF!!?!!?!?ONE!?!?!ELEVEN!?!

Pfft...

ROFLMAO!!! I could see them now, betting on what side the top forum users will take. You know what I think, SL is really down right now. They're doing this to take our minds off of SL being down seeing as how enraged everyone was last time. *Nods* Yep....thats it.....the econmy CAN'T be going to hell...

Hell no I won't go back to greening even if the SL economy does go to hell.

As a relatively new club owner, i think the most irritating aspect is that i just learned the first batch of rules...and adapted. But i do know I'm totally committed to trying to keep our club a shop free zone....even tho i feel this move is pushing me towards that. There is just too much damn shopping in SL. (i can't believe i said that shopper that i am.)

and after smoothing my hackles that were initially raised by all this (ty DM and Killian) I do realize that in the end creativity will reign supreme and we will muddle though. However wouldnt a lil protest be fun? ...and think of the dwell that might generate!!! :

OK, here goes...

In the GOOD OLE DAYS we had events in SL too. Nobody paid for them, there were no dwell bonuses. People built new objects all over the place, people wrote scripts. Some of this stuff was sold, but some of it was given away too.

It works that ay in real life doesn't it? The best parties are given by ordinary people who invite friends to their house and offer drinks, food, and entertainment for free. If you are the sort of person who feels you have to do such things EVERY NIGHT, then you go to a disco and pay for consuming the amenities among total strangers. For people who are so driven, I'm sure there will be a "market" for a high quality experience in SL. As Blake recently said, the key to making money is to do things that do not depend on a false, LL manipulated economy.

I recently found the following in a Slashdot thread on the current crop of online games:

From: someone
How do I know this? My roommates play World of Warcraft. One of them has been playing since the release, and has levelled to the high forties. My other roommate just bought it. What do I hear when they're playing at the same time? "Goddamnit, this is so boring when you guys are all too high level to play with me!" Their screens look the same... usually a perspective of a couple orcs hacking at a large spider-like thing for a while until it dies. It's not a game, it's a screensaver with slightly complicated clicking patterns!

Get off the MMORPG treadmill. Buy some of the incredibly good single-player games that have recently been released, like Half-Life 2, Vampire: Bloodlines, or Rome: Total War if you're a strategy fan. I have a feeling that it's going to be a very looong time before MMO games have even the potential for fun factor and immersion of high-quality PC games.

SL could become like that too. If LL plays too large a role in determining what users should be doing. The philosophy of SL has in fact failed if users don't FOR THEIR OWN REASONS create interesting content.

The less that is artificial about the SL economy the better.

hard to see what the draaaammmmaaa is all about.

ok... you might not get paid for hosting an event. Ya still got dwell.

ok... you might not get as much stipend bonus... ya still got the basic stipend. OK, maybe you can't buy new clothes every day. Is that the horror you are writing about?

This might dent the number of uploads that I can make, but I'll manage. All this fuss because LL is getting ahead of inflation *before* it gets ugly.

HEY MAC!!!! I remember the OLD OLD GOOD OLE DAYS hehee!!!

Yea I tend to think that something like this will encourage more people to create rather than just be consumers. Well one can hope! :p

 :p

There will still be a full calender of the same bullshit events...probably even more. The fact is people don't have events to make money from the LL event sponsorship...they have events to generate dwell.

You are so wrong. I do events at PI and I don't get dwell from it. Yes Fel pays me to do them but I've told her she doesn't have to and I would still do them. I host bingo games. Not gonna put my own L's into the game pots. I do it cuz I enjoy it, and have met some great people doing it.

Never, and I wouldn't given the opportunity. But I do PLAY their game. They make enough changes people don't like they will lose players and if they lose enough players there will be no game to play.

Then if you do it for those reasons and have offered not to be reimbursed, why not just take what you typically earn from your employer generated from dwell, and put it into the "pot". Not an attack on you Asha, but you have the answer to your concerns right there. if you dont require the payment, then it really wouldn't be putting in your own L$. ;)

I fully believe that the only thing that will drive people out is the chaos and commotion being stirred up by very few people who seem to be locked into the viewpoint that you are losing so much. Sure "IF" they made "ENOUGH" changes it could cause mass exodus, but i do believe those making influential decisions @ LL have a much better set of tools to realize the outcome of decisions made, and tests within the economy to *drumroll please" MAKE SL BETTER!

The glass really is half full, you just have to realize your not as thirsty as you think you are.

Not taken as an attack Jay. You're one of few people that have been able to discuss this without lowering yourself by verbally attacking those that have a different viewpoint. Thanks for the idea, that and a few others are running through my head. I've calmed down a lot but I do still oppose pulling support completely. Gonna take me forevet to pay for this tringo kit that I don't know for sure if will even get use now. Change is almost always hard and I never did like it much.

I used to be so proud of what SL had to offer, and it seems little by little is gfetting worse... these economic changes has really done it for me... I am not a happy camper...

Third Life anyone?

What game we moving to next?

I pay to play SL on a monthly basis. I had considered paying in advance (maybe paying the yearly fee) but I reconsidered since I understand that this world is ever-changing and I don't know how I will feel next month (if I feel like being a nomad and selling my land, then there's really no need to pay the monthly fees). I'll wait and see how these changes effect the economy and if it's worth staying in SL. I have been playing other games (online and on consoles) and I have been hooked on those free Ragnarok Online servers. It's not like SL, but it gives me the dose of cuteness entertainment I require daily.

yeah, I'm pissed about interest rates going up while I fail to consolidate my student loans...

oh wait, interest rates are still reasonable, and the economy and market are relatively stable.

Seems like this is a manged economy and LL wants stabilty. Let's see how it goes. I'm sure LL doesnt want to destroy its project.
