Work Off Neg Rateings with SL community service

Hi, my names hellokitty Madison I've never used the forum before so I hope I do ok. Yesterday I like I'm sure many of us minding our own business recieved a negative rateing. I'm not sure how sensetive you all are but I got very sad about the prospect that someone A. doesn't like me , B. I know have to walk around with it like a big ugly badge, C. It's permanent, and I don't even know why or who gave it to me. I'm not even pms for goodness sakes lol. Anyways I propose a community service that be implamented in SL for those of us who want to give back to the community and return our profiles back to positive rateings all around. My freinds I've suggested it to think that its a good idea, or at least its a start to a discussion. What do u think?

I think i's a great idea. I too have aquired a couple. One was given when I was all but a newbie for my building skills. My skills have improved greatly since then, but I will bear that negative mark for ever, and have no way of finding out who gave it to me for retraction. Another idea would be a way to retrieve the name of the person who gave it to you so you could make retribution and request that they change it.

Fix a system that never worked in the first place? Naaawww....only one answer.

I wouldn't worry about neg ratings. No one really cares about them, at least no one I know does. Just wondering if it affects your stipend each week though.. hmmm..

Some people neg rate strangers for no reason other than to pick fights and/or get attention. If the rating came without warning, I bet the person dishing them out was hitting anyone s/he could find, as oppossing to targeting people he didn't like.

Don't worry- if you look into the profiles of some of the most famous and beloved avitars, almost all of them have a some negitive ratings. I don't think players think any less someone because the have a few negitive rates. I figure they've just met lots of people, a few of which were cranks (or jerks, or people careless about checking the pos vs. neg button).

I think that ratings dont matter at all and the whole system should be done away with.

HelloKitty, I think you have a great idea. I've know a few people that have gotten upset over a bogus rating. Working it off somehow would be great. In eBay they have a system to have them removed when bogus, why no here in SL? Good luck with this Kitty.

I think this would be a good idea. Of all the AV's I've met that have 1 or 2 bad ratings, it's always from something bogus.

I was neg rated while afk once and thought it was really unfair as well. There should be away to get rid of bogus ratings if the person who did it had no good reason. Why can't we just all get along?

but i whole heartedly agree the current ratings system is overall a drain on the potential of LL. Some very good people get very hurt with it, and people i know who defend it and their -0, -0, -0 shiny perfect ratings... are VERY quick to change their tunes when they run into their first random neg

how about an SL Prison sim People have to log a full 24 hours in that sim per reduced neg ratings!! Or better yet, An Island where the neg rated can all hang out and never leave. (JOKE)

Hellokitty: It might also be possible that someone tried to pos rate you and hit the wrong button. I met you yesterday at the Tribal Drum event and pos rated you, now I'm all paranoid that I hit the wrong button. I will check on it the next time I see you in world.

Like others have mentioned here, ratings don't mean a whole lot at all. Keep your chin up! Neg ratings are a rite of passage in SL!

I love doing community service, so I'm all for this idea.

Don't forget though, until there's some way to work off those neg ratings, wear your negs as a badge of honour, you ain't anyone if you ain't got negged, that's what my granny always used to tell me anyway....

Working off bad ratings opens up the door to working for good ratings.

I agree your neg rate could have been accidental. There was an incident with me where I earned a few negative ratings from strangers. They did not leave comments, just triple negs. One of them, did leave a comment about how I was a jerk and blah blah blah, but he rated me positively. I got a kick out of that.

I have removed negative ratings that I feel were deserved. I have given positive ratings for no reason at all. I never rate building negatively (well once) and I only rate builds positive when I see them. Someone could read this and disagree with it and neg rate me tonight.

None of it makes any sense really. The ratings should disappear, they cause more people sadness and disappointment than they are worth. Replace it with an optional place to list your friends or people you think are cool.

If a neg rating indicated I had committed a crime against our community, then yeah, the idea of working off a neg rate via community service would make sense. However, the mental image of myself, in a tres gauche orange vest, picking up trash by the side of the road in Luna as people whip by in their WhipTechs, in order to work off a triple-neg given to me for some random reason by a some random assmunch . . . just plain pisses me off.

When I feel like giving to the community, I do. A neg rating from a griefer or due to some personal dispute has nothing to do with it, and should not be made to have anything to do with it.
