Work Off Neg Rateings with SL community service

I know what it is... that has happened to me a few weeks ago, I suddenly noticed I had given a neg rate to someone, when I was positively sure that I hadn't met anyone deserving it. At the time I had no idea to whom, I tried to "track back" the few people I rated on that day, but never found the "victim". I still was feeling bad about it, not because I gave a neg rate (I assume my decisions) but because I knew it was an unjustified one. Then a few days ago, completely by chance, I wanted to give a rating on building abilities... and noticed that I had neg ratedthe builder. Found it! But twice ashamed, as she was the last person I'd given one to, really.

'Course I took it back, and explained and apologized, hehe. But that took time to find out, and when someone mistakingly gives a neg (due to lag, etc), I can very well see that they often don't even know it, thinkg that they gave a pos, or can't remember how it happened, nor to whom. Sure we get the "you got rated positively by X yadda-yadda" stuff, and can thus know who gave it to you, but who really pays attention when you're in Busy/Away mode, or partying, or focused on a build/clothing?...

The entire concept of "working off" neg ratings is only going to incentivize people to play games with them.

As the owner of a triple neg rating given to me by an idiot - I would prefer the idiot to do the community service, quite frankly.

I'm sorry you feel so bad about your negative rating, but as you will see from this thread, more or less everybody has them, and they are nothing to be ashamed of. Not unless they outnumber your positives, anyway!

I wouldn't be in favour of the idea of community service, simply because you shouldn't have to extert yourself in any way to remove a neg that was probably given to you by a griefer.

Until something is done about the rating system some people are going to be upset by receiving negative ratings. It seems crazy to me to continue to tolerate a system that doesn't work, serves no useful function, and upsets people. I do hope the Lindens do something about it soon.

Hey thanks for everyones feedback, I too realize that mabe community service is'nt the best way to handle neg rateings after listening to everyone. Still not knowing exactly what I did or to whom---> you can expect to see me on your shelves before christmas in the new version of girls behaving badly! woot lol, have a awesome Friday There is something wrong with the system.

Hmmmm, I could be mean but ya know after the last few days when I have had newbs say Rate me...I go Rate isnt that an organization for Business owners in SL so what do you mean. Then I go on my merry way.

Sorry if you dont merrit it you dont get it if you get a neg from me you have had to totaly piss in your Wheaties as I don't give Neg Ratings.

But then again thats me I still believe they need to get rid of the Ratings system and move more towards a longevity system where based on if you log in for at least 1hr each day you get a longevity point and that total acumulates to your bonus.

Ie there are 365 days in a year thus 365 hours meaning each hour would be worth a percentage point per day thus if you have been in world for 30 days and logged in each day for at least an hour then you have a 100% rating however missed days are cumlulative.

For instance...your in world 6 months or 182 days. Of those 182 you log in 150 but only 135 of them count for a full hour each. Thus 135/182=74% Meaning you would get 74% of a Bonus cap.

For instance if LL set a Bonus cap per week being 750L$ that means you would be earning weekly 555L$

Doing something like this would #1 totaly Kill the Rating shinanigans. #2 Make it so that your contribution to SL is garnered from your own ethics and not the immorality of others to follow the pied piper and Lastly if you have a bad period of time it can go back up. Let me give another example to follow to further explain.

Using the 135 out of 6monhts say you continue on to 9 months and dont miss a day from there on out. Now 274 days have passed and you still have 225 days as 3 months + 135 = 225 points thus 225/274=82% meaning you would get 615 bonus per week.

yes I see where this can be gamed as well however Alternate accounts could have a flag setting on them Ie if a person uses a credit card to have a primary and 4 alternates the primary would have a flag and the alternates would automatically be flagged as alternates on that credit card that way unless that account tiers for land its considered an social alt and thus higher restrictions are placed on that account for the purpose of gaining Bonus points Ie an alt would have to spend a minimum of 1.5hrs in world daily to gain a daily point. This would take the gameability right out of the system as a person even with two computers would have to spend a minimum of 7hrs a day in second life. With Two computers it would be 4hrs but still yet this was just a theory of mine.

WOW what a well thought out plan shadow! This is what im talking about, there are so many better ways to run the rateing system, thanks for your input. thats awesome. I new someone would have a good idea , by the way does anyone know the next step after the forum to actually try to get someones attension about the issue? or is it something that will remain unresolved that we just talk about in the forum? Just wondering I'm still fairly new, not even hearing about the forum tell my girlfreind suggested it this week , thanks.
