...the existing nasty, hectoring tone that prevailed in this forum long before I came is something I chose to fight back against. And I'm glad I did. I don't have any "seething". I'm just holding up a mirror. There was no need to snap at someone "know nothing" and a lake is in "bloody Canada" was there? So what, that gets to stand? Why? It's like my very first flame, when people were rude and condescending. Old and new players don't get to do that without a challenge from me.

LOL. Every post you've ever written that I've seen (with the exception of the one you started this thread with) amounts to nothing more than self aggrandized finger wagging. I'd never heard of you before. My introduction to you has been a long series of voluminous diatribes complaining about the culture of "fuck you hedonism and the feted inner core" (note to self: that would make a great name for a band). I'm losing count of how many times you've used the phrase. Twenty? Thirty? I've never encountered a caste system in SL, and certainly not a cultural war between account types or between creators and socializers or anything else other than your standard assortment of interpersonal conflicts. Then suddenly here's Prokofy standing up on his soapbox like a demented street preacher, complete with an "end is nigh" sign spouting a fire and brimstone sermon about how horrible and unfair our community is, and anyone who doesn't view the world through your twisted lens must be part of the conspiracy. I've begun to understand that the feted inner core consists of everyone who's happy here who doesn't see things your way. It's odd to hear someone spout with such endless arrogant negativity about the evils of elitism. I can think of very few people in forum history who's ever been so consistently arrogant and so thoroughly unwilling to listen or consider anything anyone else has to say. Nice introduction to the community. You've achieved a kind of immortality now. You've even had a phrase coined after you that will live on long after you start wishing you hadn't said it. You're the perfect example of reaping what you sow.

Oh, and feel free to confuse me for Cristiano any time. It makes me feel feted. I take it as a big compliment :)

Nicely put. I doubt it sinks in though. He will be old and feted one day too. ;)

I don't confuse you with Cristiano, get a grip. The very manner in which you constantly strive for the last word, and constantly attempt to lecture me about the ways of the world illustrates in spades the very points I've been making about a haughty elite who think they run the place. They don't.

You just aren't paying attention to the numerous other threads in "general" like "what about the poor" and "what about the non-creative" and "is this any way to treat customers" and numerous others. They all amount to the same thing: people expressing dismay, angst and even anger that they can't find a place in this world that seems so wonderful, which they thought was for them and had certain features they enjoyed (like event grants or ratings or whatever) and yet contains an elite cadre of players, feted by the game company because it tailors everything to them, who for whatever set of RL or SL reasons, can work the levers of the game or create content or do whatever it is they can do to *lord it over other players*. I'm not the one who invented this, I don't raise it as some kind of "class warfare" or "venorm" or "arrogant negativity" or anything of the sort. That's just your spin on it. *I merely describe it* so that these older, arrogant players who have been so hectoring and so condescending on these forums especially would stop, take a look at themselves, and realize the people they are pissing on *are their customers*. (Or not, actually, given the way you've been behaving.) That's all. I'm not interested in trying to fight my way into some "community" that is some smug, insular circle of people who think they set the tone, mandate the behavior, and tell newcomers what to do. No fucking way. There are many different "communities" in this game -- it's not just "the community" where you reign supreme.

Indeed. Because you can't see how this is exactly how YOU ALL sound, so that anyone who points it out to you is going to appear to you as a huge annoyance and hugely arrogant. But I'm not arrogant. I have no pretentions of being any big deal in this game. I just do my thing, try my hand at business, hang out with a few friends, and observe what goes on.

And far from wishing that I had not thought up these phrases some day, I think even people who are annoyed right now will thank me some day for taking on the hideous culture of assholery on these forums. It's an outrage in a game that YOU claim is about "community" and "tolerance" and wikis and all the rest. The feted elite aren't the "happy who don't see it my way" they are people who feel threatened by anyone who comes along and challenges them with any other kind of view of themselves and of the game. They've shown that they are willing to fight tooth and nail to protect the status quo, their privileged position within it, and their perch as know-it-alls.

Pay attention to what a lot of the other people are saying on these forums who don't use the hyperbole that I do, and you'll see this isn't something about me personally.

Did it occur to you that Charlotte's behavior is simply because Charlotte is who she is, not from mimicking any group? Why do you have to blame everything on everyone else, instead of just dealing with the individual... Charlotte is behaving in a typical forum manner that has nothing to do with anyone but Charlotte. Thanks for the heads up though, we shall send her an invite to the inner sanctum.

See, you just proved your own point there. She is behaving in a "typical forum manner". It's a tone of nastiness and superiority set by the older, feted elite. Yes, indeed it is. And I'm here to tell you: it shall not pass. Newer people come along and pick up that tone and think its perfectly fine to waltz into the forum and take up that hectoring, condescending and arrogant tone. Well, guess what: not.

From: someone
BTW, the slur about skin making was aimed at Chip, not me.

I am quite aware that Chip Midnight is the skin maker and that you, Cristiano are not that person. In answering posts on the forum I might have mistaken either of your posts because you have the same last name but I quite understand you're different. And there isn't any "slur" there about any activity of Chip's, except in your fevored imagination. I merely said he should go back to doing what he does and making money instead of harassing people like me in the forums.

From: someone
Chip has been one of the most successful creators in SL, and you slamming him for being talented and successful only makes you look petty and jealous, honestly.

Oh, spare me. It's just spiffy that Chip is one of the most successful creators in SL. But that doesn't mean he gets to be arrogant and condescending on forums, or that I can't debate him if I disagree with him. I don't have to genuflect just because he is the most talented and successful. And that's just my point about the inner feted elite, that you expect me to genuflect and bow down to these types of superior content barons merely because they are big wheels in the game, and take a humble and subservient attitude toward them on the forums. Why? Their points are debatable, and their responses are arrogant. Why shouldn't they be challenged? The beauty of one's product doesn't exempt one from being challenged in a debate on the forum. And I'm hardly jealous of somebody who makes photorealistic skins because frankly, not only do I never care to make them myself, I never care to buy them, and they belong to a game culture I'm just not interested in and isn't to my taste-- as hard as YOU may find to believe that.

From: someone
Just because no one has a clue what you do, who you are, or gives a rat ass about your projects or your crusade to beautify SL is not the fault of those who have come before you, or who will come after you. The fault lies squarely in your lap - you rise or fail on your own actions, and no amount of blaming any other group will change that.

Geez, rant long enough and you start to believe your own rant. I don't demand that anybody give a rat's ass about my projects or my "crusade" to end the sense of helplessness in the face of ugly builds and obnoxious behavior. I don't feel I require any inner feted elite to make my way in the game, I don't have to genuflect and get in good with them, and I certainly don't blame them for any rise or fall I have in the game by THEIR lights. I ignore them.

Thanks for posting some pics of the new sims, Prokofy; I rarely seem able to get out to see new sims before they are auctioned and filled up with stuff. It is fun to visit places before the FPS has a chance to be pegged. ;)

Your comments about the Lake sims resembling RL lakes is interesting. I bet if you were to ask one of the Lindens like Eric, Ryan, Ben or Dan, they could tell you. I'd be curious to know how the Lindens decide what sort of land masses and shapes to include in new sims, too.

Of course, I've also been wondering if the Lindens will ever build sims that have more fantasy-themed types of features. In There, they had the one area (equivalent to a SL sim) with a perpetual rosy tint to the atmosphere that had all these floating, ovoid-ish islands which I always thought was surreal and beautiful. I suppose users could create a similar sort of effect, if they wanted. But I wonder if the Lindens ever have the urge to come up with some sims that don't resemble traditionally textured and shaped earth real estate.

Yes I proved my point, not yours. You attribute her behavior to other people - you still can't just acknowledge that perhaps she's just a jerk, and would be from day 1 or day 5000 in an environment. When I said it is typical forum behavior, you always have someone who comes along and plays the troll. It is just interesting seeing one troll bash another, it's very World of Warcraft-esque.

People like you - actually, it's just you - and it is not harassment, it is the same pushing back against lame behavior that you claim to be doing. You come into a community of players and immediately start with conspiracy theories, class warfare, and poisonous statements that have no basis in fact. You malign older players, you malign players who create things, you malign LL. If all the stuff you rant about were actually occuring, you would have people rallying with you. I know you like to fancy yourself some enlightened freedom fighter trying to raise people above the oppression of the tyrants. Again, you seem a bit more suited for some type of RPG, as the drama exists only in your mind.

What is your justification for being arrogant and condescending in the forums? I don't expect you to bow down to anyone, nor does anyone else. You are the person constantly maligning a group of players (and blurring the lines, since content creators cover the entire spectrum of players old and new) for being successful, when the same group has no problem with what you do or don't do, and is not standing in the way of that in the slightest. That's what it all comes down to, Prokofy. You have a fixation on people that could honestly care less about anything except enjoying SL, which we have done by making it whatever we indiviudally want it to be for ourselves, a power which every single person in SL has. You try to create imaginary theories of collusion, corruption and conspiracy to assuage your feelings of inadequacy, yet you have never once shown them to actually exist. Stop speaking of a group and actually deal with the individual. Continuing to malign a group of people for any reason just makes you a petty, ignorant bigot.

Yep, refer to my earlier statement about the Bush campaign in regards to you. I sincerely believe at this point you believe all the bullshit you have posted ad nauseum in thread after thread. That is the danger of making stuff up - ultimately you forget what is and is not real. I honestly hope you find whatever fulfillment it is that you are looking for in SL. No one is standing in the way of that but you, Prokofy. The sooner you realize that and stop blaming other people for all of your woes, the better off you will be.

I'm the one who makes skins, so yes you did indeed confuse me with Cris. I don't know of anyone who thinks they own the place. I simply see people who strongly disagree with your assertions speaking up to refute them. People tend to debate ideas here. It's called a forum. Perhaps you've participated in one before? If someone disagrees with you that's not elitism, it's simply someone taking issue with your assertions. You can't expect to constantly express such a strong point of view without having other strong points of view expressed back. Such is life.

lol. Are you trying to be ironic?

You seem to have problems deciphering causal relationships. The people who are successful in SL got that way because they adapated themselves to the SL world and worked hard, not because LL tailored the world to them.

From: someone
...who for whatever set of RL or SL reasons, can work the levers of the game or create content or do whatever it is they can do to *lord it over other players*.

To repeat, the people who can work the levers of the game gained that ability by tailoring themselves to the world rather than expecting the world to tailor itself to them.

When I speak of the community, I mean the entirety of the community, not some elite group. You're just projecting your own feelings of inadequacy into the language and inferring meanings that aren't there. I don't tell newcomers what to do. I'm very much a live and let live kind of person, and the assertion is humorous coming from someone who neg rates people because their builds don't meet his subjective standards. Is that a piece of lumber in your eye?

You left out the part where you make false assumptions and then lecture everyone. You get back what you give. If you spew negativity you're likely to have some returned to you.

But it's not in the Lake District! Those are the Great Lakes!

I know that its not part of the Lake District in the UK Charlotte, I'm Canadian. I know exactly where Lake Louise is, and it's not part of the Great lakes at all. But there happens to be a sim called Louise with water in it. There's also Ontario, Abitibi, all parts of Canada.

It's not your community any more. You don't run it. You can't lecture on behalf of it. There are numerous communities in the making, and the group you claim to speak on behalf of, which has enjoyed celebrity status, is only one group.

I don't "malign" older players or malign anybody, and don't confuse a robust response to YOU with class warfare, and try to rally your putative troops on that basis. When a small handful of older players -- I would say six or less -- on these forums responded to my posts with arrogant, hectoring, condescending replies, speaking on behalf of a putative "community" or a "tight-knit" group or however they called it, I challenged them. That doesn't make me a "freedom fighter" is just makes me someone who challenges the self-appointed lords and ladies of the forums who think they run the game.

I don't speak on behalf of any group myself, but I do point out that the points I've been making aren't mine alone, and have been made in numerous ways all thoughout the "General" and "Land Economy" forums. If you don't see it, I could take some time later to cut and paste all the things that have been said by players who encounter just this same issue as me or anyone else new or relatively new in the game: a cadre of people who believe they serve as gatekeepers to social approval who believe they can dispense favors and approval and all manner of benefits. But nobody needs them to do that and if anything, their belief that they can "instruct" others in this fashion is a hindrance to themselves and others in the game.

The zealousness, indignation, and energy that this same handful of players have brought to replying in detail to my posts illustrates just how hard they are clinging to their privileged perch and frankly, I see that as a symptom that they are scared of change.

Chip, you just don't see it. You believe yourself to be in a community, something you call OUR community, something you think you run, something you think you are in a position to tell someone that they are automatically a member of it, such as to say that includes YOU, and such as to say that you can say "join it instead of railing against it" -- there you go again with your hectoring, patronizing advice.

Chip, it's like saying "This is our Internet. That includes YOU. Try JOINING our Internet instead of railing against it."

What is needed is a complete paradigm shift, a complete shift of perception.

You are not in a "community" any more, except the one you define and get others to join, but the entire space of SL is not "THE COMMUNITY" and certainly not "OUR" or "YOUR" community and certainly not something you can speak on behalf of, delivering advice to people you find "out of line".

It's just a space. In that space there will be many communities, some intersecting and interacting, others never having anything to do with each other. You're still living in a small town of 5,000 people, many of who were in the beta-test-love-fest phase, many of whom are older, many of whom are "content barons". Small towns are terribly stifling. Tiny provincial minds are terribly crippling and lacerating. Nobody should have to stay in that kind of hell.

The game is already 20,000 people and has aspirations to be a million. You don't make a "community" out of a million people all over the planet unless you are some sappy utopian where everybody's supposed to stretch hands across the sea and sign "Kumbayah." But that kind of sappy stuff just covers up genuine differences that are OK to be preserved and don't have to be artificially combined.

I'm sorry to break this to you, but it's a fact. There are many, many communities already in existence, and many more to come. Perhaps for the sake of convenience, you can refer to all LL subscribers as a "community" in a straightforward, generic sense without any sentimentalism, in the way that some players get sentimental about OUR COMMUNITY and what somebody is purportedly doing to destroy OUR COMMUNITY.

But you don't refer to all Verizon subscribers as "a community" -- they are just customers. And we're all just customers. And LL isn't Town Father but just a company with metaverse server space.

You perceive yourself to be in something "special" that is a "community" that has town fathers and mothers, city councils, cultural norms, and norms of behaviour. But I don't see it that way. I see SL as already having wildly different communities of taste, genre, motivation, psychology, class, whatever. Those who keep talking about a unified community and blaming others who point out it isn't that way anymore, believing them to be "wreckers and splitters" are going to be overtaken by events. Hell, they are ALREADY overtaken by events and I'm merely a minor symptom of that.

Whatever your perceptions of THE COMMUNITY, one thing is certain: you are not the gate keeper of it. The freedom of SL is such that anyone can make something else and fly right around you.

You are not in a "community" any more, except the one you define and get others to join, but the entire space of SL is not "THE COMMUNITY" and certainly not "OUR" or "YOUR" community and certainly not something you can speak on behalf of, delivering advice to people you find "out of line".

So, its ok for you to do though?

From: Prokofy Neva
It's just a space. In that space there will be many communities, some intersecting and interacting, others never having anything to do with each other. You're still living in a small town of 5,000 people, many of who were in the beta-test-love-fest phase, many of whom are older, many of whom are "content barons". Small towns are terribly stifling. Tiny provincial minds are terribly crippling and lacerating. Nobody should have to stay in that kind of hell.".

I agree with this one...you are the tiny mind.

From: Prokofy Neva
The game is already 20,000 people and has aspirations to be a million. You don't make a "community" out of a million people all over the planet unless you are some sappy utopian where everybody's supposed to stretch hands across the sea and sign "Kumbayah." But that kind of sappy stuff just covers up genuine differences that are OK to be preserved and don't have to be artificially combined.

Thats the stupidest thing you've said yet. It makes no sense.

From: Prokofy Neva
You perceive yourself to be in something "special" that is a "community" that has town fathers and mothers, city councils, cultural norms, and norms of behaviour. But I don't see it that way. I see SL as already having wildly different communities of taste, genre, motivation, psychology, class, whatever. Those who keep talking about a unified community and blaming others who point out it isn't that way anymore, believing them to be "wreckers and splitters" are going to be overtaken by events. Hell, they are ALREADY overtaken by events and I'm merely a minor symptom of that..

Thats a pathetic statement. Thats just your half-baked response to critisism. Excusing yourself for doing exactly the same thing.

Nobody is listening to you Prokofy. You are the worst person on earth to be talking about community. Your seemingly insular attitute of "do as I say, not as do" does not fool anyone but yourself. You have become the "laughing stock" SL world, but I dont expect you to know that either.

Someone quoted in your harrassment thread " Prokofy is an asshat, and being an asshat makes him incapable of knowing he is an asshat"

I couldn't agree more.

I know that its not part of the Lake District in the UK Charlotte, I'm Canadian. I know exactly where Lake Louise is, and it's not part of the Great lakes at all. But there happens to be a sim called Louise with water in it. There's also Ontario, Abitibi, all parts of Canada.

Hehe, those bums in California also have an 'Ontario', but it's not as nice or as big as ours. :D

Weedy,

Why do you feel it is your God-given mission to set me straight?

I'm not trying to build a community, you are trying to cling to one that you feel you have built. Well go ahead. I'm just pointing out that other people have come in your game.

I'm not the laughinstock you imagine. That hasn't been my experience in the feedback I have gotten from a variety of people in the game. It's odd that you feel this hellbent urge to prove me wrong and prove I'm a laughingstock. What do you think you're going to get me to do? Delete my account? Of course not. I have a year-long subscription and your intimidation, scolding and outright threats will not make me go anywhere. You're going to have to live with that.

There's no "do as I say not what I do" coming from me, it's coming from you. You want to boss people, set them straight, tell them what's what, and then pat yourself on the back and get *hugz* from all your gal pals. You keep chanting like a child "nobody is listening to you" like you're trying to say "you're rubber, I'm glue, whatever you say bounces of me and sticks to you" on the playground.

If nobody is listening, then why are they answering posts, like you are? Most people remain supremely indifferent to this forum and its Harpies.

You are a hypocrite Prokofy, the BIGGEST one I've ever seen. Grow up.

Your bad attitude gets you into trouble every time you post. It's laughable.

You have this sick fixation that your last word is gospel.

You are wholly anti-social, a punk and incapable of any reasonable understanding.

Yeah let's go Cross, in crystal-clear blue waters... I hope for a day when we'll have accurate liquid modelling in SL, and more splashies and waves. I have Ripple Water turned off as I don't find it to be terribly effective for me (and it also has the weird effect of blotting out the distant 'scapes?)... ahhh...

Thanks for posting some pics of the new sims, Prokofy; I rarely seem able to get out to see new sims before they are auctioned and filled up with stuff. It is fun to visit places before the FPS has a chance to be pegged. ;) ....etc.

In the context of this really big, really meaningless, really multi-threaded argument going on here, Beryl, I really enjoyed your post. Whether or not it was intended that way, your kind attitude and sincere gratitude really, really destroyed both sides. It was like watching a "subtle" nuclear weapon go off and I am in awe. Thank you. Sincerely!

(laughing like all hell) :D

Heres is a picture for laughability.

I put the lettering on the lower back, because like Prokofy, its the closest thing to an asshole.

The shirts are free to copy at my shop in Dacia, 34, 219.

Everyone is welcomed to join the group "Feted Inner Core" that seems to get a few laughs. :D :) ;) :D :D
