I've been having a great time flying around the new lake sims.
For one, the FPS is to die for. Imagine, 12,000 FPS in Moraine, for example! Like a knife cutting through butter! You have a glimpse of how this game was meant to be...
They're so unspoiled as yet, save for a few ambitious big ugly spinning thangs, but hey, what's a picnic without ants.
What's funny to me about all these lakes is that I know them all like the back of my hand in RL. I grew up or went to school and visited relatives near all of them. So what's funny to me is to fly over them and look down and see that they have seemingly some references to their RL counterparts...but actually don't look like them...I wonder if anybody else who knows these RL lakes has this impression.
So I'm wondering if the Content Lindens actually looked at the RL maps and tried to make these SL lakes with names like Keuka or places like Owasco look anything like RL? In RL, the Finger Lakes (Keuka and Cayuga are some of them) look like God put His hand down on the map and the fingers make the lakes. If you look at the SL Keuka, for example, it does have that long skinny "finger"-like part which might be roughly like the Penn Yan, NY end of Keuka but it doesn't seem to have the upper part of the "Y" (unless they aren't finished yet -- I think the sim cuts off about there). It looks like it has the hill where Hammondsport is but who know, were they really thinking of Hammondsport when they built that sim?
Then I look at Lake Louise...and I don't know if this is Lake Louise of the Mind or like somebody's RL Lake Louise...but it has some definitely Lake Louise ingredients LOL.
I almost expect to see Lake Superior with choppier water -- it was always too cold to swim in -- but I haven't gone underwater there to see if it is rockier LOL.

Evidently you don't know what you're talking about.
The Lake District stretches from Carlisle in the north to Kendal in the south, and includes Windermere, Ambleside, Coniston, Helvellyn and many other beautiful places.
It's not in bloody Canada.

My parents were recently at Lake Louise (Canada) . The water in the lake is azur... something about the mineral content in the water. It's stunning.

Hell, I've been saying that since I was a wee lad, and I'm from the States.

You know I'd always thought it was! Whenever I've used it in front of US friends, they've always found it hilarious and "so British", so I just presumed it was a British saying. If it's not, then I have to retract my statement. Alby could well be Charlotte's alt still then

The Lake District stretches from Carlisle in the north to Kendal in the south, and includes Windermere, Ambleside, Coniston, Helvellyn and many other beautiful places.
It's not in bloody Canada. Well, that was a little test to see what happens if you post a nice, cheerful neutral post about some nice game feature on the forum, what kind of response you get. And sure enough, even on a nice, neutral topic people are prepared to be vicious and nasty, to use sarcasm and be condescending, and to slam anybody indiscrimately to prove they know it all. The steel jaws of the forum crunchers always stand poised to pounce. I used the term "Lake District" as a catch-all term to describe this whole area of new sims that are all lakes. Come up with a better term if you like. Windemere is actually not so new as these newer lakes but all of them could be called in SL "The Lake District" if we can pry the term loose from the Brits who feel proprietary about it. It is not due to my alleged "ignorance" of the term "lake district" being something that Brits feel proprietary about, to the extent that they will witheringly tell Americans that it "isn't in bloody Canada". Duh. We're quite aware that there is a UK "Lake District". But the lakes I discussed in my post are called Keuka, Cayuga, etc. I noted that I grew up near them. They ARE in the United States, in New York State, and this area is usually called "The Finger Lakes Region" and sometimes -- not so often -- loosely called the lake district with lower-case letters. Everybody, even Americans, understands that these lakes are not the famed British Lake District -- but then, other people, including Americans and Canadians, get to have lakes, too! And yes, there are Great Lakes here, too, like Superior and Huron and so on, and Canadian names like Winnipeg and Louise (there are small Lake Louises in the US too). But Keuka is a New York State lake, not in England or Canada, and not a Great Lake but a Finger Lake. All I wanted to know was whether anybody thought these areas looked like their RL counterparts, and whether the Lindens tried to make them like that. That's it. It wasn't an occasion to be hectored by the inner feted elite.

See, you can't ever resist, even when it doesn't even remotely apply. Can you give it a rest for one fucking thread? Charlotte has been here for 2 months. That is hardly the inner feted elite. I agree that it was lame to jump all over the naming convention used, but since you slur the hell out of players who aren't Prokofy every chance you get, I feel no sympathy for you.

Could you get a sense of humour, Cristiano? You've become obsessed with me, even naming a thread after me LOL. Don't you have skins to make or money to cash out on GOM? I don't slur players who aren't me, I expose hectoring attitudes when I see them, I don't take forum bullies lying down. I don't care if someone has been here all of 2 months. They see the climate of hectoring and bullying and the tone set here by the aging feted elite, and they join it in a heartbeat. Anyone who adopts that hectoring know-it-all let-me-set-you-straight tone is behaving as if they are an inner feted elite, their age is not at issue, and even their actual elite status is not at issue. I guess you've never "gotten it" that the way to deal with hectoring bullies is to use exaggeration, satire, irony, and other literary devices to counter them. I think it has proven effective.

I don't think it has proven effective at all, given that you take whatever interesting points you have and wrap it up in so much hypocritical, hyperbolic bullshit that it just makes you seem foolish. I actually like you in an odd way though. Did it occur to you that Charlotte's behavior is simply because Charlotte is who she is, not from mimicking any group? Why do you have to blame everything on everyone else, instead of just dealing with the individual. For example, you dislike Ulrika's policies, deal with Ulrika - don't paint everyone with the same broad brush. The only person who seems to get you is you (though at times you even contradict yourself in your own threads, which entertains me to no end), and on occasion, the equally trollish but not nearly as colorful Korg. Charlotte is behaving in a typical forum manner that has nothing to do with anyone but Charlotte. Thanks for the heads up though, we shall send her an invite to the inner sanctum. BTW, the slur about skin making was aimed at Chip, not me. Chip has been one of the most successful creators in SL, and you slamming him for being talented and successful only makes you look petty and jealous, honestly. Just because no one has a clue what you do, who you are, or gives a rat ass about your projects or your crusade to beautify SL is not the fault of those who have come before you, or who will come after you. The fault lies squarely in your lap - you rise or fail on your own actions, and no amount of blaming any other group will change that. Naming a thread after you was a sincere thank you to you. You have given us a phrase that you thought was some scathing indictment of a group that you seem to have so much envy of that it borders on harassment. Instead we all laughed and named ourselves variations on your original theme. BTW, I don't use GOM - not the biggest fan of their site. Even if I did sell through them, there is no shame in that for any player who has worked hard to build a business. SL is hardly a source of wealth extraction for me - thanks for trying to slam me though, your attempts are cute. PS - I love how you introduce a new 50 cent word every now and then. It seems that Word of the Day calendar was a wise investment.

Pot calls kettle black. This little conspiracy theory of yours is ridiculous, hence the ridicule. It's slanderous and derogatory and you spout it off to pacify your own seething. Poorest example of community I have seen since I started 6 months ago. You just don't know when to quit do you?

It's slanderous and derogatory and you spout it off to pacify your own seething. Poorest example of community I have seen since I started 6 months ago. You just don't know when to quit do you? There's no conspiracy here, Weedy. And you don't know when to quit, either. And the existing nasty, hectoring tone that prevailed in this forum long before I came is something I chose to fight back against. And I'm glad I did. I don't have any "seething". I'm just holding up a mirror. There was no need to snap at someone "know nothing" and a lake is in "bloody Canada" was there? So what, that gets to stand? Why? It's like my very first flame, when people were rude and condescending. Old and new players don't get to do that without a challenge from me.

Let me get this right. Someone says "bloody Canada", while not implying anything is wrong with Canada. You get to jump all over them by using slanderous and demeaning language.
You hypocracy is astounding.
