MOMMY... THE OTHER KID DID IT SO IT MUST BE OK FOR ME... RIGHT? Is that REALLY the stance you want to take Neehai? I do not agree that Democrats are acting that way. So no, it is not okay for us to do it just because Republicans did it. Instead Republicans are pulling shit like trying to completely remove the option to filibuster because they are upset over judicial nominees. They call it the "nuclear option." They do this in SPIT OF THE FACT that George Bush had more judicial nominees confirmed than Clinton, Bush Sr., and Reagan. Republicans whine and cry so much when they don't get EVERYTHING they want that they threaten to change hundred years rules in the Senate as a threat. If that's cooperation, then cooperation can kiss my liberal ass! _____________________

Democrats are a bunch of elitist who believe their world view is the best and anybody who sees it differently must be dumb, stupid, etc... And I hope they keep up that mentality, because it'll keep them too far away from the Common People and thus keeping them out of power. Bush: 62,040,606 Million People - 51% Kerry: 59,028,109 Million People - 48% 62/million people can't be wrong... How U Like Dem Apples? ![]() A Sea of Red with patches of Blue Come on Alby. 62 million people can't be wrong? But 59 million can? Thats like a 3 million difference. You are a numbers guy. That doesn't make any sense. _____________________

I don't think comment, such as mine, were attempting to justify bad behavior. In my case, it was more of a reaction to the thread title, "Republicans lie again to gain sympathy." It was kind of an ad hominem, don't you think? Yes. I was reacting to the generalization of "Republicans are like this"--which is utter f***ing bull. And I'll repeat the same when someone says "Democrats are like this". I wasn't saying it's okay because everyone is immoral. Now, if it said "Horowitz lies"--that's cool. (assuming true) As for the story itself (I actually just read it now), it sounds like some Republicans/conservatives (whatever term you want) going overboard and sabatoging themselves in the process. When Rush Limblow cries that the media is liberal, he goes off the deep end (he's at the point where he sees it everywhere...heh), but I've seen the polls of "what journalists consider themselves" and it's lopsided towards the left for sure. My personal experience in college did NOT include conservative hawkish professors talking about how we should do X conservative thing--quite the opposite really. A good poll question would be to ask people, that went to college, what the ratio of liberal-seeming to conservative-seeming professors was. Do we honestly believe it's going to lean right-wing? (If we can avoid getting into the "well it's a matter of political perspective debate".) So Horowitz may be an asshole (assuming he is making things up or intentionally misleading people), but I have reason to believe academia does indeed lean to the left, although perhaps not as much as some on the right would have you believe. Has anyone had a differing experience? _____________________

So Horowitz may be an asshole (assuming he is making things up or intentionally misleading people), but I have reason to believe academia does indeed lean to the left, although perhaps not as much as some on the right would have you believe. Has anyone had a differing experience? Insofar as rejecting dogma, questioning authority, and expecting truthfulness in response are "liberal" virtues, to that extent does the best of America's higher education system lean left. In the same vein, since liberals champion freedom of the press as an important foundation of civil society, many individual journalists (though not necessarily editors, producers, or owners of media empires) may feel more comfortable in the company of the left. |

Here's a Radical Idea we develop a DNA test that checks to see if anyone has the inklings to become a Politician and we erradicate them and start fresh.
Problem is then we wont have any politicians and the prices of houses will be super cheap. Hell then we could even move a disparraging third world country in as we would have plenty of space. But then some rich asshole would claim it was thier Idea and we'd have to go through the whole process of eleminating Politicians again. Oh well, Carry on I was just momentarly hijacking for the sake of infusion. Shadow _____________________

Wow... what heated discussion. At least no one is getting arrested.
Seems to me as an outsider watching American media now and again to keep abreast of things, that there is a great leaning to the republican neo-con right. Where a reputed "#1 Newscaster" is essentially the quintessential Jerry Springer guest.. and a republican. I believe the whole American system of democracy relied on "checks and balances." One of the ways that balance was to be maintained was the freedom of the press which allowed for dissent. However it is slowly becoming very difficult to maintain that system. People with opinions contrary to the popular republican political agenda are told to, "shut up," on a national news program. Even public displays of dissent are becoming more and more of a gray area. Protestors being arrested or forcibly removed. Even livejournal users getting visits from FBI investigations units... Now it isn't all hell yet I don't think, and I can never be entirely sure as I don't LIVE there day to day... but what if the republican administration locked down America and removed all the checks and balances? What if it became officially illegal to publicly post dissenting opinions? Would America be considered a new police-state? Would it be fair to call America a fascist country instead of a democratic one? The problem I see with this article is that even academia is now being pulled into this political firestorm... which is a horribly bad idea. Horribly. Academia in it's ideal form should be a place free of political leanings and accusations of bias -- a place of free thinking. Wether a person of any political affilliation lied or not pales in comparison to the fact that professors are now labelled with political labels in my mind. There should be no "liberal" professors nor "conservative" ones. There should be no accusations of bias and we should look to academia for answers and truth -- not bring them into a bitter debate. Their ideas don't have to agree with conservative ideals to be right or truthful.. those ideas should be free of political alignment. .. anyhow ... if America wants this to end and things to get back to being peaceful, it has to stop fighting with itself and dragging every institution to a side. This has happened before (ie: McCarthyism).. and the results were disastrous. America only barely survived. _____________________

This has happened before (ie: McCarthyism).. and the results were disastrous. America only barely survived. McCarthyism, now thats a topic of discussion. Especially considering McCarthy's 10,000 are now dwindled down to the leadership that now controls the Military. Those of you that don't know what McCarthy's 10,000 is, its the 10,000 sub intelegent individuals that the military typicaly would reject in the past. They were brought in to help fight the war in Vietnam. Unfortunately those that survived and stayed in the military are now some of the most prominent officials in the military soely based on thier "time in service" hense some of the stupid regulations that now litter the militarys current judicial and command structure. While I realize these are only a personal limited experience and I weigh it accordingly: I had a professor in college that was an admitted registered Democrat who basically, although not literally, seemed to be urging students to support the party. Another did a good job of keeping hidden his own personal opinions, IMO I think he leaned left, but at least otherwise wasn't so bad. I've just never seen a college teacher be otherwise, personally.
Acknowledging that this doesn't prove media bias (--for me to say this would be doing the very generalizing I complained of earlier in this thread), I happened to run into a specific example today...Dan Rather: http://www.mediaresearch.org/notablequotables/2005/nq20050228.asp The video where President (at the time) HWB yells at him is pretty funny. I'm impressed he kept his cool for the most part. But Rather's words quoted there are not the words of an unbiased news reporter.Sure maybe it's a rather alarmist right leaning website, but you can't fake videos, and it's hard to believe they're pulling all these text quotes out of their asses. _____________________
