What a great name for a store....
The Feted Millinery Quick, someone use it up before some W-hat member creates an attraction so named; being hat-related and all. |

How many of you actually know what antidisestablishmentarianism (and no, I didn't have to look it up to spell it
) means?_____________________

This thread is far more suited for the Off-topic forum than the General forum. Thanks.

What is the most (or least) used word in the English language? Where does your favorite word fall in frequency of usage?

Who knows what's the longest name of a capitol city in the world? Without doing websearches to find out? Off the top of my head, given that a friend of mine from Thailand named Pard actually had a name that was about 40 letters long, I would say it is probably Bangkok's full name. _____________________

Dingdingding!
Good guess, Cris "Krungthepmahanakhon Amonratanakosin Mahintharayutthaya Mahadilok Phopnopparat Ratchathaniburirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amonphiman Awatansathit Sakkathuttiya Witsanukamprasit. Rather loosely translated, this becomes The City of Gods, the Great City, the Residence of the Emerald Buddha Capital of the World Endowed with Nine Precious gems, the Happy City Abounding in Enormous Royal Palaces Which Resemble the Heavenly Abode Wherein Dwell the Reincarnated Gods, A City Given by Indr and Built by Witsanukam." Krungthep for short if you're Thai, Bangkok if you're not Smart cookie, you are. ![]() |

Heh, I dunno if I told you Cris, but I'm part-Thai, and my full name is over 100 letters long. Roughly translated it means "Torley, cheerfully optimistic time travelling techno music making neon watermelon wearing catbot" |

Thai names are worse than Indian names.
The cool thing is that so many of them have "porn" in them. ![]() |

*blushes* Awww guys!!! That's so sweet..
Thai names are worse than Indian names. The cool thing is that so many of them have "porn" in them. ![]() HAHAHA yes. Thai is, in some ways, a cross between Chinese and East Indian. So you have short, 3- or 4-letter nicknames like Geng or Kuh, but really long full names. Part of my Mom's name is pronounced "PORN PEN". Well actually, that's not quite correct, because the "porn" in Thai is actually more like "ph'orn" with a subtle nuance that is difficult to enunciate without the aid of additional diacritical marks. Same with words like PHUKET Yeah... how would you pronounce that? ![]() *grins* _____________________

PHUKET Yeah... how would you pronounce that? I believe Thai has three-way contrastive voicing, so the ph probably stands for aspirated p, not f. So it's probably pronounced a bit like a native speaker of English would pronounce "pooket" if he or she put stress on the first syllable to avoid aspirating the k. (Grrr, stupid vBulletin doesn't support Unicode IPA.) Of course, I could also just look it up but then it's not posting to SL Forums if you've failed to include at least some conjecture. What a great name for a store.... The Feted Millinery Quick, someone use it up before some W-hat member creates an attraction so named; being hat-related and all. what |
