I have a serious question so please don’t flame me personally, as I would like both positive and negative responses. Yet, I would like them on the topic of the following subject.
Jade Wolf went out on a limb 1 year ago with a business venture to allow members of SL access to Licensed Second Life Apparel.
This involved negotiating a TradeMark License agreement with Linden Lab and coordinating a subsequent source to provide the apparel.
At the time many heated debates were fueled over this and since then many of the dissenter’s have either retired to a life of quiet Luxury at the hands of other members of SL’s Spending or just quit SL entirely.
Either way today I am asking the simple question as follows.
Are People interested in Real world Apparel (Clothes/T-shirts/hoodies/thongs/boxers) that bears the Second Life Logo?
Additionally are people interested in Real World Apparel that bears the Second Life logo with a Custom Picture of their Avatar or Build?
I’m curious to know this as the 1year anniversary of the site is coming up next month.
If the poll does not have the answer you would prefer please annotate in a follow on post and please check “Other”
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely, Shadow Weaver

For me it really depends on the clothing. I avoid most clothing that is simply marked with corproate logos including Second Life. On the other hand I would consider clever clothing and in-jokes about SL. Sweatshirts that says "Second Life University", "Feted Inner Core and Proud", etc etc.

Aimee those are the types I mean by "Customised" basically meaning if its something catchy that you think people would like then I can put it on the Tshirt or whatever clothing article chosen from the List of Articles.
So should I consider this response as a "other" with the leanings towards a "Yes with Customised" ?

I should have read thru the posts before voting. I'm on the same page an Aimee....I'd definately be interested in SL aparrel - but a plain white t-shirt with a corporate logo might not be so great. A hoody or a hat with something witty in regards to SL? Sure.... where do I order? Sounds like a great idea, Shadow!

As a subsequent note would people be interested in the same apparel if it were offered in Lindens in world.
The only drawback is to purchase with lindens one would have to divulge mailing information in order to have the item shipped to them through a secure transaction.
Just being up front with the information as I have learned that is the only way to be.
Sincerely, Shadow Weaver

I wouldn't like wearing a crass, blatant ad for SL (or anything else). However, I wouldn't mind something more subtle, with slogans or smallish icons that other players would recognize,

TBH, i wouldn't wear a t-shirt just with the sl hand on it... it would be too boring PLUS i always associate apparel like logo shirts of games or pop/rock bands as being a bit tacky, although if i had the choice to make a fancy custom pic for the t-shirt, i MIGHT wear it to bed at night or whilst painting the porch Please don't use one of those things were u send a picture to a company and they send u back a load of 1 size fits all t-shirts with the logo on it... they r so sleezy. If it could be made like the way 'hello kitty' or other cult things like that are marketted with unique designs and things on many things, not just t-shirts. I ENDORSE the byuing of these items via SL with L$... that is the sort of thing i thinkPhilip said he wants SL to be like, like buying a pizza with L$ and having it delivered. say make a t-shirt that has actually had a bit of care and thought gone into it instead of a pic ploppin in the middle and the rest of the t-shirt plain white... HOW ABOUT!! secondlife designer wear... 'i just bought this deisgner shirt for 200$ in Secondlife'... 'WOW, how cool'... *meanwhile in Milan down the catwalk*... ' and next we have zee wonderful and zee beautiful SECONDLIFE range'. hehe, ignore that last paragraph

We wanted to offer Custom T's based on what people wanted as individuals. However we did "Pre" set a bunch for sale with the LL logo. As at the time it was new and we thought it might be Unique. Below I am attaching Pics that will give more of an Idea of what I would like to do in the future if it is wanted. Mind you these are examples and can be tailored to any av or pic But an example none the less Shadow

Aimee's spot on here.
I think that people would be largely interested in 2 types of merchandise:
-Merchandise that allows them to show off their inworld creativity; images of their avatar, their home, their creations, their friends. Images of people "doing things" in SL, or just plain emoting like Aimee's kewl new forum emoticons. BTW, I predict that these will catch on, and as long as the Avatar Emoticon hasn't been copyrighted yet, I plan on eventually copying her lead and putting in similiar things of mine. I think it'd be a GREAT thing for a 3rd party website to host, like SLUniverse; customized emoticons for avatars.
-Merchandise that has only sideways references to SL; that refers to an in-community joke or which is in the spirit of guerrilla marketing. Someone else mentioned the idea of baseball cards for famous community members.
I'd love to see a "Got Prim?" guerrilla marketing campaign, where people could download posters of prominent community members with a single prim pasted to their upper lip, and a short description of who they are and what Prim has done for them. Maybe no link even to the SL website; sort of like all the scrawled "Frodo Lives!" or "Yossarian Lives!" messages that popped up on subway walls and fences back in the 1950's. Leave the posters up somewhere, or out on a table, take ten with you in your backpack and just leave them around.

Shadow, if you didn't include the SL logo on your tees, but had in-world images, would they cost less?

You can create t-shirts and other items with any picture you like on them athttp://www.zazzle.com. You can purchase them yourself or set them to sell on the website and you get a percentage of the sale.
You couldn't do the SL logo coz of copyright I guess.. But Merwan could get his Awakening Avatars Shirt!

From: Unhygienix Gullwing Shadow, if you didn't include the SL logo on your tees, but had in-world images, would they cost less? Actually I only charge what they charge me for the Gear + the % to pay for the Logo and % for the cost of my maintaining the site otherwise. I make no money persey off this. I just thought it neat for people to have access to so to answer your question. Yes without the logo I could discount it the same percent I would normaly have to pay for the TM License. From time to time they offer Bulk rate deals where 15 or more are discounted to me significantly. The Key thing I guess is I can make one or set it for many just like Prims persey. However, Like Zapoteth pointed out there are other sites where people could do the very same thing without the logo at their own price. But at this point only two organizations have a Trade Mark License agreement with Linden Lab so using the Linden Logo else where an individual without one could be sued not only by the two individuals holding a TM but Linden Labs as well. Just a note of reference Mind you. Shadow

I think that it'll be nice if LindenLabs actually do an official line of basic merchendize. Will satisfy some obsessive users and will definetly not hurt their wallets. Hell, if they'd do a Plywood Cube key-holder, i'd buy one!

Hell, if they'd do a Plywood Cube key-holder, i'd buy one! The thing is Crystal LL doesnt want to be bothered with having to market find vendors etc. to do what you are requesting. Thats why they have people with the TM License agreements to do it for them. So in essence they already have an Official line of Merchandise. Shadow
