That's brilliant to link to Cristiano's Snapzilla site on the main page. Like somebody else in this thread said, it provides an immediate little voyeuristic peek into the world of SL for someone who's just discovering it.
I'm sorry that I'm not doing my duty and trying to get into SL to represent the population during "peak hours," but I've been reading with kids before it's time for them to go to bed.

Btw, are you looking at Aimee's picture on her profile and thinking hmm..that doesn't really look like Aimee? Well, you'd be right because it's me! Haha Mistress pointed it out I was like that's not Aimee! Woops! *Okay nevermind lol I just looked again and now Aimee's picture is up. I don't know if that means they fixed it or if it just rotates her model pictures perhaps? Either way I'm glad her pic is on there now <3

I agree, it was a nice change. And a much needed change in the website.

Needs work. Navigation feels awkward again. I personaly dislike when links are off from other pages, such as clicking on on Features gives you the list on the left, but otherwise those options are hidden to you. Also the Home on every page seems misplaced and I keep thinking it'll take me to the Features home, or the Land home, rather than the front page. Map is wrong with screenshots, does not provide location names, and isn't the full map. It'd be cool if we could also get live-greendotage, and different views such as New Objects and Land for Sale. It would help give a better visual representation to some of the data given. I also dislike how the "Residents" menus keep getting smaller and smaller and more hidden. Originaly everything was visible to everyone, Downloads, Forums, Events pages, these were nice to see and to be able to refer to people without saying "you'll need to login". Plus they were alot easier to find and get to. The Resident Profiles, anyone remember on the 2nd iteration of the website, there were Resident Profiles, in which the profiles were rotated, and you could submit your own profile, a picture, with a little something inspiring about SL. I'd like to see this return and replace the current profiles among the website (no offence to those featured). The actual information and layout of said information on the pages seems fine to me. However the Pricing page confused me, with regard as to how the comparisons are layed out, while I like it and the information provided (exception being "512 square meters, with ability to purchase more" which sounds weird to me, like there is a set 512 square meters with my name on it, which could be true through L4L, but its only mine if I claim it, and its not free), it seems that the table should be more broken apart to better distinguish they are TWO options seperate, and not one continueous. At first I skiped the top of it all together and just read the "Cost:" line first. Perhaps its just me. The front page... side text sucks, turning my head to read text isn't fun. Why can't I click the images and be taken to the slpics.com page with that image on it? To see it larger? But yet I CAN click the location link? Also nothing tells me where those images are coming from, is that a feature built into SL? I like the information about how many users are in and how many currently exist all together, the Transactions thing is a bit weird, why isn't it in L$ also? It would kind of give the impression that SL deals only in US$. Also I swear that its just a random number generator going up exponetialy . The map though, like I said, needs work. I like the idea of having a world map, but for it to be of any real use it needs to work properly and would be nice to see the full map with more features to make it more usefull. Should it really be on the front page though? The world map isn't the most beautifull thing about SL, its actualy kinda ugly, dark, and congestedly confusing. Overall I like some of the ideas presented, but not the implementation. I think I said that about the last design too.

Heh, Oz, the gentlemanly way in which you present your ideas really does prompt and encourage Lindens for future improvement. One thing I'm confused by is this: Oh, wait, you already said it. I was VERY confused how clicking on the little squares to display screenshots doesn't correspond to actual locations. I was like, "Wait... Numbakulla isn't there... unless this is an alternate reality." I think transactions is in US$ to show those who aren't Residents yet that YES, YOU CAN MAKE REAL MONEY IN THIS GAME+! I'm also hoping those Snapzilla thumbnails are actually linked to full-scale images. It's tuff to not be able to click-'n'-expand them! Water color on the map is pretty dark and low-contrast, and deeper than the actual color of water in SL. Hmmm. I wonder what this could lead to? And... on the orange badge on the left midsection, for my poor eyez, "NO MONTHLY FEES" is kinda hard to read. P.S. I also miss "OH BEHAAAAVE!" or somesuch thing from the CS page.

Phoo. I was hoping to find that resident profile I filled out and waited for a month to see there. I really am all washed up.

Missing profiles...

From: Psyra Extraordinaire Phoo. I was hoping to find that resident profile I filled out and waited for a month to see there. I really am all washed up. We DO have some unused profiles. It was nothing personal, since we mostly did a quick drag & drop. We will be rotating the profiles and adding more soon! Thank you for your help and input! Don't lose hope! : ) Thank you, Lauren Linden

Overall - I like the format change, but I think the content needs a lot of work. Isn't the map a little misleading, since the places you click don't correspond with what's actually there? If I actually saw something I liked on the map, and I was new to SL, I may log on and go to that location to find ... something utterly different? Also, I like the pictures, but I don't like the fact that they seem to repeat so often. I mean, Juro's castle is great, and I love looking at it everyday as I can see it from Varney ... but um... i clicked through and saw the castle like, 4 times. Enough castles! How about some ... Japanese pagodas? Or a city sim rendered with a high distance setting? Or one of the gorgeous nature-themed islands? I also think that I liked the old website's overview of products, better - I got a much better sense of the variety of things available in world from the old website; the new one has more landscapes, many plain.

Yeah, I get that, but at the same time, theres nothing on the front page that says "SL Uses L$" but there is that ticker, which is in US$. Which could lead someone who knows nothing about SL, other than from articles which more lately are talking about how you can make USD in SL, but may sometimes leave out L$, or doesn't even read those, to be confused when they later find out about the L$. Or not, I could be falling into the "suspecting people are stupider than they are" trap. Regardless I personaly know I'd be curious to see Live stats of L$ as well as USD, for more informational purposes! The more info the better! Yes, true, deep oceans would be nice, but we don't have those now. I don't think the color of the map should change. But as a first thing you see of SL, its a bit weird. Could just be me. And yes I agree with that, the NO MONTHLY FEES is a big deal IMO, Guild Wars gets alot of praise for doing it, so SL should have it as a big point as well. I'd suggest maybe adding a simple outline around the text as there is with 9.99. Lauren, thank you for taking the time to read this thread and read our comments! Makes you feel better when you know someone is listening. One of my favorite parts of the new design is actualy the new 404 messages: http://secondlife.com/hippoCreepy children of the corn thing going on there too. Is the corn line on the very bottom supposed to be there though? Or is that an error? The quote is great.

I need help! =D

Yes, I agree. The previous website with its Navigation of the stuff at the top, products, AND locations, I felt better displayed the possibilities of SL. Edit: I WANT TO SEE PSYRA's PROFILE.

It wouldn't hurt to advertise how much LL's customer service rocks compared to other MMOs... also adding that it's supplemented by mentors, Live Help, friendly player base, etc.

Do you feel the front page map should be ornamental and stylized though, a la some of the decorated Magellan maps which have appeared before? Edit: I WANT TO SEE PSYRA's PROFILE. Quickly seconded. Psyra is a true avastar, and as the reigning birdman of avatraz, he and his masterful creations cannot be denied. I mean, who among us has been in the WA and seen Psyra flapping in and then, the remarks follow: "KEWL AV!!!" He wowed me on Day 1, or 2. One of the two, anyway. From: Hiro Pendragon It wouldn't hurt to advertise how much LL's customer service rocks compared to other MMOs... also adding that it's supplemented by mentors, Live Help, friendly player base, etc. Highly, highly important and I'm quick to mention how this should integrate in with the community section and volunteer help signup pages... there is a FANTABULOUSTIC support community here. Google made a point with "Don't be evil", I think LL can shine their own proverbs.

WHAT? Me? Since when??? I realize sometimes I have to calm down to elucidate a point, but when I'm waxing sponterrific or superhappygo-cream over something, I just HAVE to show I'm enthused. My gosh, I may be a catbot, but I have feelings too! Also notice an increased emphasis towards games: http://secondlife.com/games/Veteran Resident Pirate Cotton has created an SL Games Wiki with a near-exhaustive resource guide to games available, and where to play them in Second Life. That, and and I really like how the word "Residents" is capitalized like a proper noun, don't you? One BIG thing Lindens are missing out on, still: NOT HAVING SIMS NAMED AFTER WU-TANG CLAN.

yeah, it's safer not rocking the boat. I certainly know how that is Hey Lindens... how about making those pictures expandable to the full version on snapzilla. I think it's pretty frustrating not to be able to zoom in.. some people might get the impression that's all you can see when you're logged into SL.
