Seems jeska edited my post and closed a thread with jokes.....So I am to assume its ok to preach religon but not ok to joke about it in off topic?

How exactly is Christ performing YMCA intolerent? I'd really love the answer to that....I had some easter bunny kokes too but god forbid I upset the whiny ass christians on the board.

I stumbled on Dirk's thread just as Jeska was locking it -- and I'll say this for you, Talen ... from a technical standpoint, I would say that you were not behaving in an intolerant manner.

I, being a Christian, was genuinely moved by Dirk's thread, and while I do not expect or ask that all feel the same, I will say I was a little saddened to see it travel down the path it did so rapidly. So for me, intolerant, no - but uncouth? Yes. Ill-timed? Maybe. ;)

I have no business upbraiding anyone for their behavior, as I am a very flawed individual and have been known to say and do just the wrong thing and just the wrong time many times. I only wish to point out how things might be viewed from the other side.

As for God forbidding that you upset the "whiny ass christians" ... Well, no, that's not anywhere in the commandments. ;) And I'm quite sure that God has an excellent sense of humor. For me, it was not that a joke was made about Jesus (I happen to kind of like the Buddy Christ, for example, from "Dogma," lol, I think he just "pops." LOL) it's the particular TIME chosen to make a joke about Jesus. If that makes me a "whiny ass christian," sorry! ;)

Talen,

I complained about Neehai's intolerant remarks in a thread last week, but I thought the stuff you posted was pretty funny.

What's the difference?

Neehai was specifically classifying Christians as hateful, evil people.
You, on the other hand, were poking fun in an obviously comical way that didn't specifically target Christians or specific people.

Thank GOD someone gets it....I don't care what religion anyone is to each their own....Humor is Humor Jesus Christ was human himself and I highly doubt he never laughed.

Talen, maybe you don't care but until reading what you posted in the other thread today I had a very high opinion of you. I expect that from the others but you truly surprised me. :(

Many liberals pay a huge amount of lip service to religious and civil freedoms but when a Christian posts the crucifixion story on Good Friday they come out with guns a blazin. I simply cannot understand why this is somehow acceptable behavior.

You named this thread "Religious intolerance?" which I find somewhat humorous because there is no doubt that religious intolerance is alive and well on this forum. I know that you and your friends think it is a big joke to poke fun at Dirk as well as all Christians for that matter but you should all be ashamed of yourselves.

If you do not want to read a thread about Christianity and what happened on Good Friday then I suggest that you not click on it and read it. If you do at least have the decency to not belittle someone for his or her religious beliefs.

I showed no intolerence to anyone or any religion.....Jesus Christ doing YMCA is funny I think even he would laugh. I poked no fun at Dirk as a matter of fact I said nothing to him...The problem with the overly religious is that they take everything way to seriously....You know why there is no mention of Christs life for 30 years?....because he was a normal man with a normal life....most likely married...he most likely danced...and he most likely laughed....but that had to be hidden because the messiah can't be normal.

Why is it intolerant to show Christ doing YMCA.....ok I think the village people sucked too but what... the lord can't be seen in any light other than the most sanctimonius?

Millions of jews were killed in Germany and I see images of hitler and references to him here every day...EVERY DAY...and yet I'm intolerant?

Heres something that might shock you I believe in God...and Jesus....I don't buy thousands of years of organized religion in their behalf...its all bullshit propaganda to oppress and control the masses.

Remember intolerance the next time you see hitler brought up...or muslims...Remember intolerance when certain people in this forum judge others for their political beliefs or how they stood on the Terry Schivo case.....lets see who speaks up for thos intolerances because none have as of yet....while you're doing that hum YMCA and see if you don't smile...

Yes I did as I was referring to the posters in that forum and how nobody had anything positive to say, the evidence of the posts speaks for itself and I stand by what I said.

Asha, I can't and won't speak for anyone else, but I will say this: you mistook my motives when I suggested that a better way to react to Dirk's post was to tell alternative parables and morality stories, to "open up" the thread to all people, and not just Christians.

I stand by what I said.

So, Talen sent me the image yesterday. I think it's deliciously irreverent and I'm dying to post it. However, before I do I would like to ask you if you'd mind seeing it. It seems like the vast majority here wouldn't mind. I could do it in two ways, either in line so one could see it instantly or embedded so one has to click to see it.

For the intolerant reactive minority I invite you to either leave the thread, put me on your hide list for the time being, or prepare yourselves emotionally.

And you wouldn't consider yourself among the intolerant reactive minority?

Post it. I, for one, will probably get a good laugh out of it. As for the attitude you've displayed in this thread, Ulrika, all I can say is: Piece of work.

Woah! What's wrong with being a Christian? I happen to be a Christian. I'd appreciate it if someone would simply explain why it's necessarily bad to be one.

Just because there's no entrance exam, and any closed-minded, abusive, selfish git can join, I think it's a bit lazy to make those kinds of generalizations about "Christians".

We don't want to be bigoted in our reaction to bigotry, do we?

Kathy, Kathy, Kathy. You don't want to go there, believe me. Don't you know? God is dead, faith is a logical fallacy, and Christians are worse than lepers. *tongue in cheek*

Paolo, you see, you just don't get it. You keep claiming all kinds of unique and interesting things for Christianity, when other religions claim similar characteristics. Why should the Christian God be the only God who is dead? Why should faith be a logical fallacy, and not logic be a faithless fallacy? And why are Christians the only ones worse than lepers? Why can't Buddhists be worse than lepers, or Daoists or Stoics or Epicureans?

Goh-oh-ollee, you'd think that Christians are either the best things in the world or the worst things in the world, from what goes on in these threads.

That photo was neither an attack nor breeding intolerance ...I personally attacked no one and it wasn't meant in hate. Your customoer support team is full of racist bigots if they can recommend that to be edited yet not all the crap alby posts with the Swastika and Hitler I mean hey...whats 8 million jews murdered compared to one Christ doing YMCA...

Pathetic...

I think you have me confused with Billy. :p

My point, of course, is that it's still politically correct to malign a group of people loosely organized around a common creed. Had I substituted one of the other gods or religions mentioned in your post, don't you think that the PC police would have been all over me in a flash? At any rate, I haven't seen persistent, ongoing threads of derision targeting those other faith constructs.

Again, we don't 'compare' the intended intolerance of one post against another, all posts are reviewed individually. If you see a post that you think violates the Community Standards, is posted in the wrong forum, or in some way requires review, please report it. We’ll take a look at it and will take any action necessary.

So you didnt know more wars have been fought over religion than anything else?

suggested reading Memnoch the Devil by Anne Rice - a new twist on an old tale.

I prefer to think that each one of us is our own god

So what was reviewed was not the pic but MY intended intolerance? Again I'm completely baffled by LL's thought process...Yes I must mean all Christians such harm by making them see Jesus Christ do YMCA I am eveil...who would have thought Christ doing YMCA was this evil....I would think showing him beaten and crucified would be much more evil but hey what do I know I'm intolerant.

And obviously you don't compare or even bother to look at the real intolerance ....because its all still posted.

The funny thing is if I would have posted a pic of Buddha on a pogo stick singing YMCA you would have done absolutely nothing.....and everyone in this forum knows it.....

Thank you for that Seth. It's not often I get such a perfect setup to tell the kissing Hank's ass story. I think something that easily offended believers tend to forget is that being intolerant of a religion or a belief system is not the same thing as being intolerant of the believer. For non-believers and those turned off by Christianity there's usually no escape. We live in a very relgion saturated culture that tends to show very little tolerance or sensitivity for non-believers who'd rather not be evangelized to. We are always the ones to be labeled as intolerant, but the term is just as applicable to those who choose to evangelize without sensitivity to who their audience is and whether or not it's something they care to hear. The whole purpose of evangelism is based on the notion that people who don't accept "the good news" are wrong and need to be saved. That in and of itself is intolerant. I always find it ironic that those who express a contrary view through serious debate or irreverat humor are quick to be called intolerant, yet those doing the labeling seldom stop to think that what the people they're labeling are reacting or responding to was itself an intolerant act that many people find offensive.

We don't want to be bigoted in our reaction to bigotry, do we?
Well Kathy, you're one of the few people who can get me to be serious on this topic. As a very rational person, I have never had the capacity to believe in unprovable invisible supernatural beings. I had my realization that gods in general didn't exist when I was about 15 years old to the great dismay of my Catholic family.

I quickly found that religion was a very special topic. While I was able to educate and change the minds of people on most topics, religion was not one of those topics. I discovered, because religion is outside of the realm of rational thought, rational conversations leave most believers unmoved. As a matter of fact I found that rational discussions on the subject were instead met with irrationality and hostility (contrast this to other topics where rational discussion is valued).

Because of this, I rarely discuss religion rationally. Instead I tend to play with the topic, making irreverent statements, challenging people with taboo content, and generally being a mischievous "devil". Thus, in this thread I'm simply having good fun at the expense of the irrational beliefs of others. (Is this how Alby feels torturing liberals?)

In another thread I saw an animated gif of President Bush dancing in a tutu. Is there really a difference in seeing an animated gif of Jesus dancing to the Village People's YMCA? Both challenge taboos that portray political and religious figures in humorous situations. Yet notice how one is acceptable and the other is not.

To elevate this thread above simple intolerance (as requested by Jeska) and borderline bigotry, let's ask the question, why can we see Bush dancing in a tutu but not Jesus doing the YMCA? Further, if we prepare individuals for the content by first discussing it and then giving them a warning before its appearance, why should we not be able to post it in this forum?

Because now the point is moot..If I posted it now it would get removed because I made previous remarks on it....if instead of Jesus doing YMCA I would have posted Buddha doing it in the original instance we wouldn't be having this conversation....and still the Nazi symbol of hate can be found throughout this forum...
