You brought that entirely on yourself. Still are, from the look of it. Some people never learn.

Guess I still am, Cienna. I just won't shut up.

Few threads that wouldn't exist if No-Pictures was enabled:

/120/c4/45044/1.html

/120/f4/23863/1.html

/120/e9/46521/1.html

All of those make use of attaching images in a legit way. Could they go in Gallery? Sure. But there are still General topics that can legitly have images in them.

So no, this is not a good idea.

It's a good point, however on balance I think the images should go in the gallery.

Encouraging on-topic behaviour is important in maintaining a successful forum.

Oh, don't flatter yourself, you don't bother ME. I just find it amusing that you actually think it matters. :)

There is that. Having an additional option turn them off by forum would be useful, but most form developers view that as a redundancy. In many ways, it is... because most forums have moderation that stays on top of it. (no implication, just a statement of fact).

Agreed, moderation is the best solution to the problem. I am just frustrated with their use - it has devolved into this google image search/Photoshop free for all, and it really further impedes an already damaged forum.

I say we ban this word "the" from these forums. I never liked it anyway and it offends me!

It's used in far too many arguments and people use it to begin sentences needlessly!

Actually, I like it as an OPTION. I have no problem whatever with someone choosing not to read what I post.

The funny thing is Cienna, is that I think most people do have it turned off (it became an option a long time ago that was turned off for everyone).

Unfortunately, a lot of posters post as if they think it is still turned on which simply encourages this very off-topic behaviour.

I have them all on... contrary to public opinion, I can ignore at will. I think I've only used the actual button like... once, and only then because every time you turned around there was another puke.

Options are always better than sweeping, mandatory functionality.

I can ignore at will as well.

I guess I'm more suggesting this as a way to encourage people to stop posting images that are not relevant to the topic at hand.

How nice that you find me amusing, Cienna.

Blaze, much as I understand your point that pictures get used to derail, insult, and whatever else, of course I can't go along with the idea of turning them off for any forum (particularly when the off option is the default option, and it took me weeks to even figure out you COULD have pictures).

Plus I love that bunny with a pancake on its head. How could I live without that?

Ditto. Especially regarding the bunny.

I enjoy the "post your AV" "post your RL photo" "look at my SL art" "here are some new products" "here is a picture of the SL bug I am talking about" "Here is a scan of that new article about SL" threads.

Rather than limit a mode of communication in the name of stopping destructive behavior, why not look to limit destructive behavior regardless of the mode.

I didn't mean that it was JUST for newbie questions, I mean to imply that all the freaking trolls and drama queens are driving people away from the forums.

I got to this point and had to reply :)

I beg to differ Eggy (btw nice hat and AK),. the MAIN reason I keep reading to forums is to get a good belly laugh. The drama has the ability to attract people like flies! The news is full of blood and voilence as well as the newspaper. When I come here the biggest issue is people calling eachother names and being upset with ideas / pictures. I gladly welcome these issues of RL ones, any time- it reminds me of kindergarden and I am ready to play! its also fun to poke at these trolls,. its like a hornets nest and I am one for trouble :)

I feel people take these forums too much to heart. if you dont want an option disable it! its pointless to try and have the forums revolve around your specific views and wants. there are plenty of people who find usefull info here rather its pics or the like.

I dont know where this info is but i am told there is something that could be helpfull somewhere, who knows too many flames to filter threw

HEY lets start a new forum topic = flames! I bet this will be the best thing since sliced bread and we all know how cool that is!

gime more drama! (it will never stop)

I agree, the whiner/victims will target something else with destructive behavior and blame the messenger, as usual.

um IGNORE THEM! we are all adaults here (or should be, I cant tell by your post)
encouragement is offered not forced, ENCOURAGE them to not post pics YOU feel are irrelivent is fine. forcing and or removing the option discourages players from posting legit pics.

hey go apply to be a LL emplopyee and ask to be a forum moderator!? otherwise let bigons be bigons.

Well, I can only point to established and successful forums, such as Penny Arcade and Webmasterworld which do not suffer from the same problems these forums do.

They moderate carefully, and turn off tools which can cause excessive abuse.

We try hard to err on the side of allowing people to freely express their opinions. We don't believe in censorship. Consequently sometimes things go too far, which is certainly the case with the last few days. At this point it doesn't appear that any single person is to blame.

I've closed several threads for review. In the meantime, please think twice before starting another thread with any purpose other than the intended purpose of the forum.

Thanks.
