Blaze, your opinions are irrelevant. These forums aren't here for you or Prokofy to make a stand against elitism / the fic / whatever. If you have strong opinions on something, put them up on a blog.
There is a very fine line between heated discussion and personal attacks, and people in this forum are never any good at walking on the right side of it.
The forums should provide people with a friendly and helpful environment, where newbies can come and be welcomed, get their questions answered, etc.

EXACTLY! God, how hard can this be to understand? I freely admit I am beyond restraint about certain things I see happen here, but only because Linden Labs, for some reason that I cannot discern, will do nothing about it and it is ruining the place.

I'd happily take a ban if it meant every attention whoring drama queen went with me. Just, for pity's sake, do it. Do it now. Do it with consistancy.

Cienna, forum moderation is about creating an atmosphere of friendly conversation. Enabling technology which does not do this only adds to an atmosphere of vitriol.

Images stoke the flames of every forum war I've seen. Turn this technology off, it's just allowing constant abuse of these forums.

LF - perhaps you could be specific, I'm not sure exactly what you are referring to.

Translation: Everything I say should be allowed. Everything those who disagree with me should be censored. Why can't they disagree with me in the narrow little format I demand them to?!!!

I like to start threads I know will set the flames a-blaze at night after the Lindens go to bed. I like to pretend to freak out about things that haven't even happened yet like spamming of the front page with ads, and then, just to show how worried I am, I give the code to everyone and their uncle to do just that, spam the front page.

I am so sure of my own convictions that I can't even bring myself to actually post with my real avatar. I freely admit my forum account is an alt, yet I demand respect.

I didn't mean that it was JUST for newbie questions, I mean to imply that all the freaking trolls and drama queens are driving people away from the forums.

That's what I meant, Eggy.

Let me rephrase:

"environment, where newbies can come and be welcomed"

Now THAT'S funny, considering they ate me alive.

They never contribute to forum topics and all they do is incite anger and hatred and contribute further and further to an aura of distrust and disrepect.

Forum moderators - I hope you're not surprised that you're constantly having to mod these forums. You are creating a cesspool of anger here by your inaction.

Funny, I thought unjustified accusations, outright lies, generalized, vague statements, and simply different personalities and belief structures were the primary contributors to the current forum climate...

Damn, it was images all along?

BAN ALL IMAGES! BAN ALL IMAGES!

Yeah, those don't help either. However, baby steps, baby steps. Turning off images is a good start.

You brought that entirely on yourself. Still are, from the look of it. Some people never learn.

Nolan, we all know what insulting language looks like. It's obvious to anyone.

People disagree with me all the time .. it's why I post. If I was just looking for agreement, I wouldn't post. What would be the point?

However, I'm not looking for flames and insults.

See blaze, you're wrong. It's not obvious to everyone. Talk smack on a train here In Minneapolis, you will most like go unchallenged. You talk smack on a subway in NYC and I highly doubt you will get the same reaction.

Quit trying to impose YOUR view of what is acceptable or not on others. You are not the forum mod here. If you don't like what someone has to say, report it and move on. Spamming out some utopian line over and over again after YOU start drama threads is just bizarre.

Agreed, and I commented on this twice to Blaze, but he won't respond to it. So I challenge you Blaze, again, to respond to the fact that while preaching about civility and respect, you keep a line in your signature that evokes nothing but divisiveness. It is hypocritical.

I guess I have to elaborate to get your reply, blaze.

I didn't have avatars, images, or signatures turned on in my preferences until I read this thread. I said to myself, hey, why not avail myself of those coolio tools for the forum? So, I uploaded my friendly spam avatar and turned on siggys and avatars and images.

That's the first time I saw your signature, blaze. And, ironically, this IS on topic, because I find it offensive. It doesn't create any aura of peace to bring that up every single time you post - you are doing what you say that images do. Perhaps you didn't realise this.

So, as a fellow peacemaker, I ask you to please remove that quote from your signature, because I find it offensive.

I do actually agree with you - their use is out of control.. I am tired of seeing threads derailed with them.

Signature gone. Sorry, but it REALLY REALLY made me mad.

And it *was* completely factual. I wasn't making it up, I was merely quoting.

1) User CP,
2) Edit Options,
3) Thread Display Options; Visible Post Elements,
4) Check off 'Show Signatures', 'Show Images', or 'Show Avatars' as you like,
5) Save Changes.

Kind of like the ignore button. Most people want the functionality, but aren't willing to use it when it is there.

Wow! I can understand how it would anger some and not phase others.
I have to say thanks to you Blaze for complying with those requests. Very big of you.

Cienna,

The problem is that disables it in all forums on the site, and there are many forums on here with perfectly valid use of inline images (the classifieds forums for example). They are being abused in this forum - if we could turn them off on a forum by forum basis, that would be a step in the right direction.

There is that. Having an additional option turn them off by forum would be useful, but most form developers view that as a redundancy. In many ways, it is... because most forums have moderation that stays on top of it. (no implication, just a statement of fact).
