Hi everyone,
I am from good ol´ Germany and joined SL recently.

Please, don´t waste time on localization of the interface! The whole grid is english!!! There are more urgent things to fix, if you want make SL a good game (for germans or anybody else).

English is a mandatory subject in german schools from 5th grade on (in some areas now even from 3rd grade). There are very few people who will have trouble understanding what the "attach" button might do. To understand is not the problem, expressing yourself is a bit harder - especially when you´re new to online games (SL can be very confusing).

I don´t think spawning in front of the Kölner Dom or Neuschwanstein would make german players happier. Why? The current welcome areas don´t look like New York or Kansas...

What I think should be done:

- Get a german bank account so germans can pay with EC-cards! (germans are a bit sceptical about PayPal etc. and many don´t like to use credit cards since EC is very cheap and just as safe)
- Don´t ask for credit card information at the trial registration!
- Better documentation, on SL in gerneral and especially on scripting; this "Helping H.A.N.D." notecard from Brace Coral is very usefull.
- More Promotion for places like the Ivory Tower(is there a similar place for scripting?)
- More events at european time
- Perhaps, invite the german players to build this "german themed" zone. Six empty areas plus the prospect of a "german themed" zone that doesn´t look like an american cliché are a great motivation. This task could create something like a german community, that is present at the german welcome location, at german time.

Freundliche Grüße,
bulli

Wow cool, didn't know that about the schools teaching english, I think it's unfortunate that few kids in our own system don't learn other languages (I know I would have liked to).

Anyway... I agree with you on the building, I believe the contest is open to anyone to submit builds, so if German players want to, I think they can.

The credit card requirement is for age verification, I doubt LL will do away with that.

And I would love to see more documentation myself as well, SL is really lacking in that department unfortunately. I'm not sure if there are scripting places like the Ivory Tower, but I think more advertisement for IT would be great.

The red-headed chick from Small Wonder.

The little next door neighbor, remember? She was a loveable cutie-pie, I wonder what ever became of her.

You mean Emily Schulman? (played "Harriet";)

She was.. bizarrely... in one episode of ALF!

Both she and Tiffany Brissette (Vicky the robot) tanked (no more appearances on TV or film) in the early 90's

Hey all,

Since I was on vacation last week, I didn't get a chance to review the submissions when I said I would. Since my entire in-head clock is now a week off, I am bumping back the submission date a week - so if you had something that was ALMOST ready, but you held back, or if you think that it your build could use a little more spit and polish, you have another week. Friday September 16, Noon SL time.

The Final build deadline will also be pushed back a week to the 23rd.

Ben
