From: Lit Noir Alby, I am a Republican. Yep, Republicans hold all the cards at the moment, but there is still a lot of dissension in the Republican ranks. Winning helps gloss over those fractures to be sure, but Bush has not avoided putting a chisel in those cracks from time to time. The Republicans have been rather good at keeping its factions together, much better than expected, but the open race in 2008 is a major hazard. The Democrats could come out of this strong, or they could implode, waaaaay too early to tell.
Alby, enjoy the win, no harm there. But I'll admit to a bit of buyer's remorse, cause now I know which candidate flaws I have to worry about. Sure, it's settled for four more years, but excepting a few celebrities threatening self-imposed exile, most of us are in it for the long haul. Cracks can be patched. And the Republicans are doing a great job because "They Get It". Democrats are clueless and continue to bleed away seats in the House, Senate, and White House. Maybe oneday when they put down their fist and listen to the pulse of America, they'll regain their once lost glory. But for the next decade or more, the Republicans are the Top Dawgs... w00t |

While I am usually not one to interfere in anyone bashing Alby (his rhetoric often incites it), whether I agree with their politics or not, earlier in the thread you seemed to be suggesting secession. The implicit argument there that any one who votes Republican ever does not "belong" in Blue states. I know the secession thing is just rhetoric, but I am not amused that you believe that I am not welcome in California, the place where I was born and raised, or my current home in MA, just because I "lean" Republican. And yeah, the Republicans don't have a great history in the South since say the mid-1900's or so, but before then, the lynchers were Democrats. Republicans have some issues to be sure, but if you are going to refer to "heritage", that to me goes back beyond the original Republican "southern strategy." |
