Yes, I know, Selfstone. You are right. It's just so DAMN hard to sit by and listen to this in thread after thread.
I don't like to alert posts or anybody for anything, but from this point on, I will alert all posts that imply I am not myself, and trust the Lindens to take care of it appropriately.

From: Siggy Romulus So all I really need to do is dust off one lil rosebud when I'm done -- and I use my wifes mascara brush for that.
Siggy. Dude, that's not funny.

Heh, thanks for reminding me that I need to throw a roll of TP into my son's backpack; his school is making a giant fake cocoon and talking about caterpillars, larvae and butterflies, and each kid is supposed to contribute a roll for this project... um, anyway. (And, oh, yeah, it's tacky to talk about peoples' alts or your guess at their alts on forums.)

From: Juro Kothari So, your upcoming "dry spell" would be.. comedy to me? Indeed it should - were it not for the fact that I find the comedy in my own tragedy *singing* Paddy cake paddy cake bakers man, If your wife is holding out you It's time to use the hand! Siggy. Addendum - besides, you overlooked the opposing forces of nature : Marriage and Sex - the two combine and cancel each other out leaving nothing but American Chopper reruns and the occasional dirty sock.

So what's the verdict on linking alts? Given that it is not mentioned in the forum guidelines, ToS, or CS are we free to do so provided we don't break any of the other rules?
Also, I highly recommend moistened towelettes.

Your entire question - based as it is on the posts which got deleted - is predicated on a FALSE PREMISE in the FIRST PLACE.
You were NOT "linking alts" in that thread.
I am NOT AN ALT.
You were accusing me of being another player.
You were taking two players and saying they are the same person, when in fact THEY ARE NOT.
THUS, this has NOTHING TO DO with LINKING ALTS.
I am not an alt. There is only one me. I have one account, and it is a basic membership.
Now SHUT UP.

From: Ulrika Zugzwang There were some posts deleted in a previous thread where I was attempting to make the connection between a prolific poster and what I believe to be one of its alts. I felt that this was important, as the player and the suspected alt seemed to be churning the forum by expanding upon and answering their own questions. Clearly linking virtual-world and real-world identities is forbidden, however I looked in the CS and ToS and found nothing about linking alts to a main avatar. As a matter of fact the only thing I found in the CS concerning alts is this: Alternate Accounts While Residents may choose to play Second Life with more than one account, specifically or consistently using an alternate account to harass other Residents or violate the Community Standards is not acceptable. Alternate accounts are generally treated as separate from a Resident's principal account, but misuse of alternate accounts can and will result in disciplinary action on the principal account.
I don't want this discussion to be about individuals. Rather I would like it to be about ideas. Namely, is identifying alts against the rules? If so, does that mean we have no recourse but to suffer their self-supporting posts and self-perpetuating threads? If identifying alts is only forbidden in the forums, can we do it in world? ~Ulrika~ As someone who has had an alt or two outted in these forums I can tell you it has happened. Do I think it was right? No All it did was make me cancel those accounts, which in the long run cost LL revenue. Ppl should be allowed to escape or start over if they wish without fear of being openly outted in these forums. If openly naming alts, isn't against the iw and fourm rules it should be. Now as far as griefers go or those out to scam ppl threw alts well that is a differnt matter entirly, throw the book at them and their alls, but make sure its LL that is doing the tossing. Cat

I agree with what Cat said for obvious reasons.

From: Catherine Omega Yes, it's a privacy violation. Consider the following: suppose I freely connect my avatar with my RL identity. Suppose I have an alt I wish to remain private, for whatever reason that may be. By associating my alt with my main account, you are revealing my personal information. QED.
Just because you believe someone to be an alt, it doesn't give you the right to know if they are or not. Nor does the TOS. From a TOS standpoint, there's no difference between posting someone's RL telephone number and speculating about who owns which account. I also agree with this, very good point Catheirne. Cat

coco Coco; I find your posts very refreshing to say the least. Don't worry about being accused of being an alt it. Some ppl think they run these forums when in fact they just ruin these forums. Keep posting sisterfriend your posts are great. Hugz Cat

From: Cocoanut Koala And you think this is FUNNY? This is NOT FUNNY. My patience has worn out. And I must say, the younger population of TSO was in no way as childish as all this. *ponders* You know...I used to know someone named cocoanut on the TSO forums way back when. Her patience was run out quite a bit too. Coincidence? (Personally, I like to make TP origami. Nothing says good hygiene than a swan-shaped lump of used TP.) - Newfie
