Magnum you IDIOT.. most of the bonus is based on weekly ratings, and since you most certainly have NOT been getting as many, your bonus is lower.

Lance, while you may be well-meaning, there is no need to call Mags an idiot. He's gotten enough flak about this already. :(

Okay people, this is how it is...

Our Stipend, nothing changed. This is what we were promised as L$ income when we signed up for SL. L$50 for one-time-payers and L$500 for premium players, each week. That's it.

Bonuses. They are just that, bonuses. You should NOT expect them. They are a, ummmm, bonus! The Lindens are tweaking them to improve our economy. If you get a bonus, great! If not, quit bitching.

I know everyone is upset that the gravy train of abusing the ratings system is now over, but we were hurting the overall economy by misusing ratings. It's over, get over it.

(And if you think that I'm happy as punch because I'm an olbie with high ratings, I'm more than willing and have suggested that we all wipe our ratings to Zero [0/0/0] and start over)

So, it was cut in half, and then since ratings were increased in cost, not as many people are rating so you stipend bonus will probably continue to fall until it hits some balancing number.

Slight correction: the amount of your bonus depends upon where you are in the table of ratings - not the actual ratings themselves.

So, the total rating bonus will be halved for most people as the top 2% in the tables will be likely to remain the top 2% for some time to come (with less ratings being given out), same for the next 5%, the next 20%, the next 23% etc. (guessing at the levels here, but I know they are percentages).

The weekly increase rating bonus will be the interesting one to watch. With the new pricing structure, who will be on that top 2% of weekly increase now? It used to be the newer players who were the ones who met the highest number of not-rated-you-before people each week. Now....?

One thing for sure, LL will have to eliminate the "bug" of reinstated accounts from having their total ratings counted as in the week they are reinstated. Otherwise, the top 10 weekly rating increase table will just consist of the people who got their credit card details fixed that week!

In case I was confusing above, here's a Jane Doe socialite example:

Before change: Jane had a total of 1000 ratings which put her at #145 on the leader board (top 2%), and got 100 new ratings this week which put her at #89 on the leader board (top 2%).

Stipend: L$500
Rating total bonus: L$750
Weekly increase bonus: L$750
TOTAL: L$2000

After change: Jane had a total of 1100 ratings which put her at #155 on the leader board (top 2%), and got 5 new ratings this week which put her at #590 on the leader board (top 50%).

Stipend: L$500 (same)
Rating total bonus: L$375 (half)
Weekly increase bonus: L$37 (greatly decreased)
TOTAL: L$912

Now, here's a John Doe reclusive builder example:

Before change: John had a total of 500 ratings which put him at #300 on the leader board (top 5%), and got 20 new ratings this week which put him at #647 on the leader board (top 50%).

Stipend: L$500
Rating total bonus: L$375
Weekly increase bonus: L$75
TOTAL: L$950

After change: John had a total of 520 ratings which put him at #302 on the leader board (top 5%), and got 25 new ratings this week which put him at #112 on the leader board (top 2%).

Stipend: L$500 (same)
Rating total bonus: L$187 (half)
Weekly increase bonus: L$375 (greatly increased)
TOTAL: L$1052

I think that's the effect LL were looking for. Disclaimer - amounts and tier levels above are guesstimates based on my own experience.

Ok - color me daft... but is the item in question here the 'Estimated bonus' that you get from account info?

If it is then it would certainly adjust through the week - Estimating what you're going to get on Tuesday. Estimates change when data is updated -- like how many ratings you got that week...

I don't think such a phenominon could be called a 'pay cut'...

Siggy.

I used to rate people on appearance or behavior if I thought them deserving with a message like "that's a hoopy AV, Fred. I neg-rate reciprocal raters". Every single person reciprocal rated me. Sigh ;)

I was sitting with friends discussing how my pay was cut twice from 1400 to 900 and Lo and Behold my pay was yet again cut.

I am not at all pleased. We were told our bonus would only be cut in half. But now its been cut 2 additional times.

I am not at all happy.

Magnum,

There is no free money. After reading my post today, /120/bd/35519/1.html , Phillip decided to take a step in the right direction and move towards a more free market. I would not be surprised to see LL cut back on more socialist programs in the future.

We need to be self-sustaining. Not relying on LL for handouts.

Thank you. Thank you, Chicago, for intervening on our behalf! If not for you, the dread hand of the socialist blight would surely turn SL into a Marxist state. Since you seem to have the ear of Philip, can you please ask him if he'll invite me into the fetid inner core? I seem to have been passed over the last time around.

Fetid Inner Core? I am not sure I know what this group is. And unfortunately, I do not know you, so to make a recommendation on your behalf would be untrue of me. But I do appreciate your posts.

Meanwhile, those who have hundreds of thousands of Lindens can still rate other rich people as much as they want.

Who are you, to be so powerful, as to be the ONLY person to have the Ear of the Lindens and to have them in your back pocket?

And there's now no incentive to do so. Ratings are no longer 'free money', since the cost is now equal/greater to the reward, not less.

Effectively, now ratings will settle in as what they were originally intended:
- A reputation system. Not free money.

Ok. On the first cut, I had 1400

A day later, the account page showed my pay at 950

Today it has been cut again to where it is 800

Whoa, I never had any idea stipend+bonus could be so big.... No wonder so many newer players rate mined so heavily before the price increase. I was happy enough with my L$76 bonus, and tryed to earn additional cash... or does/did rate mining count as 'earning'?

Magnum,

We've had this conversation about 10 times.

If you rate a newbie positively 3 times, then yes, you ARE rate mining. You haven't seen a build of their's. You don't know them well enough to rate their behavior.

THIS, YES, IS RATE MINING.

I've done it once in a while, but not to the extend you have. What we call rate mining is exactly what your behavior has been in the past, my friend. Does it make you a bad person? Nope. Does it make you a rate miner? Yes.

Am I tired of having this conversation for the 30th time since the change was announced? Yes. Its time to get over it amig0, this ain't good to your mental health!

Take care,

-Flip
