Pay cut third time this week... What is the deal?

I was sitting with friends discussing how my pay was cut twice from 1400 to 900 and Lo and Behold my pay was yet again cut.

I am not at all pleased. We were told our bonus would only be cut in half. But now its been cut 2 additional times.

I am not at all happy.

Wha? How so? We only get the stipend on a Tuesday so you've only had one since the changes? Or am I being so completely dense that I'm missing something here?

It's because fewer people are rating now that rating costs 25 lindens. Part of the stipend bonus was for receiving weekly ratings from people. At least that was my understanding.

Moopf, you can check your "estimated weekly stipend and bonus" ... I don't remember how, but I remember you can.

They never said anything at all about this. All we were told is our pay would be cut in two.

Look, sorry if I'm interrupting, but could you please explain what you're going on about. We've only had one stipend, on Tuesday, since the new rules, and now you're saying that it's been cut two times since, or something? How can this be? This feels like the twilight zone (I reiterate, I'm probably missing something stark raving obvious, but humour me)

Well, it's implied.

If less people are rating, you get less bonuses.

And all it said was your rating bonus would be cut by 50%, not your pay.

Ok. On the first cut, I had 1400

A day later, the account page showed my pay at 950

Today it has been cut again to where it is 800

The best I can tell the rating system (old) worked like this.

You got a bonus for your total rating as compared with everyone else
You got a bonus for how many ratings you got that week
The bonus was capped out at ... 1500 I think?

That bonus was added to your weekly stipend

The cut the bonus in half, and made the ratings cost 25 per instead of 1 per

So, it was cut in half, and then since ratings were increased in cost, not as many people are rating so you stipend bonus will probably continue to fall until it hits some balancing number.

moopf: you can check your estimated bonus on a day by day basis. It's somewhere in the user menu within second life

I am just trying to explain what I 'think' is factual, if someone else knows exactly how it worked, please explain it. I am just going by what I was told.

Oh you mean estimated, what you're estimated to receive next week? Now that makes sense, the system's just updating what it's estimating you'll get. 'They' aren't cutting it and it's called stipend, not pay.

And also they did say that they would be reducing the bonuses for ratings gradually. So, this isn't anything you haven't been told before. Why do you keep complaining?

They said they would cut it in half. I never heard them say reducing it

I have receaved (Total from all three catagories) 3000 ratings

I have given out 9100 Ratings

magnum - it has been cut in half. you aren't doing you math properly. your stipend is in three parts. your third part, for weekly rating, is now really low because no one wants to rate you. it costs too much to rate to make friends. you will just have to rate mine harder and you can make it up!

Do you understand that the reason you are not getting as much stipend is because of the decrease in ratings? Some of the other posts mention that.

Basically, LL wants to move away from the emphasis on ratings=cash and more to make stuff>sell stuff>earn money. I think this is a good move, personally. Maybe you should try to make something. And if it isn't selling, make it better! Reach for the limits of your creativity! Isn't that what makes SL, SL? Not complaining about ratings. Not this focus on money. Try doing something new!

in my experience the bonus estimates we can get during the week are a lie from satan. all that matters is what you get on tuesday.

I've been in-world for a year and a half, and my ratings are as follows:

behavior: 353
appearance: 329
building: 326
given: 402

That's less than a rating a day. And even that's grossly inflated (my avatar is not 329 points of good, lemme tell ya. And my behavior? hah.)

Magnum.. Your 'pay' has not been cut 3 times. What you are looking at is an Estimate. It will lower every day until Tuesday unless you begin getting rated a lot. It did this before the stipend cuts as well. If you begin getting rated, it will rise, and then begin to slowly drop again if the ratings taper off. This hasn't changed.

I use to rate new people when they arrived and I have had several say the reason they stayed was because someone rated them positively on their first day.

that was uncalled for.

I never rate mine.

I rated newbies who in return said they stayed because I was very nice to them. I rated newbies until the money exchangers whined about their precious lindens being low because people were getting so-called free money.

I am very happy to had given out 3 times the ratings than I took in. It means to me, that I am being very nice to people.
