From: Yashu Vindaloo ok you got banned for more than that.... I know several people that have complained about you handing out your inventory to everyone in ahern over and over and over and over and over and over again.... He stopped that though. No one said stop badgering with badgers.

From: Ryuku Kojima Yeah I've had a few arguements about this type of stuff before. Some people think they don't have to ask to stop before reporting abuse or banning. Like it's something that should just be "KNOWN O_O!" ya... sometimes i hand out free stuff andpeople will accept it yet give me crap.

that was you..... you did it to me a bunch of times
and I beleive you did get abuse reported too from some other people that were there...
when people ask you to stop something.... stop it please....
if you read the welcome area rules it clearly states not to play those loops over and over and over and over and over again if someone askes you to stop it

Cris, you aren't actually trying to make sense of this thread, are you? Hey, I'm all about the "mushroom, mushroom", that song cracks me up. However, I was just in the Welcome Area and it was jammed packed! If five of you showed up playing this song, I would have been annoyed too. Sorry *clears throat* Please note I once dive bombed the Welcome Area with 10 of my friends dressed as seagulls yelling "MINE, MINE, MINE!" over and over again. Luckily the Welcome Area wasn't busy or chaotic at the time or I would have been sent a warning too. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME KIDDIES.

But it was 2 I believe and the welcome area is usually loaded. I think the only thing that he and I are trying to say is please a warning before action.

Vade, considering you were dancing around Ahern Welcome Area with no pants and a monsterous "endowment" attached for about ten minutes while about a dozen people told you that was against the rules and just plain rude, I think you got off easy.
Did you think the two live helpers who arrived, warned you numerous times - because the first 20 times weren't enough - and then said they were abuse reporting you were joking? I guess you forgot about that stunt. Funny, wasn't no badger music playing then.

Whoa there a minute Malachi.. while I might agree with your overall sentiment, you tread a thin line there in suggesting that Live Helpers carry any more weight in "enforcing" he TOS than any other normal/non-Linden resident. Personally, I could give a rat's patootie if a Live Helper tells me squat while in world. As has been seaid repeatedly in the forums, Live Helpers are not Lindens and wthout power to "enforce" squat but are supposed to be answering residents' questions about how to do X or Y in SL... Muddy the waters of Live Helper status at the peril of the entire program - unless I am wrong, in which case, I hope a Linden clarifies and states that Live Helpers should be considerd Baby Lindens. If that IS the case, I and a few others I know will sell our land and leave. No other PAYING customer has a right to tell me squat according to the TOS as far as "enforcement" of any rules goes.

Korg, you state your point well. Food for thought & perspective - - Many (most? all?) Linden Liaisons are part-time employees, and are basically players who play the Linden gig for extra cash / for fun / while going to school / etc. - Live Helps are approved by Robin Linden & co. - What then, considering the first two points, is really the difference between a Live Helper and a Liaison? Basically power and the name. However, they, like mentors, do get the respect and approval of the Lindens, and likely do have influence. The same could be said about veteran players who contribute things to the community and are nice to the Lindens. - Noobs are going to use the Live Help to complain about abuse regardless of how much you tell them not to. They see "help" as "game company help" and they see "live" as "ooh, I don't have to wait for them to email me back". At many hours of the night, there are no Lindens on duty, and even an average person might even think to use Live Help as a way to get the ball rolling if there is an immediate need for Linden help. - If you look at the Live Helper application, one of the skills that you can select is "dispute resolution". It's clearly something Linden Lab seeks. I think Live Helpers are fine doing this, as long as: - they don't gain any power or responsibilty - they don't gain any significant benefits (if they do, they should be a liaison) - they don't do anything in this situation besides asking people to stop, pointing out rules, and reporting abuse. if they even use a tone of writing that suggests a command rather than a request, they become an authoratative figure. They could be like paramedics - fix minor cuts and bruises, get the patients to the hospital, and let the doctors take care of fixing things.

Korg,
There was no suggestion in Malachai's posting that the Live Helpers had any powers or authority that any other player did not. They issued warnings and they filed abuse reports, as anybody there would have been entitled to do.

As usual, Hiro misinterprets posts and motivations while trying to be a hero...
Selador, my point, if you read Malachi's post again, is that by even suggesting that a resident should pay any more attention to a Live Helper vis-a-vis "you are doing this in violation of TOS. I am a Live Helper. My saying so is akin to a Linden 'suggestion'" than to anything any other resident says in a similar situation, then something is wrong.... The suggestion goes against previous public statements about the intent, functions and roles of Live Helpers.
As for Hiro's comments... who the heck cares what your analysis of the LH program is in this thread? Your post is a hijack/"look at me and my 'wise analysis'" post that has nothing to do with this thread. That might sound nasty... It's not intended as any more nasty than my post to Malachi. Then again, I am certain you will feel flamed. Tough.

Clarification for Korg: I citied Live Helpers as they are more like a neighborhood watch and was trying to deflect attention away from the negging that others present received. I don't think they were the only ones to have reported. Hell, I might have but wouldn't tell Vade that.
I hope that makes it more clear. Poor choice of words on my part.

I hope that makes it more clear. Poor choice of words on my part. I thought that was what you intended - hence my post. The Lindens have specifically stated that Live Helpers are jus that - not neighborhood watchers, not mini-Lindens, not "hall monitors".... They are to act solely as auxiliary sources of knowledge for newbies. Your other points, as I suggest, I essentially agree with. However, don't conflate Live Helpers with anything other than information resources or others may get the idea that such residents have a status that they do not.
