Hi Philip, Thanks for your answer. In database I build where full transactional integrity is difficult to achieve (for whatever reason), I usually resort to queuing important, small insertions/deletions/updates to a separate server process or server with transactional queuing capabilities, so as to guarantee they'll NEVER be lost, even if they are to take a week to complete. It's easier to implement than to retrofit a full system to become transactional (not to mention that migrating from MySQL to Oracle is often not an option for pesky financial reasons ). Inventory transfers and insertions seem to qualify as important and atomic. And if the backlog ever grows to unmanageable proportions it's always possible to go offline and let it run through. Hope this helps, apologies if I'm stating the obvious. Best,

From: FlipperPA Peregrine Thanks. I try not to lose site that we're talking over a failure rate under (total guesswork) about 1 in 25000, if not much lower. The problem is now that I'm running a high transaction rate business, it becomes burdensome.
My failure rate is in the order of magnitude of 1 in 10 to 1 in 100. (At least, the ones who've IMed me to request a replacement) A large number of my sales come for Chartreuse, which also hosts Nephilaine's Pixel Dolls. I wonder if it's an artifact of the sim. We've had some problems specific to Char in the past, such as textures not wanting to upload.

Yes, this is another idea, transactional queueing with failover / load balancing. MQSeries and JMS are both great candidates here.

We've had some problems specific to Char in the past, such as textures not wanting to upload. I was talking in my overall SL experience... not just this past weekend. This past weekend is the first time in SL history I recall there being such major problems as payments made without records of who to, and so forth. It seems to have been an anomoly. Something else interesting happened. After SL came back up, a slew of transactions completed. I'm going to investigate these to see what happened and where they were queued, but was too tired last night to do anything more than make a note of it. Regards, -Flip

Yes..Tuesday morning and it is still happening. I bought a hair prim from Lost Therian, the linden left my account but no transfer of the purchase. I contacted Lost to ask for a replacement and until this is fixed, it seems better not to buy things.

Katykiwi, can you check your World ---> Account History and the web site above? I'm wondering if its reported the same way as the problems I found last night, or if this is a new problem.
Regards,
-Flip

Hmm.... this should not be happening right now, as the system is back under light load. Katykiwi can you email me with the exact location of the vendor in-world where you bought the hair so that I can try and reproduce?
Flipper are you getting any reports of this happening this morning?

Nothing to report, everything I've seen shows systems are 5x5. Hopefully this was just a one time glitch. One other request while we're on topic... any chance of having "Busy Mode" not auto-reject inventory offers, but just queue them like Instant Messages? I know this has been brought up before, but this issue has come up occasionally too... people don't realize when buying you have to unset busy, whether it be from an in world vendor or a web site. Regards, -Flip

Object Transfer Update
05-17-2005 07:54
I had to log for a short time, and when I returned the primmy hair that I purchased was in my inventory. It must have been a lag delay. So for everyone missing purchased items. wait a bit and check your inventory again!

I had two inventory passes yesterday that I accepted, but when i looked in my inventory it wasnt there until later then i had two copies of each thing that was passed to me. Oddly enough, the few things I purchased in world came to me immediately.

I know I bought (on purpose) four instances of the same garment on sunday from Neph's Pixeldolls in Chartreuse, got debited for the not inconsequential L$ amount, and they never found their way into my inventory. I bought another item from the same store this morning (tuesday morning, Europe time), and it worked flawlessly. But those 4 previous transactions seem gone .

Bonjour Stephane! I would highly recommend contacting Neph. She, like many of us running businesses, is probably going to take a little while to correct these problems, but she's a lovely lady who has always been an asset to the community. We've all been a bit swamped catching up with these customer service issues. When I was a n00b, she was the first one to give me an outfit that I liked! J'espere que vous etes en bon sante (sp?). (Sorry, my French is horribly rusty.) -Flip

Hi Flipper,
I IMed Neph aready. I've talked to her several time in te past, and I agree, she's one of the best designers around and a very nice person to boot!
She hasn't come back to me yet, but I expect she is swamped with demands after that dreadful week-end.

I can only speak for myself, but I hope if anyone reading this who has external contact with Neph would be so kind to relay.. I do NOT hold her responsible in ANYWAY for this mess and I sincerely hope that Linden Labs will work with her as well as every other high volume retailer to sort out this nightmare of data loss. I have no doubt any IM to Neph at this point is prolly reached its cap and she may simply not know who has been trying to reach her. Oh and Phillip.. yes.. it IS LAME and FRUSTRATING.. now make it all better please. -Rose.. PixelDolls fan for life.

Rose, the best way to get in touch with a busy retailer who's usually over their IM cap is to make a folder named something like "message from (your av name)" and put a notecard inside it with your message. Drop the folder on her profile.

Thank you for the suggestion Chip. I will do that when I come in to SL again, but somehow the idea of adding MORE inventory to her prolly over burdened inventory seems strangely odd. Take care, Rose
