I have a new favorite feature: I can see ground textures with a GEForce4 MX! I felt so bad I bought that card and now I don't! Thank you SL for destroying one of my regrets! lol

Yay! Bump mapping is hugely improved in this test. using the brightness or darkness setting to make the bump map match the texture no longer looks hideous... it now looks great! And bump mapping on clothes is just too cool. Bravo!

Ryen:
You're taking part in a test so that the Lindens can pinpoint bugs -- as it states on the preview page: New for this build: We would love to hear about bugs in this build, especially things that crash the Second Life client or the servers. Please use the in-game Report Bug... item under the Help menu, or if you crash, the crash reporter. I'm sorry you can't see some of the new features because of your crashes, but it is important that you tell the Lindens what's going on so they CAN fix it for release. That's the whole point of this preview. |

There's a lot of new LSL commands such as llGetRegionName to finally get the regions name, llGetRegionFPS to get its FPS, and some others like llSetSitText or llSetTouchText to set pie menu text. COOL!

Fun, Fun, Fun!! Best 1.1 test so far. Its been pretty stable for me, nothing bad to report. Lots of fun new features.
Only thing I noticed that needs attention is the AV's. They have words on the skin where wrinkles should be. Ichanged to one of my AV's and the skin was all streaked in weird color, but its much better than the previous tests. |

I look completely different
10-07-2003 17:40
When I logged into 1.1, the first thing i noticed was that I looked dramatically different and that none of my prior saved skin/shape/etc files can restore what I look like in 1.0.
Is this just a bug? I do not know if I could handle my looks me being changed after it took me so long to get a face and body that I found acceptable. On a positive note, everything did look more detailed and my make-up had more depth to it. Briana Dawson Club Vogue Dancer |

Yeah I noticed my av was taller and kinda looked a bit chubby. I could fix the chubbyness alright, but I couldn't make my av any shorter, and I did try a number of ways. Something about the torso I think, it seems longer to me, even when the "torso length" slider is all the way down. Also the standing animation seems a little different to me.
And my FPS seems to be pretty low. Around 7-10 FPS when I was all alone, whereas in the last 1.1 test I had a really good framerate of 20-25 and there were 5-10 people in my view. And ALSO... I'd STILL like to have the option of the old minimap. I'd like to reiterate that I use my minimap drop-down lists ALL THE TIME and I HATE that I have to open up a HUGE WINDOW each and every time I want to see who's on or to track someone or someplace. PLEASE for the LOVE OF GOD give us the option of having the "current" minimap instead of the 1.1 version! Come on! ... I'll give you a dollar! |

I agree Casval. The new map is nice, but I do prefer the current map style we use in game. With 1.1, the regular map is too large and cant be shrunk down to a good size. I want to use the map the way I use it now. If I choose to close the map, I dont want it replaced with a mini map. I want everything highlighted in tracking to go away when the map is closed, I dont want to have to manually change it all the time.
New map changes can be incorporated into the current functionality of our nice, simple, effective, map controls. |

i looked odd too...
10-07-2003 18:11
it happened when i was out on the canoe. my face looked fine from afar, but as you zoomed in my skin went away and a metallic Terminator-like appearance showed up.
also, for the Lindens: i *completely* agree with Casval Epoch in that we should have the option of the current mini-map WITH the drop downs... that's a very handy feature. much moreso than having to open the giganta map! |

I wish this test had been stable for me - I could not go very far or even turn my view without the program crashing. After about 40 or so crashes, I gave up for now, though I did use the crash logger each time to try to help diagnose it. I had no problems wiith the past two previews, but this one was a disaster for me. What I did get to see was nice though.
Also, as far as the avatars changing, there were some changes made to how avatars look, though thankfully not as dramatic as the two previous previews. Hopefully they will back off from these changes altogether before release, as a lot of people are unhappy with forced changes to avatar looks after working so hard to develop attractive avatars in SL. One question I have is what was the rationale for taking away the Focus On option? The interface is obtuse enough for users without having to resort to the keyboard just to zoom. I know you can use the alt key, but it was nice to be able to zoom and focus specifically on something with just the mouse. It was an odd choice to remove such a useful option. |

Also, please move the drop downs for calling cards and locations back to the minimap, and make the minimap window able to be closed - we should not be forced to keep a window open, and should not have to go through an extra step to get to functionality that was readily available on screen before - this is a step backwards in useability.

I agree on the map; it's a nice idea, but the old one works pretty well without being clumsy.
