My very existence proves it.
Oh! And it's good to see that you kids work out your deep theological issues in a video game forum! Very healthy. I've been discussing the work of Renoir in a "Microsoft Monster Truck Madness 2" forum. Those guys are really insightful, too. I think you have a good point there GM. The "philosophical" discusions here are more like circle jerks of the clueless. Amusing, but not informative. Fodder for the circle's consideration: Current theories in physics predict that our universe is indeed just one of an infinite set of universes (branes) all being run in parallel. Each universe differs from its neighbors only in tiny ways, but the implication of this is that in one of those universes there are in fact pink alligators in our gardens. Talk among yourselves...

Mac,
<<the implication of this is that in one of those universes there are in fact pink alligators in our gardens.>>
Indeed. And if the multiverse is in fact infinite, then everything that could possibly happen is happening at this moment. In many of those universes there will be an old man with a white beard sitting on a cloud controlling everything.
But so far as I am concerned, this is a universe without pink, pipe-smoking alligators and heavenly old men with beards.

And exactly what have you said to prove that you are in any way of superior knowlege, philosophical ability, or intelect? Considering what you've said in this thread... nothing.

Considering what you've said in this thread... nothing. Well, I guess you didn't read any more of my post than that which you quoted. I brought up an item of actual, current, scientific activity, rather than just say "here is what I think and the rest of you are wrong." It is in fact a need that some people have to engage in personal attacks rather than an actual conversation. Opening a thread with a question, as you did, then waiting for responses so you can take pot-shots at people is not the same as actually discussing an issue. I regularly check out topics here that look to be of interest, but more often than not if the topic is politics or religion then ideas which are not "politically correct" are responded to by personal attacks. I suggest that current scientific thought does not produce concepts that are 180 degrees removed from religious belief as some here would imply. It never has been an either/or proposition and it certainly isn't now. I won't waste anyones time with further responses that are off-topic.

It's a bit late to take the high ground. Sorry.

Dusty, good points, I never really thought about that, creating something out of nothing is basicly what you'd be doing, and as we know right now, thats impossible, but thats as we know right *now*. Who knows if it could ever really happen. If you think about it though, it wouldn't be something out of nothing, cuse theres always ether, but still, your point stands even with this. What if though the creation of energy transfers with time, I.e. since you are going back in time you cease to exist in that time anylonger, thereby freeing up energy to create yourself back in the other time. Time and energy could be cross dimensional, but would your point still stand if it were? Side note, he could also be a stem cell baby from the future. Also, I was thinking about this recently... if Fate exists, if we're all going to meet a certain point that is unavoidable, do we have free will? Sure we could take different routes to get to that point, but does that really count? And if there is a god and if he/she/it knows all this and knows what will happen in the end, is it really free will? How do I know someone didn't just tell me to scratch my ear? I like the idea of infinite amount of universe where everything can and will and does happen at any random time. Kinda troubling to think of another parrallel me getting crushed by a plane right now though, :| , or a pink smoking allagator munching on my foot. There was something I read once where it states that every movement you're making right now someone else on earth is doing the same movement or something close enough to count as it. Which could be possible if you take into account how many people are around. However if you do something whacky like a crazy face the chances of someone else doing it right now are of course limited. Movies that I've found interisting that have delt with time travel/dimensions: Cube 2, Back To The Future Series, Bill and Teds Adventures, Time Cop. And I appologize for sleepless rants, lol.

Re: Time Travel

From: someone Originally posted by Dusty Rhodes In vitro fertilization has been around for decades. Your existence doesn't even prove your parents were ever on the same continent. My bad. I've been genetically engineered to give people the benefit of the doubt. Firstly, Time Travel was a damn good TV show. Dusty, I believe there's a flaw in your argument. You seem to be assuming that the space-time continuum is linear. It would be more accurate to describe it as curvilinear; in the sense that if you travel in a 'straight line' away from a stationary point at sufficient velocity for a sufficiently long period of time, you would eventually find yourself at the same point where you started. It may well be that the quantity of dark matter in the multiverse creates a warping effect so powerful that it results in the space-time continuum being a true Klein Bottle. The "true orientation" which your argument presupposes would not be possible within the relativistic, non-orientable context. So, Schrodinger's cat chases it's tail at trans-warp velocity and actually catches it. And so also does it work with time travel. The past universe would not have to be re-created, because you would be arriving while it was still there. Anyway, time travel is fact, not theory; just ask any tachyon.
