Ok, just watched Donnie Darko, and it got me a-thinkin...

If time travel is possible, and we know it is from Stepehen Hawkings and Brian Greene, then it's possible to see what we're going to do in the future. And if we see what we're going to do, then we are faced with the choice of wheather or not to do it. Therefor, how can there be a God ruling 4 dimentional timespace if we can travel in a 5 dimentional way (wormholes)? Indeed, God would have to be a 10 dimentional being. Allow me to explain my reasoning:

A 2 dimentional object can travel through one dimentional space IN 3 dimentional space. It is still subject to 3 dimentional space, i.e. it can't move in it. Us, and the world around us, can travel through 3 dimentional space, subject to 4 dimentional space. We travel in 3 dimentions all the time, and we certianly travel IN time, but we can't travel THROUGH it. We're still subject to time. A 4 dimentional being can travel through time (wee, a time machine), and so on. A 10th dimentional being, however, can travel through 10 dimentions, but is subject to NOTHING.

Therefor I conclude that God, if there is one, is a 10 dimentional being.

According to religious dogma, God is omniescent and omnipresent.

Therefore, God is a being of inifnite dimensions.

Also, another theory postulates that were you to go back in time, you would enter a parallel universe, very similar to the one you were in, but diverging at the point where your "present" self hopped into the "past" universe... you wouldn't really be going back in time, though... the parallel universe would just be delayed x amount of years (x being how far "back" you travelled.)

This would eliminate the "killing your dad so you can't exist" paradox, among other things.

Which part?

What lordfly's referring to is a theory in quantum mechanics that basically says 'in any case where there's more than one possible outcome, ALL possible outcomes happen. They just don't all happen in the same universe.'

So travelling 'back in time' is actually travelling to another universe.

So basically traveling backwards in time is actually traveling sideways in time?

You could say the same about the future - who's to say it doesnt already exist for me ten years from now (hopefully more lol). In which case, one can only move diagonally :D

Shouldn't a 10 dimensional being be able to move through 4 dimensional space? If so, where is he! Why isn't he feeding the hungry and stopping war!?

why would he/she/it care?

maybe he/she/it likes it that way or is above all of it?

This is why I say that if there actually is a god, he/she/it is an irresponsible prick not worthy of worship. Maybe I'm not really an atheist after all. Maybe I'm just a consciencious objector. :D

How did you like Donnie Darko Darwin?

Actually, there is no Nietzsche; God killed him. ;)

Darwin, micro-managing the Universe is our job, not God's. He created the prims and linked them together, but we are the janitors.

This thread makes me so glad to be a 3 dimensional buddhist...

I was fairly sure that quantum mechanics already necessitated more than 10 dimensions. I can't remember the exact number but I thought it was between 11 and 14.

Donnie Darko was meerly OK, but I felt as if it went outside the bounds of logic. PM me and we can talk!

Okay if GOD is infinite.....there is nothing in this world or beyond to compare to ....everything is finite....

......................except numbers....................

so that brings one to think as in x(y)=z..........So every action has a reaction and i dont think there is a set future so to speak. so you cannot see your future....unless you know every single choice, action.....and for sure know the outcome, reaction......even with the utmost confidience what choice or action will taken does not ensure that such said action will possitivly without a doubt occurr as formulated........

God wouldnt get his giggles....if he was to intervien in our affairs....and if you believe in a God then most parents can understand....sometimes you just gotta let children make their own choices.....

when iam not in my right mind....my left mind gets pretty crowded.

smokem if you gottem........just not enuff days in the weekend. why all this heaviness.....btw i love that wheelchair dude....Hawking rocks!

As far as I know traveling backwards in time is not possible. It has been theorized that if you could travel faster than light than you would go back in time, but as we all know, it's impossible to travel faster than light.

Traveling into the future is very possible though, and in fact we do it all the time. Let me explain.

According to the general theory of relativity and the good old E=MC^2 equation when a object moves through space two things happen. The faster it goes:

1. The more it's mass increases

2. The more time slows down for the object relative to other objects.

This means that everytime you walk your mass increases and time passes slower for you relative to other people. You don't really notice this because at those speeds we are only talking about fractions of a billion change in mass and time.

NASA has taken very precise atomic clocks into orbit where the differences in time are just measurable. The clocks brought back are always slower than their counterparts left on Earth.

Ok science lession over...

why are you guys trying to hurt my brain......so while your doing it anyhow....please explain quantum mechanics.....i still dont get it.......it blows my wittle mind....and be kind....useing big words will only confuse me. If there is anyway to give some sort of example you can compare it to...that I perhaps can grasp.....dont tell me Iam on a need to know basis.
