It'll be completely subsided within the week, if not in the next 2-3 days.

If you'd like to know more about it, send me an im :)

Okay, I've been reading about them all over the forums. They're the flavor of the week I guess. Luckily I haven't encountered them directly.

My main question though - who are these SA Goons?

I mean - What does SA stand for?

Oops, I think my naivete may be showing. ;)

People seem to be judging all who visit the Something Awful forum as bad people, when in reality they consist of different types of people from all over the world.

I think some of you just enjoy fighting and are creating a big conflict out of thin air.

It is really bad when an entire group of people are regarded negatively based on the actions of a small minority within that group.

Now, am I defending the Furries or the SA peeps?

Ah the irony.

I'll tell you what's been created out of thin air:

Conflicts so serious places have shut down, turn off scripts and building, and banned everyone who isnt the owner from the land.

A hojillion pictures of something so horrible I shudder to think of it, created in PG sims, over harmless areas.

A hoard of people who think harassing anyone who wears an animal AV is just peachy.

Signs over homes of SLers know to be gay that are decidedly anti-gay in nature, some quite hatefull.

If the rest of you SAers dont want to be painted with the same brush, try distancing yourself from these people. Leave the SA Goons group. Hell, actually admit that what some of your members are doing crosses many, many bounds of decency.

Don't act all holier-than-thou when you have made no attempt to do any of that.

Each person should be judged according to their own actions.

A 39-year-old female from Estonia should not be punished because of the actions of a 17-year-old male from America, just because they frequent the same Internet forum.

Forums got nothin' ta do with it, far as I am concerned. It the actions of the SA group in game.

A group in game is a group of people who choose to be assosiated with each other. You dont join a group then say "I don't want to be considered part of this group".

I am NOT judging folks by what forums they visit. I visited the SA.com web site myself. My judgement has been based souly on actions I have seen in SL by members of SA Goons, and some of the posts they have made. And yes, I do tend to judge other members of SA Goons by the actions of the folks I have seen. Maybe it's wrong, but folks have a tendancy to judge folks by the company they keep.

Reading the SA forums, the vast majority of posters have indeed come into SL just to cause a ruckus.

I'll post some choice quotes when I get home from work, if they don't shut their yap.

I'm sure there's a bunch of underagers in there too.

yeah that was the impression I got too. I don't think they really honestly think anyone wearing an animal av in SL is into bestiality. I reckon they all just think it's hilarious to get us all up in arms about it and it's working. They are probably posting screenies and laughing about it over on their forum that you have to pay $10 just to view *sigh* I say...Report them for abuse if they harrass anyone here then ignore it, but don't give attention to the attention seekers.

One; I am with you on this. There are two sides to every story, his side, her side, and the truth. Lets not throw everyone to the wolves because of the actions of one or two ppl.

Unfortunatly, by this point, it has gone beyond "one or two people".

I think she was using a figure of speech, and it was an accurate one. There are 30 thousand accounts on the somethingawful forums. There are maybe 50 people tops that actually downloaded and played this game, and *maybe* 10 of those are actually causing any trouble. You can't really judge every single member from that few people.

I'm not judging *anyone* on the SA forums. What they want to do there, is their own buisness. I'm only concerned with the ones causing trouble here.

Thank you Drakkus, your right. It was a figure of speech.

Not everyone from SA is here to cause trouble. Several people from SA already had pre-existing accounts, and others are actually trying to give the game a fair chance. The problem is that both types of people are getting banned.

I wasn't trying to condemn or defend the SA peeps. I was just responding to the irony of some of them saying "Don't judge our entire group by the perceived actions of a few" when that seems to be exactly what they are doing to people with anthro avs.

And once again, I'll make this point : When a person or a group (I'm not speaking of SA forum members, but more of the subgroup SA Goons) Openly comes out and says that their entire purpose to playing is to harass and see what they can stir up, then why can't these people be banned permanently?

If someone announces plans to kill people, we don't wait to see if they actually Are going to do it - we take preemptive measures.

Yeeesh.

How many times and in how many threads do I have to say this?

I don't *care* about those people. Not one bloody bit.

What I *do* take issue with is the "holier than thou" attitude a lot of these 'innocent' people take...

Plain and simple: If you dont want to be tarred with the same brush as the troublemaker SA goons, leave the SA Goons group, and publicly condem/renounce them as having any effect on you. All I have seen so far is some "but, man, that's not fair, i didn't do anything to you..." statements.

Come out and say, "I have left the SA goons. What some of them are doing is wrong, and I don't wish to be assosiated with that". THEN you can say "Don't assosiate me with them". Right now, you are trying to have your cake and eat it too.

So if a group has over 100 members and a few of them cause trouble, every single group member is supposed to leave and state that they aren't affiliated or be punished?

You're being ridiculous.

Why not kick those members out then? The ones that havn't been banned? Instead, they do all this stuff under the tag of the group.

Yes, believe it or not, you do get labled by who you assosiate with. Both in the real world and here.

In a group of over 100 members, would you be able to constantly identify each and every member who breaks the rules? First you verify this before kicking them out.

Being labelled by who you associate with doesn't sound a whole lot different to profiling, racism, or discrimination to me.

In the real world, people get raped, beaten, and killed constantly, but that doesn't make it right and it doesn't support your argument or make it right just because others do it.

Just because other people do these things in the real world doesn't give you an excuse to do it. People should rise above that.
