Candy,

I can assume Blake is SUSPENDED, not banned, yes? He will be back soon enough. It is unfortunate that he got caught up in this, but griefing in retaliation is not a solution, nor is a kneejerk reaction to move functionality from scripts. As Siggy points out, it is impossible to tell a gun from other types of scripts, and you would cripple a lot of legitimate use.

Getting rid of something because of its potential for abuse is never a solution - instead we need additional controls to help us manage situations where abuse can occur. For example, we need the ability to disable pushing of avatars on a plot by plot basis - and restrict push capabilities in that instance to only scripts owned by the land owner (so elevators could still work, but guns couldn't hit you). There are always options - the kneejerk one is never ever the right one.

At least you have a suggestion. And yes kneejerk reactions may not be necessary, but I can tell you this; if iam attacked in real life I will defend myself to eliminate the threat to me or any Citizen.

Where I come from, if someone pulls a gun, then I pull a gun, we both go to jail.

Blake pulled a gun, and used it. His intentions were good, but his actions were bannable.

Next - shooting a bullet = rezzing and object - same thing a lot of other scripts do .. once again I ask 'how do you tell between the two to know what is a weapon and what isn't?'

Siggy, you're not hearing the voice of the people here, as long as you have been in the game. It's not about making scripts and scripting central to the game, which is your belief system. It's about a different belief and value system, which puts clubs, socializing, housing, etc. at the center.

All you can do is tell us that scripting, the thing that makes the water go in the hot tub, is the same thing that makes bullets, and guns don't kill people, people kill people. Well, baloney, this isn't RL, it's SL.

We can appreciate what scripting has brought us without having to go overboard and to the extreme where we're never supposed to meet a script we don't like. Just because you can't do everything, doesn't mean you can't do something.

I advocated banning the bounce scripts and making a few arrests -- this prompte and outpouring of hate and sycophantism over the proposal to make sliders.

Others have other scripts they want disciplined -- and why not? The Lindens show in their police blotter a good deal of case involving unlawful shooting. That shows they care. But I'm thinking arrests aren't enough. More concerted action has to be taken.

You have to listen to the voice of other people who don't worship scripting or practice scripting as you do and who are not counted among the scripterati.

Scripters themselves should be at the forefront of the movement to rid the world of the pernicious versions of their product, and not be laissez faire on this matter.

There isn't a llShootGun() script function. SL really can't tell the difference between shooting a gun and ringing a bell.

Hmmm. How to vote.

For vigilantes and griefers to be able to battle it out, or for following the TOS and calling Linden when there is an outlaw griefer. Hmmm.

I'm going to go with NO, against the wild wild west.

Gee, its hard to be pro-good-citizenship when you make that sound so pro-griefer.

 Blake Rockwell has been banned for retaliating agains't a Griefer that came into La Vie En Rose Club in Rue d'Alliez. It's time for lindens to step up agains't Griefers and put in ban Gun Scripts from Community Sims. Gun should only be allowed in Combat Sims. It's time to Step or Shut up agains't griefer retaliation!!

I need to find the link to where you petition for new policy regarding this issue. This is an inconvenience to good SL Citizens getting blown Sims away for no reason!

I think this is just totally wrong. The property owner made no complaint against Blake, and that is what ought to determine who gets punished. It would be one thing if the griefer got punished too, but I'll bet he didn't.

I don't know if you drive a car in the real world, so this may or may not be applicable.

How do you deal with technicians when your car has a problem? Do you accuse them of being part of a mystic cabal of technerati and demand that they fix your car for free? Do you question every word they say, despite not actually understanding any of it?

And you will pay the legal consequences as such.

You can be sued/arrested for injuring a burglar entering your house.

Solution:

preferences -> avatar -> max allowed push threshold (numerical input, default to say ... 50,000 or thereabouts)

Oh, FYI -
my Colt 45s have a push mode. Each and every time a user activates it, it prompts them to agree to use the Colt 45 in a way that abides by the T.O.S.

I balked for a while at even adding a push, but I feel this is a reasonable compromise.

I don't know what the full story is here and I'm sorry to hear of the troubles in this, but a problem with retaliation is that it tends to escalate aggression (bigger guns, better bullets, etc. like that ep. of Itchy & Scratchy). The times I've checked before when I was bombed in a club or sandbox, I've been encouraged by Lindens to file an Abuse Report as well as discourage other friends from firing back. I own a number of guns for ornamental fun and the occasion of pushing phys. blocks, but not zapping fellow avatars unless it's fully consensual.

The issue of "club security" and things like that clouds things up because then the greefer can always AR the other shooter and say "well, he shot me too, we're both in the wrong!" After all, PvP Abuse is going to show up on the greefer kin's screen and they'll prolly peg the other party for it... scorched virtual earth! :O

One VERY thankful thing here is that you won't likely suffer permanent damage from being blasted away. :) It is definitely unwanted and awfully annoying tho.

OK, so how about telling us what you think is the solution to this problem? In plain English, without any grandiose allusions to what "the people" want. Concrete.

Wow. I've seen some biased polls on the forums, but this one takes the cake.

And frankly, I don't care what the story is. The fact that Blake Rockwell got banned (and I guess you mean suspended, since if it was a ban he's never coming back) is funny as hell. I don't really care what the reason is - that just cheered me up no end :D

(snipped bullshit for berevity)

No Prok - I'm hearing one voice -- the voice of the banned party - and yours..

I'm telling you - plainly and factually - the functions of the script that make a bullet appear are the self same that will rez water in a tub - this is fact. Not baloney - fact.

As for guns not killing people - or people killing people - and all that malarky - I didn't say any of that, you just did. If (as per usual) you can't make your point without trying to put words into my mouth or basing your point in fact - then perhaps you should try a different approach with your argument. Maybe one based on things you know about.

Thank you.

Siggy.

First of all two wrongs dont make a right. someone bombs a club, you get the owner to remove them, there are alot of way to remove. ban list, security systems. all is reasonable. But for a player to take it in their own hands is injust. Its not an eye for a eye. It's a report system, use it wisely. I mean common, you post a poll about a guy who is one of the biggest scam artists in second life. Eventually he would have got banned when more people realised he only shapes bodies, and doesn't do actual skins like most his female clients have been told. so he got busted for something else first. drop it, move on, people get banned every day. weapons should not be used at all, let alone in retaliation. grow up. griefers will always be a part of sl, thats what pvp is for, report and learn to live with it

There are three sides to every story. Right, wrong and reality.

Reality is, two wrongs don't make a right. Fight guns with guns, both get banned.

Blake meant well, however noble, but he had to be banned too. It's the rules.

The rules need to be changed.

I don't know what you've been told but Blake never claimed to make skins and he tells the clients up front and so do I and there's vendors with shapes in them and it states specifically "Skins Not Included!" Your attempt at degredating Blake or Candy and "Bodys by Blakes" has no validity. We spefically tell the clients we shape the body and recommend the best skins and hair/assessories in Secondlife for the look they want to achieve. Me and Blake sometimes spend 4 to 6 hours on one shape, try duplicating a Celebrity Face and perfectly proportioned shape one time and you'll know the value of shaping and the work alone involved. And also we have never worked on you as a client unless you used an alt account.

This is a ridiculously biased poll and should serve as an embarassment to the original poster.

Guns and their usage are already banned in community areas.

I refuse to dignify this tripe by voting on it.

Banned yes, capability of being pushed still yes; there needs to be an option for AV's for "No Push", it there? No. Is it possible? I don't know im not a scripter, but I would think the option could be put in for each individual AV. That is a developer issue. But im sure the scripters that make guns will not agree with it.
