I know all of you get something out of secondlife and im curious what it is that keeps you here and makes you enjoy this place?
For me its the ability to communicate with people no matter how screwed up my work schedule is and be able to meet people from all walks of life. I also am amazed with this company how many companys have you seen with a client base this size be so personal? it doesnt happen very often these days but LL still has the mind set and its very possiable that within the first week of you playing this game you will have already had a full blown conversation with a linden. Another thing that i enjoy about this place is that it is my world and it goes how i see fit. If i do not want the sun to come up one day it doesn't (it boost my ego to be able to control my world) but even though its my world what is even more amazing is that its everyones world but still there own personal world at the same time.. does that make any sense? I could go on and on for days about why i am here and what i like to do here and why i like to do it but i want to here why you are here and what you like to do and why? So please share!

It stops me having to deal with annoying people (ie, pretty much all people.. can't stand the things) in the flesh. SL has a number of advantages in that way; if I don't like you or don't feel like tolerating you I can mute you, ban you, teleport you home etc. If you're being a complete fucktard I can report you and the 'police' will actually DO something. Sometimes. Which is better odds than RL. I can cut you out of my life completely and choose never to deal with you again.
In real life, the fuckers are always in your face and there is nothing much you can do about it, except lock yourself indoors and play Second Life instead.

hmm well my reasons have changed. When I first started I used to go dancing in clubs etc. Been away from SL for over a month and now I'm back I'm happy to sit on my bit of Uli mountain with the view of a eagle soaring in the distance, the river, my neighbours have landscaped quite a lot of the mountain so I look out on streams and trees and flowers. It makes me happy.
Have my dog Arthur who guards my land and nudges visitors till they fall off virtually lol. At the moment I am here for peace and tranquility.

I just have to say that even though this is my job (that I love) I really enjoy the continuous creativity, it's truly exciting after almost 2 years now seeing NEW things being made that amaze me, make me laugh and give me a little insight on just how wonderful people can be. Thank you SL people. =))

I didn't actualy read any of the posts here except for a few sentances innevitably while scrolling down the page. However, joke:
It makes me breakfast after a hot, hot, steamy night of pasionate love making.
It also slices, dices, steams, parfets(sp), julians, etc. my food items.
I've contributed nothing here, I believe my work is done. *jumps into the air and flies off with a salute/wave of his hand*

SL used to take up a lot of my time and endergy; now, not so much. I started creating content for myself, began selling it to others, then began making stuff mostly to sell to others. Until I realized that, as a part-time job, SL just doesn't pay me enough for my time spent (in comparison to the salary I'm used to making). I also used to try to keep up with what was going on in-world, but now there's so much stuff I just don't care about.
SL is fun and an atmosphere that obviously allows a lot of creativity. It's great to see some larger-scale entertainment venues being pursued in SL, I think it's a perfect application for that. But will SL ever have any more "serious" ventures? Philip likes to talk about millions of people being in SL someday. What will all these people do, after they've bought their prim hair and shoes, and clothing and cars, have ridden on the rollercoasters and danced at the clubs and built a textured cube house or two? Is there enough in SL to keep people around long-term?
I find it heartening that visionary people like Pierre Omidyar are interested in the future of SL. I'd love it if some visionaries (or Lindens) would share some of their ideas about what SL could eventually evolve into, beyond the realm of short-term entertainment. Right now, I could turn off my computer and never log back in to SL again, and my life really wouldn't be all that much the worse for it. Is there a future time when that won't be the case?

Greetings all.... For me, SL is not a game per say, its an experiance an a half (Just like RL). I have been around a long time, well before PC's were ever invented let alone Video Games. I have played TONS of games an have a very good collection of old games on my "Commedor 128" even an have played a few Multiplayer games in the past. Jedi Outcast & Academy, Halo, Planetside, Neverwinter Nights, Delta Force, SWG, an most recently TSO......... I have also "Modded" quite a few of them an so far out of everything I have researched an experianced, SL is the most amazing of the bunch (to me anyways). It is a "creators Paradice" in the extream an the respect that the "powers that be" show to the players is nothing but outstanding. Just the oposit is true in TSO....... For me, its the: "open ended creativity", the friendly people, all the sexy sims, the adult content, the 18+ rule to play the game, the parties, and the potential to not only learn new things daily but also be able to effect the game (an its players) itself by teaching others an creating stuff which can change the way SL is played....... In the Real World, one person can do something that effects the entire planet, if hes the right person.......... SL is the only game I know of which has that same ability....... That alone is a God send to many people who have very inadiquate (in their opinion) lives in the real world..... Games can be theriputic to some in so many ways.......... Never more is that true as it is for SL....... There are many reasons (specific an otherwise) which people play SL and love the game, but do you know what the #1 reason is generally speaking? Its because Second Life is a GREAT game.......... Period.......... An with those words an final thoughts, I bid you all a very fond adu............ An as always................ Peace....................... Adam.................

I've talked about this at great length before, and in a nutshell ("this is me in a nutshell!" , I have much gratitude and thankfulness for being here, and having fun with my fellow avatars in Second Life. I could make some sort of an ecclesiastical testimonial as to why I like SL on the whole so much, but in this case -- more words are not necessary. *smiles bigtime*

YES YES YES! Sooo true... there's the whole aspect of sharing in SL. An exchange of creative ideas. In singleplayer computer games, I never liked much that the computer wouldn't really be impacted emotionally by anything I did, but on SL, it's an entirely different game. ("Game" used loosely, of course.)

Absolutly.. I did remember something else though....... Another reason is because this is the FIRST game I have played in which actuall "Artist" in the Real World (painters, sculpturs, ect) can come an express themselves and show off their talents in many ways...... I know of three in the game right now alone! That alone would draw me into the game........... Peace.............. Adam.............

For me it's a giant, ever changing amusement park full of interesting people and things to see and do. Plus I can build any crazy thing that pops into my head. Whoohoo!

I enjoy the collaboration, the community feel, and the cool factor SL has. It's a pretty phenomenal thing and there are always new projects stemming up. I like that it's not a game because frankly, a lot of video games are boring.

This just amazes me.. this place has something to do for everyone and there are so many things to do its not even funny. I am convinced you could line 10 people up and they would all say they like something diff then the next guy about this place you could also take those same people line them up and they will all say they like atleast one of the same things the next guy does.. its like a full cycle!

I can have lots of girlfriends and they cant slash my tires when they find out. Boyfriends cant break my nose when they catch me messing around with their woman. I can jump off of really high building and not die.
Basically, it lets me be myself without all of the danger.

From: Beryl Greenacre Philip likes to talk about millions of people being in SL someday. What will all these people do, after they've bought their prim hair and shoes, and clothing and cars, have ridden on the rollercoasters and danced at the clubs and built a textured cube house or two? Is there enough in SL to keep people around long-term? I know how you feel Beryl, I have been feeling this way myself lately. I've always thought that even after we've done and seen nearly everything, the one thing that would still hold interest is the social connections we've made. Unfortunately it seems like that doesn't scale well with a rapidly growing population. I don't feel the sense of "community" that we once had. Now I just feel more or less empty. It seems like most of the people I knew have taken refuge in the various islands and corners of the world. I went to a couple of large events recently, and I couldn't even count the number of times I heard a pair of poeple remark that they hadn't seen each other in a long time, even though both of them still logged in quite regularly. SL has grown from a small town to a medium-sized city, where before we used to know each other and what everyone was up to (what projects they're working on, how their RL is going, etc). Nowadays, most of the people we meet are unfamiliar. I can often walk through a busy area without knowing anyone at all. Few people say hello to newbies or strangers, let alone know what they're up to and ask them how their projects/RL are coming along. SL is becoming just like real life cities above a certian size, where the trend is that everyone starts to blend in with each other, assuming silent anonymimity in those rare times when they have to cross paths with strangers on their way to their own little dive in some corner of the grid. We've lost the "Cheers" feeling in our community. Or maybe it's just me.

I enjoy SL for that "babies in box" joke that I don't quite understand but still pretend to be in on.
