I've been in SL since May but I still don't feel like I fit in :-) (Don't worry it's not a long depressing post, heh!) I don't make textures or design clothes and I don't build...I'm just an explorer...So bonding with others is tricky ;) So tell me, where have all the outcasts gone? ;)

No idea where they hide... but you're always welcome in Mocha.

... but she does crash a lot, so if you're quick you might make it through.

HEY NIMUE!!!

HIYA!!! :D Ahhh I am the same in you in that I don't really "create" anything -- I may dabble once in awhile, sure, but eh... I like to explore!

One AMAZING thing about Second Life, to me, are the catalytic chain reactions that get set up and escalate along the way. You might not be able to see it at first, but it happens if you step forward enough.

I was born introvert and "outcast" -- that personality classification may now be obsolete :) but I can tell ya, beautiful friendships may start with the smallest steps. I have friends who are creative masterminds in SL. I got to know some of them by commenting on their products (I may have been intrigued by the quality or a certain humorous aspect) and sending them an Instant Message, hoping to chat some more. Soon, IMs led to inworld meetings, which led to craaazy fun. Others, I came to know through Group parties at clubs... meaning it wasn't just a "regular" night out at a club, but some sort of themed event where a collective rowdy band of digerati (or such-and-such) showed up. I'm always up for a sparking conversation full of ideas and progressive power. Certain topics pique my interest and I can't help but join in! Also, I have made friends through other Events on the schedule, such as trivia and Thinkers discussions. There are so many; it really is diverse.

As for other explorers, there are sites you can go to like parks (Waterhead and surrounding sims) and come across interesting people in the forests, time to time. Sandboxes are cool too, if someone's not too busy when building and you wanna ask them questions! Or similarly, if someone LEFT something in a sandbox -- you can do the sweet shebang of IMing them about it and hopefully meeting up later. A lot of people, places, and things are highlighted in New World Notes, which I recommend you read if you aren't already doing so! And you know that goldmine-of-transients, the Welcome Area? You'll occasionally come across an intriguing conversation that you can join into, time to time, if you hang out there long enough. Heck, you'll begin to notice people who are a staple of said Area. That familiarity is going to help you ease in!

A beautiful friendship may start with the following words:

"Hello <insert name here> :)"

And in my case, smiley face included.

Cheerio! :D

I'm going to turn this post over to someone who is arguably Second Life's biggest introvert. This guy flips me the finger every time I fly over his land. Without further ado, I present The Ol' Man on the Mountain. The following is his opinion, and not my own.

You wanna know who th' biggest intro-vert is? I'll tell ya. Its none of yur damn biz-ness! We intro-verts don' want shit to do wif you explorers an yur explorin! Next thing ya know, busloads of you explorers start commin around, with yur damn hippie Beatle music, Mc-guvin politics an pants wearin lez-beeins.

If I evah catch enny explorers on my land, theys gonna get a ass fulla buckshot from my boomstick, ya hear? Ima intro-vert, not a welcome evryone on my land guy. Stay the hell away!

(Spits tobacco from his 5 tooth mouth and leaves in a huff. Flashes the finger at Teeny again.)

I hide in my little beach refuge of Prainha, all the way at the end of the world.

It is usually only the sun, the sand, the sharks, and me in the whole sim.

So you are welcome to come and explore, but don't stay too long! :D

ps. Bikini wearing tourists are always welcomed!

Are you going to find SL introverts and outcasts on the forum? Outcasts, maybe, but true introverts?

Just a question with a big smile. :)

Heh, we are all on a continuous spectrum with no discreet "breaks".

Would we find "absolute" introverts on SL, period? ;)

Come to Gypsy Moon where a pirates adventure is in the works. You can explore the caves, waterfalls and waterways. You can ride a pegasus down a spiral mountain and explore a shipwreck with a hidden underwater cave. Camp out in the huts and tents.

I dind't know that not being artistic made someone an introvert. Anyway, if you want to meet some nice people, you're welcome in Indigo. We're nice folks and you won't have to build anything to prove your worth (We may ask you to sacrifice a goat or something, but only if it's a full moon ;) ).

Our actual residents are all builders and designers (land owners tend to be since building is a huge reason to actually own land), but we have lots of regular visitors who just like to hang out. I think they actually started a group, Indigo's Bastards, or something like that, hehe. Come on by some time.

Oh we're here, us introverted, exploratory, non content creators, lol, just staying in character and keeping quiet :D

Well I for one am in the South East corner of Dacia, that's my particular chosen refuge and hiding place - damn, just let that secret out, lol. Nice and quiet, so feel welcome to swing by and enjoy some peace and quiet anytime :) *hugs*

Dee, that was a bit of a broad statement.

Leet code ninjas tend to be introverted, but without us SL would be a boring place ;P

You could always start a group, "Introverts" or something. I would, but then I'd have to go recruit 3 people to keep it alive, and I already had to do that once with the Seattle group. :/

Dee, that was a bit of a broad statement.

Well that's what happens when I post in the middle of night after imbibing too much Xmas spirits - port and cognac in this case ;) Kind of inaccurate too, now I come to think of it, even in my own case, as I do build in my own haphazard, chaotic sort of a way... :D

Nimue... (what a beautiful name - 'the lady of the lake'), I know what you mean, it's sometimes easy to feel you're 'on the outside' not fitting in - I repeatedly do from time to time, but it's simply a case of engaging in (any sort of) conversation with people, and if it doesn't really work out, just fly right on to the next encounter - it's your Second Life after all, the world's huge and somewhere there are bound to be like minded people. Sometimes also, you'll meet people who inspire you, for whatever reason, to be something quite different to what you might normally be. That too is an exciting part of the experience, it's certainly happened for me. I'm not the worlds greatest conversationalist, but I've found that sometimes, just hanging out with people for a while starts the ball rolling, and before you know it you find yourself getting to know them better....

There's some great folks out there... only last night I was flying around alone, and unexpectedly spotted somebody down on the ground I'd been meaning to catch up with. I love the spontaneity here :) So I guess my real answer would be - they're scattered all over - just say 'Hi' and find out....

*scratches head*

Err....if a bunch of introverts/outcasts got together as a group, once the group got large enough, wouldn't they cease to be introverts/outcasts?

As for myself...I'm generally puttering around on my land coming up with some oddball creation or another. Sometimes with a certain shapely sidekick, other times just off on my own.

He, he. I was about to say that. Us introverts hang out in quiet dark places where no one can find us

So go away! :p
