What you think is funny, I (and others) happen to find disgusting, offensive, and insulting, off topic, and always completely hijacking.

This forum is for discussing general ideas about SecondLife.

Not parading around like a bunch of clowns.

Ban the Proks, yes, but ban ALL of the offensive, hijacking, off topic people.

I've said it time and time again. The only difference between Prok and some of the other people around here (not naming names) is that his ideas were not popular.

Moderate these forums so that we exude an aura of civility and I guarantee we will attract civil people.

Keep letting people post what can easily be construed as insulting, offensive, and off topic forum posts and we will continue to attract insulting, offensive and off topic posters.

That thread was not appropriate (humor aside) because it was obviously targeted at specific individuals. It is the equivalent of pouring salt in the wound of a sensitive forum issue I think the great majority of forum participants would like to simply see come to an end.

Yeah, I read it after it was edited. Sorry about that! I am just used to seeing explanations of why something was edited.

I was worried that threads like this were a no-no!

Its okay Willow, I love ya!

I also really like fudge.

I also think posts like Morse remind us all what is most important: SL is entertainment, and laughter is better than pills for what ails ya.

I agree, I think a humor forum would be an awesome idea!!

A place where Panda and friends can post all day. I think that would be very very cool.

Brilliant suggestion, Panda!
Yes...A PIC forum (P)anda (I)n (C)rowd :D

I'm going to respond real quick after only reading the first post. I promise you I'll read the other responses when I'm done. But, I wanted to address the original post by Panda before I get sidetracked.

I too laughed at it Panda. Of course I also laughed at our poor King getting a thread locked after months of not posting. hehe.. but that is another story. :p

Honestly though, the links he posted all went to one person. Or the "perception" that the three names are one in the same. Therefore, it would fall under the policy of "starting a thread to 'attack' a single person".

That is my thought on why it was closed. Funny or not, I knew it was going to be closed the minute I read it. :p

Not all, Willow. You have a style of civility, compromise, understanding and balance. While obviously you disagree you do not do it in a disagreeable way.

There are a lot of people around here who show none of these traits, and that's why we simply attract more people like them.

Sure Prok was annoying to the extreme, but that's because he saw a lot of annoying people in these forums so he (reasonably) thought it was an all out flame fest.

The fact that it wasn't any one individual who was bad as Prok is irrelevant.

The sum of the lynch mobs / witch hunts / black-white mentalities .. equalled the outlines of a living, moving, massive Prokish-Type monster that had its own characteristics made up of many posters instead of just one or two.

The solution is simple. Moderate the forums into civility - otherwise more Proks will simply be attracted to the mud and muck that is SecondLife.

Yes, that is why we all have the ability to think. But thanks for reminding me!

I think that parading around like a bunch of clowns is the most relevent concept within SL.

I never mentioned banning anyone. But thanks for the agenda!

Great, say it time and time again. Keep on saying it. Look through my posts, blaze. I am not malicious. I do not fling sweeping accusations in a hurtful manner.

You are not the only person who loves new ideas. I honestly don't even understand Prok's ideas. I can't get past the venom. He publically declared a war. That is not an idea.

Can I make a doody joke now?

Fair enough, Panda.. You do not have malicious intent.

Truthfully, I'm not so sure Prok did either.

Unfortunately, the volume of his off topic / hijacking posts started to give us all the impression of malicious intent.

Similarly, when someone is trying to have a serious conversation and someone else simply posts a message with an image which is a parody or a completely off topic response, then we all feel like our sincerity is not being taken seriously or respected and it starts to feel like malicious intent.

This can be quite hurtful when you truly believe in what you are saying. Once or twice, it's ok, but when it's thread after thread after thread and it always seems to be done by a certain core set of practical jokesters... well, it can be very demoralizing.

So when people like Prok come along, those of us who are sincere and are interested in discussing SL seriously, we tend to 'give him his head' in hopes that the 'forums' around here will get as good as they are giving.

I guarantee this will happen again and again until finally someone realises that civility and respect needs to rule the day around here.

Once that happens, none of us will have any desire or need to bring in the Proks and launch them like social scud missiles in hopes of getting a little revenge.

I hope you can appreciate and respect the sincerity of what I'm trying to say here.

Absolutely. And I appreciate it.

Take a look at when I post a picture though. It is usually after name-calling or general nastiness. It is meant as a silly way to plug the smoke-from-ears frustration that people fall into when arguing against attacks.

I even created a group within SL dedicated to doing that. The (F)orum (I)n
(C)rowd. Check out our charter.

Yeah, and I think your intentions are great.

Quite frankly, I know what you're trying to do. You're trying to moderate these forums into a certain aura of civility and respect, and that's awesome. Basically trying to do what the Lindens will not.

Unfortunately, the only tactic that is truly effective is thread closure, message deletion, message editting, and forum banning. All the rest just seem to rile everyone else up.
