Hiya, I'm doing some research into identifying cool 10-min experiences out there in SL. Particularly, things that newbies would find a lot of fun. Along with my own research into this, I'd like to get some ideas from people here. Yes, these can be things that other Residents have created, such as little games, activities, and interesting areas/builds to explore. But I am also including things that are just fun experiences in general. Like "try snowboarding in the snow sims" or "check out the coral reefs and fish off the coast." The only stipulations are...it's gotta be fun for newbies and it's gotta be something you can do in 10 min. Thanks, -Pathfinder

Path, as a newbie, one of my favorite activities was going and trying out Cubey Terra's demo aircraft. The Abbotts Aerodrome is a great place for sampling demo aircraft, as there's plenty of open space in nearby sims: The sandboxes close by, plus the vehicle sims just to the northeast.

Space Rocks Of Death on Green Fate's Sim is fun, and a good example of what can be done with clever scripting and a good imagination. I've forgotten the name of the Sim, exactly, (Terantulas??) so I'll edit this later when I'm in world and can look it up. Great game though.

Have to check out bowling and miniature golf on Spittoonie (oh wait...took me 20 minutes on the first hole, but I'm spatially challenged!)

Check out this thread on New User Tours In SecondLife: /108/0b/44282/1.htmlI think a ride on the trolley in Boardman lasts less than ten minutes. Try going at night and you'll get all the cool street lamp effects.

I've had fun with all of the above. And, GO TO NEO-REALMS FISHING CAMP Alston (43, 87) go fishing. Literally. Tip about snowboarding in snow sims: ask the super Ben and Eric for a copy of the free Linden snowboard and boots, 'cuz I wasn't able to find a dispenser around there. MAYBE YOU SHOULD SET ONE UP?!?!!?!?!11111123 I'd share mine but I modded my only pair already and they are watermelony. I encourage newbies to visit old, old sims to get a good history lesson. Visit Welsh and CLIMB STELLER'S BEANSTALK or go to Natoma and and feel the chronostream hit ya. Some of the funnest things are of a commercial nature -- but not even to shop, just to look around and admire creations. Like Karamel Madison's kitchen, tell newbies to see Umber before it's gone in its current state -- what an institution! Geesh there's tons I'm missing here, all the stuff I did. It must be on my blog. LOL. GO TO TACO SIM A must-see for newbies. etcetcetc

Prokofy's posts are also excellent vocabulary builders. My most recent gem from Prok is "bruited", used to great effect in the "Your RL Personal Information" thread. I'm personally waiting for the November release of his Word-a-Day in SL Calendar.

Foot Massage at the Spa
05-10-2005 18:23
We started offering shorter massages for people on time/Linden budgets at the Spa. For as little as $15 someone can get a 10 minute virtual footrub. (very relaxing. Hey! if 'healing touch' can work, why not SL image/energy work?!? ) Gato House usually has an art gallery running. That's pretty nifty. Also, I loved walking around the big desk drawer telehub of Backstage (and crawling in the hole of the chaircushion. priceless to be a little person in a big big world. hehe)

Well, this place has a lot of sexballs so it may not be the best thing for a new user, but the Naughty Sim is just BEAUTIFUL! City Girls go there a lot to take location photos because the texturing is so pretty.

I had some fun up near my house on the Northern Continent when I found out that a Linden had actually put a train engine on the tracks. It was fun to ride, and even more fun trying to land on it and ride on the top. Plus there's a nice view.

--There used to be a volcano you could jump into, and it would pitch you out somewhere. Does anybody know if that is still there?
--I think the Moth Swarm that we've been doing Saturdy nights at the Moth Temple in Iris is really cool. We just gather at the temple, lay some sacrifices out which are eaten by the merciless god Autoreturn, then Osprey Therein hands out free moth wings and feelers, and we all go swarming around the new continent, occasionally stopping and laying dwell eggs LOL. You can come and go for as short or as long as you want, it seems to last about 40 minutes before everyone gets lost or ends up in a sweater LOL.
-- Ice-skating at Pituca's Chang's island
--Exploring Atlantis
--Flying up to the top of Marxos' ARMORD building and back down again.
--Pick a sandbox and watch what people are building or doing in one
-- Watch the train wrecks in Obscure (way more fun than sitting home and watching the paint peel!)
--One of my personal favorites is visting Margot Abbatoir's waterfalls at Ravenglass Island, they are like Niagara falls.

Buy an outfit at Gecko and go dancing at a club.
(I did this the second day I logged in, and it was a blast, other than figuring out how to get the clothing out of the box.)
Now I think watching my av dance is completely pointless, but when I first joined it was a real hoot.
The rags I bought at Gecko my second day are still my standard outfit.
Trivia event is fun too.
What NOT to do in your first 10 minutes: try to script, build, or play tringo.

My best noob experience was going to a hige furniture shop and puking all over EVERYTHING. I just got one of those pukers that, you know, pukes and leaves a puddle. I puked on the beds, in the fountians, on couches, everywhere. I have some screenshots if you want some, IM me ingame.

cool 10-min experiences in SL
05-10-2005 21:26
Land at "Easy Street !" in Olopue and bring your car, or take a copy of the free bike in the parking lot. Madly race thru the 1/4 sim of runways, or take the tunnel under the runway and into the drive thru dance club, casino, particle lab, game and skydiving levels. Then come back when you have more time. Test your aircraft and vehicle builds. Get a game going on the Settlers of SL tables. (or the Hold'em tables.) Learn how to use the particle lab. Check out the UFO shop and visit the neighbor's stores... -Easy Wheeling

The Mecede Skate Park (Mecede 145,70) is alot of fun. It's a huge structure with ramps and obstacles. The roller skates cost 50L though, which is cheap but maybe not for someone on a free trial.

I will ask about Naughty tonight. I am not a memeber of a special group associated with the sim.
