I was thinking of running a guide tour event, where basically I took people around secondlife to show them the best of the very best.
Say the event lasted an hour, what stops would you put on the way?

Seacliff. Montmatre. Spitooney. Rose. Welcome Area. The Second Orientation villa (forget the sim for this). Abbots. And several areas of the "New Continent."

Ok, also, what would you show them in particular about those places that would evoke their imagination and fascination with SecondLife?
For example, one idea I had was a trolley ride in Boardman (heh) though I'd be a little nervous about the trolley bouncing everyone due to SL issues. Maybe a short game of tringo. A hand of texas holdem poker somewhere. I think a quick game of those bumper-car things on the water (where is that again?). Stuff like that. _____________________

Seacliff. Montmatre. Spitooney. Rose. Welcome Area. The Second Orientation villa (forget the sim for this). Abbots. And several areas of the "New Continent." Good picks. The Second Orientation thing, I think you're thinking about Yamato in Dore (North East corner of Dore), which is a good place to get re-refreshed. I'd go with all the different possibilities of SL, as well. Like the City shows a good example of well a possible city, and also the Trolley does rock, but you're right I'm not sure about how it would handle a large group. Spitoonie(ey?) definitly, probably the best Theme Park in SL. New Continent shows LL's latest abilities (build wise, terrain wise, etc.). Also the Ivory Tower as a learning primer as well as high detailed building. The new WA as well as the Waterhead one, just because they look nice. Some of the parks and forests that are around to show the natureistic side of SL. I hear the Atlantis sim is awsome, could be a good place to show off. Taking a tour on one of the Aerodrome's planes or blimps is always a good way to see alot of SL, although it does take some time. Definitly the sandboxen. And perhaps some educational places like the Ivory Tower, The Learning Center, Historical Museum, etc. Also the parks listed by Higbee would be a good place to look for some interisting locations. I think alot of it depends on *who* you're giving a tour too, there are people who would be bored at some places, but not at others, etc. so its good to know your audience and have plenty of options available (which is why I suppose you're asking). ![]() James Miller and Loki Pico, if neither of them post here, might have some good places to go too. _____________________

Seacliff:
- Several Jules Verne-esk builds. - Reitsuki's "Treehouse" concept - The "Castle in the Sky." If someone can remember who created that, I'd appreciate it. - Several of the open art areas spread across the island itself. Montmatre: (AKA Crescent Moon Museum, if I have the sim name right) - Art Gallery of 2D Art (very well done, including some work by Robin Wood, who I believe is registered under the same name in Second Life). - Several pieces by several artists Spitooney: - Going by what I heard here. Let them take a ride/game on the many contraptions hosted here. Rose: - Scenic residential builds. - RW Designs for a bit of furniture shopping - Talen Morgan's Authentic Brewery & Pub, as well as surrounding gardens and houses. - Trip on the "Swan Boats" along the river in Rose. Welcome Area: - Obvious Orientation Villa: - Also obvious Abbotts: (Abbots?) - Abbotts Aerodrome - Bordering sandboxes - Financial centers New Continent: - Several builds have sprung up. Some good, some bad. - Linden Builds Also adding: Backstage and Bordering Sim: - "Larger than Life" build designed by Starax. Amusing, and definitely a must-see. _____________________

The second Orientation area is in Dore IIRC, they're still working on it. Also I'd suggest the Ivory Tower but apparently the top third has been missing for some time.
![]() Beautiful and/or complex builds: Atlantis. Krittania, even if its partially built. Oh, and you'd have to end it with Telador, since it takes much more than an hour to enjoy the place. Heck I spent over five hours on Sunday. ![]() _____________________

The only problem I have with Telador is it's a slug to load. This is the sole downside of a consistent build with a lot of effort (and textures) put into it.
It's a good choice, but technically speaking - I don't think we want to overload the tour group. Woody and Rizpah (the sim owners) have a newer build in Rose displaying their talents in a far more concise manner. Even so, it is worth an eventual trip to see what the residents of Telador, including Woody and Rizpah, put together. _____________________

I guess the way I'd run the tour would be to get everyone in the starting area and then once I have everyone's name and stuff I'd go the next place and TP everyone.
Introduce the place, point out the features, hand out landmarks so people can come back and then let them mess around while I head to the next place to offer TPs. I think 10 minutes per stop would be appropiate, so I'd have to limit it to 6 places. I guess you could have a different theme for each tour. A general theme (the best of the best of the best) A games theme A social / chat theme A mature theme A shopping theme A club theme A land theme (take them to cool places to buy land.. eg, I'd definitely put Aksha on the tour) .. etc Too bad you can't script offer-tp. Hmm, though, now maybe you can .. heh. _____________________

Thats a good idea.
Too bad you can't script offer-tp. Hmm, though, now maybe you can .. heh. Unfortantly I don't think you can. There has been some progress im making objects that go directly to points in a sim, might look on the forum for this or ask around. Tours like this are one large benefit that make a function like llTeleport so desirable... but thats another topic. ![]() _____________________

Still faster than UU. ![]() I've been to Rose (though not recently), definately agree with that. _____________________

Actually, Oz you can. I'm not going to out it in the forums cause it'll create all sorts of craziness, but feel free (or anyone else) to IM me and I'll let you know.

I enjoy doing random tours in my hot air balloon. There's the must see sites, many of my favorites and more mentioned her already, but random flying around almost always reveals a new gem.

Backstage and Nowall is no longer the huge oversized place it was. Its gone to the history pages. But, I would still suggest it as a must see place to visit. It is now a huge sculpture garden featuring the work of Starax and a great place to see how far prim manipulation can be taken.

Wow.
The end of an era, that was an incredible work. It stuns me to think sometimes of the amazing work that comes and goes in SL. The fact that we can't export our parcels is an incredible, incredible shame and the loss of Backstage surely proves that. _____________________

Too bad you can't script offer-tp. Hmm, though, now maybe you can .. heh. This would be the perfect way to use a large vehicle in the shape of a duck like they do in Baltimore. You could sell t-shirts that say "I rode the Duck" or something silly like that. TPing people around will be the only way to do this though. Vehicles are so unbelievably useless for anything but furniture. You would confuse and scare newbies if they fell off the world or you crash landed your vehicle into a building. Besides, I hear that duck vehicle liability insurance is really expensive. |

Yeah, I think this could pretty cool.
It would be nice if we could get free goods which are temporary at each stop (ie, they disappear after a certain amount of time or uses) and free rides (which you have to pay for the next time you come). This way you can really give new users a taste of the possibilities. Maybe end the tour with a short class on how to create something very very simple but very very cool. They key, though, and I can't stress this enough is brain dead simple. No can do approach - you spoon feed the users. The tour would be the 3d immersive equivalent to a GUI wizard. _____________________

Snowboarding in Zermatt! This is pretty fun once you get the hang of it. There are free snow boards by the chair lifts.
I would also recommend: 1. the city sims. Marcos has a neat lounge with free drinks at the bar at the top of the Space Needle in Miramare. They might like that. 2. Atlantis 3. some neat builds, like the SL Library (Lordfly) and Juro's builds in Stillman. He also made a great looking place for Annie Butler, it looks very FLW. I can't remember where it is. Anywho, that would appeal to the architecture buffs. There are so many more... I'll post them when they pop into my head. _____________________

Yah, abbots for sure.. That's always the first place I take people when I'm trying to show off SL.
Heh.. I avoid putting them in a plane though, because that's the first thing that dissapoints. Not your fault of course, it's all LL and lack of Havok2 (I guess) _____________________

Taber!
A Tudoresque sim, very stable, will still be there when you bring your tour. We have a scripted steamer tour, just hop on and it will take you on a tour of Taber. And if you put Montmarte on your list pop over next door to FairChang Island. _____________________

Slootsville has a GORGEOUS dojo, created by Joshua Chaos, that is simly a MUST see, honestly, its a fantastic build, other than the mall, (also built by Josh) we are just a social sim
![]() So Slootsville is always good if you just want to quietly build in the sandbox OR socialise with us crazy sloots!! I would also recommend Sanctum Sanatorium (sp), gorgeous place ![]() _____________________
