I remember my very first post was deleted within minutes by Colin. I created a thread asking the community what strain of marijuana they were smoking. Haha. Good times!

LOL Darko why am I not surprised?
Mine was a thread and it was fairly innocuous; it was an ad for an SL company I used to belong to, RBN Homes. We sold homes that we built, and rented homes and land. _____________________

My first post - was, of course, my request for Land for the Landless. Does that count?
My first thread was, I think, "Thoughts on Land Baroney" in which I went up in dramatic fashion against His Grace^H^H^H^H^H^HStoneself Karuna. Wow, was I wet behind the ears then! _____________________

Here is mine! hehe.. Posted on 10-22-2003
Just jumping in with my knowledge of this issue: First off, yes, in 1.1 you have to go into your clothing boxes, and go to your contents tab. Then right click on each individual item in that outfit and select your preferences. Three preferences that are checked by default are: Allow Next Owner to "COPY", "MODIFY", "TRANSER" item. So if you do not want one or more of these to be allowed, you need to edit all of your clothing that is up for sale. Now... COPYING: This is the same in 1.1 as it was before. If you set your clothing to copy, then anyone can take and distribute copies to anyone else. MODIFYING: Before version 1.1, if you allowed for clothing to be modified, then it was possible for anyone to save the texture and then modify it. This was done by clicking on the texture button (not the color button), then saving the texture to inventory, then saving the texture to "disk" (this downloaded the texture). I found that I was able to do this with the outfits I bought that had "MODIFY" but not "COPY". I did not take advantage of being able to do so, other than to study for my own learning (I have never taken a design or texture from some one elses clothing and used it make my clothing that I sell). I just know it could be done. With version 1.1, this option of saving the texture seems to no longer be an option. So clothing makers, it seems that now it is safe to allow Modifying without the worry that your design and texture can be stolen (if anyone has found otherwise, please let us know!) TRANSFERING: I tried this with a few friends. This is a great option as it lets people give an item away (as a gift, or for whatever reason) and it takes their ONLY copy away. So this is not a case where they are able to keep one for themselves and give an unlimited number away. RE-SELLING: This allows a person to put a price on an object and sell their copy of the object. Once it sells, that person will no longer have the item they bought. This is just like the transfering, only with a price attached. I think someone above described it best when saying that this is like a way for people to clean out their inventory of unwanted items. Its just that this way, they can maybe get their money back, whereas before that was not an option. Hope this helps, and if anyone tests and finds that I'm wrong on any of these points, please let me know! Pendari Lorentz Federal (107, 9) Found here: /120/6f/6062/1.html ![]() _____________________

LOL ![]() That was all of the available formatting options in the previous forum format. I wanted to see a visual of them and thought I would just be able to delete the post when I was done... but no dice! The system wouldn't allow me to delete it (don't remember the particulars of why.) I could probably delete it now, but naw, I'll just leave it there for archival purposes and posterity. ![]() My 1st thread _____________________

I'm not sure of what it was myself, my profile lists a "tip" I gave in the designers forum, but somewhat this doesn't strike me as being "my very first post"... weird.

I can't remember what I 1st posted as a newbie but I remember it was was responded to with " ... " from Moleculor Satyr. But since then I've realized it's his niche here to post stuff like that. So, undaunted, I keep posting nonsense. In fact my last thread was about pea soup.

My first thread came 10 minutes after signing up for my trial...
Service Status Hi I'm brand spanking new at this (10 minutes in world time...) and I apologise if this has been asked before - I did search the forums, honest. I just got into the world for the first time on my free trial, got about a minute off the welcome island and got an IM telling me to log out. It did say something about checking the service status to see when it was back up (which I ought to have paid more attention to, evidently) ... but I can't find a service status page? Help! How do I know when I can log back in? cheers, Kris and was replied to by Matina, who answered my question and welcomed me to SL, as did Trinity, Artemis, Darwin, Teeny and Don O'Flynn. My second post was to thank them, and criticize the fact that the status page isnt linked to anywhere on the website and bemoan the fact that the only thing I'd had a chance to meet so far in SL before it went down was the parrot on the Orientation Island. More than a year on and I'm still bitching in the forums. Mwee. |

My First post was actually about copyright laws in SL. Someone had brought textures in world and was concerned about people taking and selling them. But thanks alot Darko, I just spent the last 2 hours "remembering" all 210 post's i've made.

My very first forum post was this on from September 16, 2003:
Cubey's newbie's perspective I'm new to SL. On the weekend, I finally signed up as a full resident and got my first installment of SL cash. I had a whole whack of Linden dollars, so I immediately bought land in Perry and built a Canadiana-themed home and shop. This may have been a mistake. I'm completely broke, and with a weekly stipend of only $1000 (plus a bonus if I'm a social butterfly), I can hardly afford to do anything in SL. Everything costs SL money... teleporting, "rez-ing" objects, land, and of course, the taxes. The taxes alone are bizarrely high. Most of my weekly stipend goes to pay taxes, which leaves me able to do almost nothing in SL. This leads me to ask... why should I keep paying REAL money to keep using Second Life? If there's a technical problem with allowing people to build freely, then Linden Lab should solve that, and not cripple their customers' ability to play their game. Daemioth Sklar quickly stepped in and helped me figure out how to own land without being taxed to death. By the way, is this thread the forum equivalent of a clip show? ![]() _____________________
