If you sell clothing be sure to check whatever you have out for sale. What is out appears to have a default setting of copy. Also, pants and shoes are fine but shirts need to be redone. Seams now show on arms and shoulders. Will we get new maps? Inquiring minds want to know!

Interesting. Are you selling from a box? and you went into the box to the texture itself and clicked properties?

Another question/comment is you can unclick copy OR you can unclick Transfer but you cannot unclick both. Is there a reason for this?

Yup, I'm selling from a box. All the stuff I'm selling says it's a copy, not the original. And then in the lower boxes, it says the next owner can 1) Modify, 2) Copy or 3) Resell or Give Away, and all my stuff defaulted to modify and resell or give away, the copy box is not checked.

Are you thinking the first box that specifies it's a copy of the original instead means the buyer can copy the item?

And I find I can check or uncheck "copy" (as in, the buyer can copy), but not "resell or give away." And that seems fair to me.

There are three lower boxes that state the next owner can.. as you noted. Thats the ones that it is my understanding we need as sellers to be concerned with. If Copy is checked, they can copy it. If Transfer is checked they can transfer ownership. Modify means they can change the sleeve length pand length etc. As a seller Im most concerned with copy and transfer.

Your copy (or original) shouldnt make any difference to you as the maker.

Someone (Linden?) correct me if I'm wrong anywhere.

All of mine defaulted to copy also MJ.

A couple of questions... if the modify attribute is left on so people can adjust lengths and tint colors does that also mean they can lift the texture? I set mine to enable modify and transfer, but not copy.

To all the many many owners of my clothing. Any items that need to be fixed will be and exchanges for versions purchased before 1.1 will happily be made. I have over 60 items so it's going to take some time. Please be patient, and if you have a favorite you can't live without send me an IM. The items that receive requests will get fixed first. Thanks!

It's okay with me for somebody to transfer something to someone else, as long as the one copy of that item disappears from the original buyer's inventory. As far as reselling something goes, I'm thinking this would be akin to somebody having a yard sale to clean out her inventory, and maybe selling stuff for, say $5 or $10 apiece. That is okay with me, too, as long as they can only sell the copy they bought.

And let me echo Chip on the note about fixing items I've sold. I certainly don't have as many items as he does, but I've made a good number of sales and want to make the copies right for buyers.

And that's a good question about texture lifting if an item is set to modify, Chip...

Chip,
Cath O and I tested and she said she was unable to lift the texture with the mod option checked.

Owners of my tops (bottoms are not affected) will have similar options. If its not out in my store please dont IM me about it. Once and item is fixed I will then put it back up in my store. At that time the fixed version will be made available. PLEASE do not discard the old copies. Not all items have a problem and I may want to see the item as proof of prior purchase.

Some of my bottoms will be affected. Most pants should be fine, but panties and binkini bottoms are now crotchless so wear with caution! When replacements are available you'll need to give me your old one as proof of purchase. I sell too much to keep track of who bought what. It might take me a few weeks to get everything updated so please be patient, but feel free to ask. As I mentioned before your requests will determine the order I get around to redoing them. Don't throw out the old ones or I won't be able to give you a replacement!

You can now set the textures themselves by right clicking on them as to whether they are copyable or transferrable. Personally, I think that buyers like the options of being able to modify and give stuff away - much as we do in RL. It's the giving copies away that is killing the rag trade, though, so that is the thing you have to worry about.

Thanks for pointing this out. My stuff as well, is all set transfer/modify/copy by default. It appears to be universal. No idea yet if I have seams. By habit, I go over the seams more than I need to when I build my textures. If anyone finds a problem with any of my stuff, please IM me.

Nephilaine,
its not the box to check, its the texture itself.

Ok I have slept since last night when I talked to Phoenix...so here is the run down from what I gathered. Apparently MJ and I hit Ian and Phoenix at the same time last night about texture and clothing problems.

Phoenix stopped by twice to see me in reference this whole faux pa with the clothing. Apparently there was an oversight and yes most clothing articles defaulted to copyable if they were in world when the update happend.

So from what I am understanding as MJ has said before if you have copyable on the actual clothing article that means that everything can be done from the texture being lifted to spawning multiple copies.

However, if it is selected to be modifiable and can be given or sold it will not affect the protection of the texture.

Let me clear some things up if I can try. If the clothing be it given away or sold the orginal has to be bought from the creator first before someone else has that opportunity.

For instance say lil johnny really likes my Polo Shirt and he wantes everyone in his group to have them but at the same time he wants to make a lil profit so he can buy more for new members. lil johny goes to my store and buys 30 copies of my Polo shirt for $50 and thats 1500 for me. But when lil johnny goes to resell those shirts he sells them for $60 making $10 profit on each. Now the issue is not eveyone wants a long sleeve Polo and not everyone wants the color selected but with mod perms off johnny nor his new customer can modify. Hence they would need to come back to the creator for modifying or customizing a piece of clothing.

OK I will post more later I have to get back to work.
Talk to everyone soon

Wait.. WHAT??

If it is set modify people can copy and sell it?? We really need a Linden to weigh in here.

What I gathered was this:

COPY you can copy and distribute freely

MODIFY you can change the color or the sleeve/pant length but thats it

TRANSFER you can give or sell your single copy only

Is this correct or incorrect LINDENS Please.

I also really want to know why you cannot UNCHECK all the boxes. Right now if you uncheck COPY, transfer stays or visa versa. Is this a bug or a feature?

I think its a feature - if they can't copy it then they are allowed to give away the one they own. They lose it when they do so.
