If one decides to be a live help mentor is it something that can be turned on and off, if sometimes you want to help and other times you don't want to be disturbed? Not currently, and that is one of the biggest problems. I find myself ignoring the IM "ding" now, because I assume it's a Live Help question - which means I often don't see personal IMs till way too late! The ability to it off and on has been requested, and they're looking into it. _____________________

Its already a known fact that Hank Ramos is superior to us. His contributions to the community gave him that status. He doesnt need live help to feel that way.

Lisse,
I didnt mean for it to sound like I have a chip on my shoulder. I ment it as a compliment really. Hank has helped me a number of times with scripts, and he had no clue who I was, I just IMed him out of the blue. _____________________

So, why is Beau Perkins carrying Chip Midnight on his shoulders. It can't be a monkey on his back. That would be Derek Jones.

Papa Crow Steps away from the forums for a few weeks and look at the madness that ensues.
Care not Live Helpers, we know the work we do, and how hard and frustrating it can be sometimes. We all have our strengths and weaknesses, and I have a high opinion of every one of you. We get griefed, we get yelled at, and we smile. Thanks for sharing this time with me. Crow _____________________

I was in trouble earlier today and FlipperPA replied to my post and suggested I contact him via Live Help in game which I did.
He appeared at my location and sorted my problem out immediately - thank you again FlipperPA. I had no idea the live helpers were residents, i thought they were LL staff so even more kudos should go to them. You all do a great job with obviously little thanks from some people. meerah ![]() |

another thank you note

I also want to say thank you to live help people. I have always gotten people who are at the very least interested in my question if not able to answer it.
So thank you Live Help team, you all really represent what SL spirit should be all about. Troy Vogel |

Indeed -- thanks to the Live Help people who helped me, including those who I know outside of a LH capacity and have chatted and had fun with inworld. It's always such a thrill to see a familiar name come up. I'm like "HIII! I KNOW YOU! I HAVE A QUESTION!"

Technical support is very often a thankless job, but by and large, in spite of incredibly nasty posts like this one, the reward of the countless thank yous we have received as Live Helpers while helping individuals more than offsets the negativity and spite of one disgruntled player. The Live Help program has been overwhelmingly positive, and I am proud to have been part of it (and to work to help to improve it for future groups of people). No amount of nastiness can undo the sheer volume of good work that has been done to help others, with no motivation other than a desire to help others. The original poster showed their true colors when they attacked an individual and called him a wanker. Not only is that grossly insulting, it could not be further from the truth, and it only reflects poorly on the original poster. Thank you to all the members for the continued support and patience we receive while we do our level best to try to help you with your questions.

Just a thought... would it be a good idea to have a message or something pop up when you click the Live Help link explaining exactly what's happening??? Since a lot of the questions are coming from new players from what I hear, isn't it wrong to assume they know what's going on exactly when they click the button? Maybe not for the case that started this thread but in general, I think a quick message would save some frustrations from coming about. Something along the lines of "Welcome to Live Help. This is a volunteer community of other SL players. Type your question in the IM window and it will be addressed as soon as possible. For questions or issues regarding account problems, sim outage, etc please contact LL Support." ...just a thought. -Meiyo I think it's an excellent thought, Mejyo. I've often felt we could really use this. I'm on live help and there are so many times that when I tell the user that we're not Lindens, and that there may or may not be Lindens plugged into Live help right now, and that they should contact support. They often get very frustrated. We're also asked questions on everything from how to copy a CD-ROM, to difficulties in using GOM...and whether or not we help people have sex in SL... A little disclaimer notifying users that we are not authorized to touch a user's brass tadpole might go a long way toward clearing up a lot of confusion. Lumi _____________________
