Guess I don't get the concern. Unless you named an object "SPECIAL PENIS MADE FOR PHILIP LINDEN" how would it expose any player info? Its no worse than the google search cache, where you can see the latest search terms.

I think the concern, if any, is that people were not aware that this feature might be added when they made and named items in the past. (And how do you know about that penis I made anyway? ;) )

I just saw an object key come up - which could easily be traced to a player. I'm sure whoever decided to name objects within their vending system the same as the object key never thought they'd be up and displayed on the web site.

That said - it's still fun!

Here I am, out in a RL shopping mall, and I'm sitting in the Apple store, wirelessly connecting to the Second Life web site just so I can watch in-world transactions for a while!

Bad idea redux

From: blaze Spinnaker
Well, I'm sure LL will ban who ever does that and their alts.

Interesting idea, though.

Why? It does not violate current TOS except for the "Wiggle" script... So, alternatively, attach a prim to the avatar... have it "control" the avatar so that movement appears to occur... continue giving and receiving "gifts" at an aperiodic rate (5 secs this time...10 sec delay next time...3 sec delay... etc.. change the rate to x minutes vice seconds and you avoid the problem of "high activity attention getting";).

Prove that that occurs without extensive database examination...

Alternatively.... script a vendor to "sell/give" something to a "dwell avatar" - like those already known to inhabit certain plots/locations. This, again, would involve scripting an attachment for an avatar to activate the vendor... but shouldn't be too difficult for a determined hacker..umm, scripter. Much more difficult to spot than the first problem if you combine this with a known sales location, mall, club, etc. and a "move avatar around" script.

It's an interesting idea .. but maybe all you're going to do is attract lots of competition as people will think it's a great thing to sell.

Doesn't solve the "problem" of gaming the "new system".

This is a bad idea.

Well, it does in a way .. because it provides no benefit to game the system.

I doubt that a lot of people will use it as a way to find things to buy. I can see people using it as a way to find things to sell.

Okay blaze, repeating myself slowly so you can follow this time...

The "new game" is free advertising like I said in my original post.

Yes, I got that.

But, like I said, if you 'game' the system, all you probably are doing is encouraging and enticing other people to sell similar items and compete with you.

You probably aren't encouraging buyers to buy your items as I don't see it as being very effective for that purpose.

My fourth thought was "Some of those item names are probably violating the PG nature of the web site"

My husband's thought was "Better not pass anyone a penis with my name on it" ;)
