I'm up for it. I volunteered in Biloxi for a couple of days and would love to do more.

I would be interested only if I am permitted to be critical of the Federal response to this manmade disaster and their blatant disregard for the impoverished of this nation.

This is great. Would it be possible to get a Linden rep assigned to confirm the receipt of the generated funds and the payment to the designated agency?

I've only given my scripted pool to The Shelter and never sold it, but I could use 1024m2 to sell scaled down versions for Katrina. Please allot me 1024-2048m2 to set up pools to profit the drive. I can also put out some odds and ends that have made a whopping L$0 on SLB. Maybe people will buy a giant safety pin for the good of humanity ;)

We at GOM have been supporting the SL community's charitable donations since early 2004. In that time we have helped SL residents support such charities as the EFF, Heifer International, Florida's hurricane relief, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the ACS Run for Life, another recent Katrina relief effort and several other projects, and converted over $25,000 worth of donated L$. For organized campaigns, we provide a commission-free selling account and will submit the donations to the intended recipient.

Contact me (tom@gamingopenmarket.com) if you would like more info. If someone at Linden Lab is interested in getting involved with this in some capacity they are more than welcome.

I was trying to address an issue which I have seen touched on in other threads and remove any obstacles which might prevent participation. Anonymity within SL is prevalent, therefore a request for confirmation of the distribution of funds is sought to reassure reluctant donors not to cast doubt upon any of the fund raising endeavors which have occurred.

I am appreciative of GOM's support along these lines and commend them for their participation. My post does not reflect skepticism on my behalf about this or any other charitable effort. I applaud and have personally provided financial support for such efforts which can be confirmed in the post of the charity auction results.

I would love to participate in any fundraisers. Additionally, I have an idea for another fundraiser that would possibly raise more money overall than the auction did.

I was thinking about the main problems with conducting an auction, and several things came to mind immediately.

First, the fact that a physical location and group was used meant that the number of people who could participate in both being auctioned off and bidding was limited. Plus, residents like me who are not as wealthy as others had absolutely no chance of getting the high bid on someone like, say, Bub Linden.

So my idea was, instead of holding another auction, run a Linden and resident lottery instead. I know that lottery scripts are fairly common place, so all we would need are some Lindens and residents to volunteer some time.

The cost of a lottery ticket could either be very low ($1L) or a substanstial amount ($250L). The period of the lottery could be one or two weeks, and I could set up an alt that the money from ticket sales could automatically go to.

The lottery script could be placed in a single prim poster (or a poster for each lottery "prize";) in a location accessible to everyone.

Anyway... what do y'all think?

This seems like a relatively easy thing to set up that provides everyone an opportunity to participate. Lower ticket prices would seem the way to go ,at first thought, to encourage more participation. There are issues with that, too, but since it is the cause that matters, I would hope people would not be deterred either way.

Well, I know a lot of people may not agree with me, but I felt that a figure around $250L would be fairly reasonable. Even when I was brand new, I could have bought one lottery ticket for $250L. But maybe it should be lower.. say $100L?

Didn't you generate $2500 in one night? I think your insticts are pretty good. Glad to see your willingness to reflect on what did and did not work with your execution and move forward.

Thanks, Margaret. A wise person told me to not to view what did not work as mistakes, but as lessons well learned.

I agree that $250 would have been reasonable to me way back when, but I seem to have run up against people recently that can't scratch two $Ls together. Your best judgement is sound, I'm sure.

Well, perhaps I'm being greedy on behalf of Hurricane Katrina victims. Perhaps $100L to $150L is more reasonable.

And if someone doesn't have the $100L for a ticket, they can work for me for half an hour and earn it. :D

No stripping or sex acts required either. ;)

Yes, I'm very interested in this! Having family displaced by Katrina, coupled with seeing the effectiveness (and generosity) of previous SL fundraising efforts, I'm very hopeful and excited by SL's efforts to help with this disaster.

Well um... I could still auction you off... of course, the only two bidders present would be me and Maureen... and we share. :D

The easiest way is to let a Linden drop a donation box with Flip's script at your event. Pathfinder did it for Virtual Aid and I'd think people trusted him sending it to the Red Cross. We've raised 119,000 L$ in 9 hours that way!

We're willing to do another event like the Virtual Aid Concert, which took place last weekend at Dragon Moon. So anybody who participated and want to do it again, and those who couldn't participate but would this time, contact DarkDharma Daguerre or me inworld.

If we'll put together another Virtual Aid event, you are more than welcome to participate and put down signs, hand out flyers, hold a speech etc. If that wouldn't be allowed on a Linden sim, well then I guess we should do it on Dragon Moon again.
