Le Cimetiere raised $L6000. at it's grand opening last week for Habitat for Humanity to help NOLA residents. We are a NOLA themed adult vamp club (I lived in NOLA for 8 years & a dear friend who lives in the FQ was stuck there for 5 days after the disaster. It waspartly out of fear, frustration & sadness that I built Le Cimetiere). We'd love to hold an event to do more. I want scripted king cakes & beads *grins*

If the Lindens provide a referrel code or name in all marketing about this effort, and donate the referrel dollars to the Katrina Relief effort I'm in! I'm tired of all those Insurance Companies and thier sappy disaster commercials on T.V., and am wary of all free marketing based on the disaster. But if it's really about the Katrina Relief, throw the referral money toward the effort!!!!
If something like that is done, count me in for scripting and DJ'ing live Jazz (I am Satchmo afterall)...

If something like that is done, count me in for scripting and DJ'ing live Jazz (I am Satchmo afterall)... Hearing a set put together by you to pay tribute to your namesake as well as other New Orleans musical sons & daughters would be an undeniable pleasure, Satchmo. I'd work with you towards a New Orleans Jazz fundraisers in a French Quarter/Preservation Hall setting. Earmarking the funds for assisting musicians effected by Katrina would have additional motivational appeal for me. But I'm okay with the Red Cross or Salvation Army if that's what people are more comfortable with. • 100% of the New Orleans Musicians Hurricane Relief Fund ( www.preservationhall.org) will go directly to New Orleans musicians. • Safe Harbor for Our New Orleans Friends ( www.noahleans.org) provides displaced New Orleans musicians with housing, venues in which to perform, and instruments. • The Jazz Foundation of America ( www.jazzfoundation.org) will be raising funds and distributing money for musicians to get a new apartment or room for rent, and to replace their instruments. • The Tipitina’s Foundation (828-686-8742) is developing a database of people throughout the country who can give New Orleans artists a temporary home or other support. If this comes together, I'd think to myself... WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD (George Weiss / Bob Thiele) I see trees of green, red roses too I see them bloom for me and you And I think to myself, what a wonderful world I see skies of blue and clouds of white The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night And I think to myself, what a wonderful world The colours of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky Are also on the faces of people going by I see friends shakin' hands, sayin' "How do you do?" They're really saying "I love you" I hear babies cryin', I watch them grow They'll learn much more than I'll ever know And I think to myself, what a wonderful world Yes, I think to myself, what a wonderful world Oh yeah

absolutely interested

I would be very interested in taking part in continuing to help raise more funds for Katrina victims and if land were allotted for this purpose have a few ideas. Via's Flip's script that sent money to Pathfinder and a candle giving script from ReallyRick Metropolitan, I had set up donation and also memorial candle altars at my cathedral in Darkwood. It is amazing how generous people have been. Since it has been up, it has raised a bit over 32,000 L. Nevermind all the touching words of hope attached to many of the candles that people have lit there. I agree, the Virtual Aid concert was a great idea and a fun event that managed to raise a lot. Also, on the idea of a raffle ticket sort of system, Club Belle Feu had a raffle that drew in quite a lot of money that ran on the same premise of 250L a ticket and that gave you a chance to win varioud donated items/services. Contact Flipper, he also set that system up and he and JennyFur were the MCs. Great efforts have outpoured over this from so many people.

Delighted to Volunteer
09-20-2005 13:35
As a relative newcomer, most impressed with the invasive spirit of kindness and generosity I've encounter in SL, I would be more than happy to volunteer my meager services to a benefit. I don't have a lot to offer in the way of technical skills, but I will gladly do what I can -- even if it's just to be there and toss beads to the crowd! (Hmmm, in honor of Bourbon Street, I could even be conviced to do it topless!)

From: Demian Caldera The easiest way is to let a Linden drop a donation box with Flip's script at your event. Pathfinder did it for Virtual Aid and I'd think people trusted him sending it to the Red Cross. We've raised 119,000 L$ in 9 hours that way!

Unfortunately it is becoming apparent that we may need to think about possibly raising some money for what may come of Hurricane Rita.

I don't currently have the time to organize and event all of my own, but would be more than happy to help/brainstorm/or event host and event. IM or PM me.

(Hmmm, in honor of Bourbon Street, I could even be conviced to do it topless!) That actually gives me a good idea to ponder.. I know NOLA was not the only place hit by this disaster, but it was certainly the most widely-known for its unique culture. In light of that, I think having a mardi-gras style parade-float contest would be an interesting way to raise money. Have the donation booths be the way people cast their votes. Regardless of whether people vote because their buddies built it, or because they think it's just the coolest float, the benefit would be the same.. money raised. Adding a touch of competition to it would add incentive to really go all out with the build and even costumes, if they'd be manned floats. (If someone else has already suggested this and I just missed it.. Good idea! I agree. )

A SL style Mardi-Gras complete with floats and a parade would be fun and a great way to raise money. If LL's ends up supplying these "Charity SIMS" for use with such ventures that would be enough SIM space to parade through.

If LL's ends up supplying these "Charity SIMS" for use with such ventures that would be enough SIM space to parade through. I think a good way to do it would be to have a set max number of prims that each Krew could use, a max number of residents per Krew, and a set number of days the projects should be built in. Then have them set out for a couple weeks or so, so people can vote on the builds with donations, (with each float having a donation booth) and then a 'final push' for donations by way of the actual parade and festivities that would draw more people out. Maybe the winning Krew of the contest could have a large donation done in their name, and perhaps be listed here on the forums and/or something in world for recognition.

I'm glad to see this resurrected; Jeska's original post was looking for a hundred or so people and the response didn't make it seem likely to happen. My early thoughts were to use the first month for buliders, scriptors, animators et al to recreate the French Quarter, Bourbon street, etc. The second month for ongoing performances. Hold Mardi Gras to coincide with Halloween?
In otherwords, I'm in.

Not only would it raise money, but I think it would be a lot of fun to boot. NOLA style music (blues, jazz, some zydeco -sp?-) would be great, and there are so many themes the Krews could use the possibilities for floats would be endless. I think we'll have to put the kabosh on public urination and frat boys throwing up in the gutters though, so it won't be entirely authentic. Even if the Lindens decide not to provide the sims, I will be doing this anyway, (somewhere) provided there is interest.

WHEW! I am glad you did not rule out the "flashing" to get beads. If you had I would have vigorously objected.

I think that would be shooting a Katrina victim in the foot, and they've been through enough. Boobies! Maybe I'll talk to Siggy about doing up a Flasher script with some particle breasteses.

From: Margaret Mfume So how do we go about doing all this? I sent a message to Jeska asking about the status on LL supplying land. If they don't supply it, I'll need to find another chunk that's big enough to hold it and that someone is willing to donate. First we need a location, then a date, the rules and specifics.

I have an island I can donate, not sure if thats enough space, but it may be faster than waiting on LL, I am suprised they haven't given us anymore info

Hi, I haven't posted before, so I hope I get this right.
I would like to help promote the relief effort by helping coordinate activities, brainstorm and market the message, and increase awareness through party events and bill board and poster ads. I would love to add value to the Real World through efforts in Second Life, I think this is a very cool thing the Lindens and everyone in this thread wants to do.
Thanks, Dennis Albion
