you can scan an entire sim from one lot from one prim, so there's really no reason for swarming

Oh great, more mysterious objects hidden at altitude. So yeah, a bunch of people vouched for Pete and not knowing anything to the contrary, I'll believe it.
Still, have we learned nothing from the last bout of "that which the system doesn't prohibit is allowed"? I don't care what their purpose is. Sending your experiment out on your property is one thing, doing it in the sandbox is another. Doing it across the entire world is just plain rude regardless of how snowy white the motivations may be.
Since nobody thought it worthwhile to delete * from sims where name = "land scanner" and owner = "chance smallberries" it is likely that neither will such happen here. Is it getting to the point where we're going to have to buy "Norton Anti-Flying Who Knows What the Fuck It Is" scripts just so we don't have people's experiments piling up throughout the world?

If you are concerned with this, file an abuse report. Naming names isn't appropriate. Saying where they could be found and encouraging people to check it out... well, that's at least keeping it out of the forum.

From: Laukosargas Svarog I have seen the lb objects in our sim Alviso. My friend tracked them to their source, a small 32 or 64 m2 parcel of land in a sim a few sims from Alviso. We called a Linden, who was helpful but said he couldn't/wouldn't do anything , and also talked to the creator ( who has already been correctly identified in this thread ), he was extremely uncooperative and would not remove them from our sim. Alviso's performance dropped radically at around the same time as the appearance of these scanners. Coincidence? Personally I think not. Wall_of_text/10

First of all, abuse reports have no effect as I have personally experienced. Second, the fact that anyone can just send out these objects across everyone's land what whatever reason should be a violation. But then again, I believe it all depends on who you are and how much money you bring to the game. But as usual, this is not new information for anyone who has been here awhile. Has anyone seen my cheery disposition lately, because I have lost it somewhere since the beginning of the year. Just return it if you find the place I left it.

Della, I'll return your cheery disposition if I find it littered on my property. LOL.
I have recently reported abuse on some supicious objects I located high in the sky - not this particular object. Of course, LL does not give you any details of resolutions of abuse reports, however, I did hear back with their generic "consider it resolved" message, and checked again and the object I reported had been removed so it seems that if there is substance to a report, something will get done about it. I certainly have not brought a bunch of $$ to SL, lol.
As to the main topic of this thread, I have scanned these objects in several sims too and am curious. I reported abuse on several of them that I located last night, I'll be interested to observe the outcome.
Cheers, JL
addendum: I do not ever see more than one of them in any sim. It may look like several (100s of them?!?) because it is 2 prims that constantly die and respawn each other every 30 seconds, so they scan with a different inventory key every time that happens.

hehe, never seen these, but I did see some birds flying at high speed across sims a while back. couple of people wanted a way to get rid of them since they were flying through their buildings. Since they were physical we simply set a sensor with max push straight down. fairly good way of sending a physical object off world.

I think those are the public land scanning "machines of the future" pieces of crap that land barons sometimes use to find the land before it appears on the map or it goes to the auction. Kinda greedy huh? Im in the proccess of making a land - height / public land mapper that is open to the public. They dont lag the sim at all, and I made them move fast, about 40 seconds per sim and *hopefully* wont get stuck in no lag zones... Ill inform everyone about the website address to find this map before I start the 3 or so that will roll around second life. (so it will be very, VERY rare to find these. and they move at 175 m / second at 2000 meters up, so Im sure you might see a small "glimpse" of them if you can get that high. (It will be a invisible cube, so you can only see this if you have that highlight transparent on )

Now that rate-whoring has been curtailed, perhaps the plan is to force a number of newbies into servitude, flying a never-ending mission aboard these probes.

no they dont, physics dont stop until about 4000 meters (I think) high There is a 512 limit when using setposition and scripts never stop at high altitudes, I already tried I made it really high so it doesnt disturb others.

Attachments work up to millions of meters, if you're willing to spend a few hours flying up there.
