I believe a lot of the problem in forming any kind of player controlled conflict resolution comes down to trust. We all trust LL or we wouldnt be paying them. We dont trust something we dont pay for. Anyone so far that keeps saying we need this is someone I wont trust. We do need something but what has been so far offered is not going to work.
Perhaps a monthly payed LL staff to run it would be acceptable to those who want it, say 2 tiers of SL, or a complete new SL with it in place. Offering this as some cure all for abuse is not going to work simply because all loosers in some player ran dispute resolution comitee would go to LL for the final ruling. It would not limit the amount, it would simply add to it.
I feel this whole concept, so far as its been presented, is doomed to failure simply because the majority of all in SL do not want other players handing down judgements that may invovle a great deal of RL dollars.

And is exactly the core issue I'm pressing us to explore. :)

If not specific set of players, and not LL; how do we arbitrate disputes and conflicts and invoke change and innovation within our little community here?

I think the lack of violence in SL, which Im not a fan of BTW, causes more minor squabbles than say UO..... in UO they were settled in a battle, winner take all, that in itself made people think twice :)

You know, this is a great idea. This could actually be a form of conflict resolution in SL if we wanted. We would just need people to agree to adhere to the outcome of the fight. I think it would be great if I could challenge my neighbor to a duel for building a massive club right up against my property line.

In that lies the problem, people would have to agree :)

I'm curious, what makes you, or Donovan, think no one is listening? I've read every post in this thread, as I'm sure many have. You can listen without agreeing. You can listen without seeing the validity or sense of someone else's point. Don't assume we aren't listening just because we then state our own views without spewing someone else's back at them first.

Naw, I think people are listening. My prior post was a bit too harsh -- I plead too much tequila and a bad day. I don't mind if they disagree -- I like it, actually -- but I don't like it when people resort to personal attacks, especially attacks that are motivated by issues having nothing to do with the issue at hand -- and there has been one or two of those.

Sorry, Jon. You're right.
