What to blame next? How about prune juice? I really don't like prune juice.

You meanie - what'd prune juice ever do to you?

*coughs*

My own sales have increased noticably. If SL is dying, then 'SL is dead, long live SL!'

Yay I said this the other day - La Vie Deuxième Est Mort! Vive La Vie Deuxième! It's true, the only thing constant in SL is change.

All the SL bronzers left the game because they lost their stipend bonuses.

Then I guess we'll have to mud you...I know there are mudders left :D

A slightly modified version of Psycho Killer by the Talking Heads...

I can't seem to face up to the facts
I'm tense and nervous and I
Can't SL relax
I can't sleep 'cause my stipend's in a mire
Don't touch my bonus, I'm a real town crier

SL Killer
Qu'est-ce que c'est
fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh far better
Run run run run run run run away
SL Killer
Qu'est-ce que c'est
fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh far better
Run run run run run run run away

You start a thread you can't even finish it.
You're talkin' a lot, but you're not sayin' anything.
When you have nothing to say, it's all revealed.
Say something once, why say it again?

SL Killer,
Qu'est-ce que c'est
fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh far better
Run run run run run run run away
SL Killer
Qu'est-ce que c'est
fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh far better
Run run run run run run run away

Ce que j'ai entendu, ce soir la
Ce Phillip a dit, ce soir la
Tuant mes espoirs
Je lance dehors, vers la mort ... OK
We are poor now, how unkind
I hate people when they're right

SL Killer,
Qu'est-ce que c'est
fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh far better
Run run run run run run run away
SL Killer,
Qu'est-ce que c'est
fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh fuh far better
Run run run run run run run away

oh no oh no oh no oh no....

*smiles softly*

I am so happy to hear that Second Life is still alive and well. :)

While we face challenges, we must link hands (or other appendages in the case of you many-tentacled friends of mine), and all step forward.

Please stay around for another year and compare your feelings today to the ones you'll be feeling in the future (from our present perspective). It can be personally refreshing to look at yourself from two different "slices of life" or more, and understand why you have made certain choices.

UNITY IN DIVERSITY! :D

Hard Case, I'm going to dodge all the snipers' bullets in this forum and all the nasties who are slamming you and say, I'm listening to you lament, and I take it seriously because it is your experience, and you have recorded it accurately and compellingly.

It's not my experience, because I find that I have more rentals than ever and even more land sales and people are just willing to either use up their saved Lindens or go on GOM or IGE or use their stipends in different ways than they used to. They may not have added up as much what they used to blow money on but now they chose more wisely perhaps, I don't know. My impression is that the scarcity of freebie Lindens has made people buy more on the GOM and that drove the prices on GOM up, but it's all good, it's a normal free economy.

Your experience is legitimate, because whatever all these feted oldbie poseurs are saying about sandboxes and Our Friend Mr. Return and all that other tripe, YOUR sky *is* falling.

It's falling because a) you've only been here since December so you haven't lived through several waves yet and b) "all the social people" are your little set of friends and maybe if one or two of them moved on, it rocked your world. Sometimes "all the social people" leave in a huff or run out of Lindens but sometimes they come back. And sometimes you can find a new set of "all the social people" by just going to new events and flying around move.

The same people who used to built in sandboxes still build in sandboxes. And there are still people who build houses for people just out of kindness, like Bob Bunderfeld built me a house. So you can continue your good deeds but you might have to adjust some of your style. You might have to start charging for some of your building skills so that your work is valued and so that you have walking around money independent of the stipends.

Well, you chose the name "Hard Case" because you may have had specific spectacles through which to view the world through your own life experience. I respect that. I would say that your lament is the lament of a significant group of people in SL and since you represent customers for both LL and for content barons and land barons, you should be heeded. So try to think what it is you want, and list what your requirements or desires are for the game. Larger stipends? Not coming. Free rating system? Well, go and use Shaun Altman's free rating system, it works great. Let's try to fine solutions.

Prokofy's reasoning is very interesting to me. Let me see if I can break it down. (I'm not going to fisk it because there's just too much to pick through.)

Prokofy attests that his rental business is better than ever. Good! He's living in the same world as the rest of us who've got eyes and brains and are capable of looking up the economic data for SL.

Prokofy takes great umbrage at our request that the original poster communicate in a way which is cogent -- or at the very least, paragraphical. Disagree though I often do with Prokofy, I can at least grant his effective use of language -- if not brevity. If someone wants me to take the time to read their opinions, the least they can do is make an effort to communicate with a modicum of readability. It's respect.

The crux of Prokofy's enabling, though, is that since Hard Case lacks the context with which to make informed opinions, what laughable opinions he does make are perfectly valid. 'Cause he's ignorant, it's okay for him to have ignorant opinions.

The reason so many legal systems have an age of majority is becaus children lack the context to make informed decisions. We don't pay attention to the contracts children sign because they don't know anything. I think it's a pretty good plan to ignore people who don't know what they're talking about.

By the way. I know many intelligent people who only joined in December. I'm thinking they were also awake during their high school Economics class. I haven't heard any one of them make a peep about how SL will die.

feted oldbie...
At least half of the respondants to this thread have born on dates in 2004. Some are even late 2004 joiners. Once agian you've completely ignored that - and want to fixate on older players.

So, in short you are agreeing with the thread starter that SL is dying. Some of us disagree. Some have offered evidence to the contrary. Yet again you want to look at a square and call it a circle.

All that is left know are the people that are hoping that Linden Labs will return to way it was or last a scaled version of it. With out the social players SL is nothing. I am a builder. I used to love to build things for people and to teach people how to build things. I taught new players for free in the sand box, while I was looking for customers to build things for. I like being sought after for my abilities. Now that all the social players have moved on there is no-one left to build for. The sandboxes are empty. None of the new players can earn linden to pay for the things that people create. That's what was so great about SL. I could spend acouple hours building something, and then someone walking by might think it's cool and ask me to build something for them or offer to by what i built. Those days are gone. Thanks to people caring soo much about how strong the linden is to the dollar, they forgot to think of what will happen when there are no more people wanting Linden. The MAJORITY of people that would by Linden from places like GOM and IGE were the social players, that used SL as a glorified chat room. They didn't come here to learn how to script pr build, they came here to have fun and be with there friends. SL is where they felt like they had a social life. Ugly people could win beauty contests, people that can't walk can DANCE ALL NIGHT LONG. People that dream of flying CAN. SL is a wonderful place, but if things continue the way the they are the only people that will be left are the ones that are the Lindens, because everyone else will get tired of being broke with no fun places to go to, and no fun people to talk to. Please SAVE SECOND LIFE.

In English... ALT!

I concur. Lucid and with legitimate sympathy. Despite expectation, my own included, not all of his published words need be assumed to spring from soapboxes and megaphones.

Prok, while this post is wonderfully empathetic of you, I fail to see why if Hard Case gets to post his opinion, other people should not be allowed to post theirs.

If I posted a comment and had 10 people disagree with me -- are they nasties for disagreeing? Nope. Because 10 people disagreed with my one comment, is that bullying? No. Nor does it dictate who is right or wrong... just an exchange of opinions.

Until Prokofy stops using divisive phrases like this; "because whatever all these feted oldbie poseurs are saying" I will see it as a soapbox, regardless of any measure of sympathy projected.

Siggy, I joined 1/22/2004, right before 1.2 came out. Am I an oldbie or midbie? And, if the latter, am I still eligible for Fetid Inner Core? And, if not, am I allowed to complain both about oldbie conspiracies AND spoiled noobs? :)

I supported the economic changes and was quite vocal about it... I still say it's improved the economy a bit, although there are some minor adjustments that need to be made... But overall, the economy has improved. Something you're forgetting is that SL is a REAL WORLD economy... To that effect, we need to curb inflation or SL's economy will crash to the point noone could afford anything... and that's the way it was heading... But now prices on goods and land are lowering to a more acceptible level.

Oh and um... I'm still here! Watch the generalizations bud!
