LOL yeah probably all the ppl in the forums bitching cus they dont make enough. Who name them. Everyone I know (and I know a hell of a lot of ppl) are about breaking even and working full time for less than a part time job. For me, SL isn't about the money. It's about following a dream that I didn't get to reach in RL. My dream was to go to New York and start my career. But things, as we all know, don't always go as planned, and I fell in love. I got married and started my family.
So now I get to venture into that world I longed for that I was affaid I wasn't going to be able to experience. Oh, and the extra money is only a BONUS. |

If you want to make a difference in SL, then maybe try financing talented artists in SL. SL does't run on fairy dust and dreams. It requires real US$ to make it work. That's the hard, cold reality of life. It's up to you to make this world better, with the tools and reality we have. If you want to make SL a better reality, then do it!  _____________________

Its my business when they open a new grid to kiddes just for extra money, and pushing our issues to the back burner. Its my business when all I read in the forums is money related. Its my business when I see that LL is planing on more ways to off L$ for sale in world. Yup its my world to so that makes it my business to. Thats where you are mistaken, it is not your world, nor my world... it is OUR world, and we are all equal and have every right to enjoy SL how we want to enjoy it... no one dictates your SL, why would you want to do it to others? How many threads have there been in the past 2 weeks about money? How many announcements by the Lindens in the past two months have been about money? I feel like I am being pushed to make a buck and if I dont make a buck I am less than everyone else. When I see how something is affecting me in a negative way I will definatly always say something. Those who are very creative who dont do it for the all mighty buck deserve much more than to be ignored and told to get on the fricken money train. Then again I could be wrong as I dont see anyone else bitching along side me. _____________________

Catherine, I'm trying hard to maintain a modicum of politeness here, but comments like that are making it difficult. Not that it really matters for discussion of the actual topic of this thread, but the fact is there are people making a living in SL. I will never name names of anyone in any discussion, negative or positive, without their express permission to do so, but I can tell you that I know two people who have quit their previous jobs because they are making more in SL off items they make and sell and I know a third third who is making several hundred dollors (US) a week off his items, but has no desire to quit his job. I also know one person who makes a fortune playing the money market on GOM. I will alert these people to this thread, and if they feel it is appropriate to tell you who they are, they will be free to do so. In the mean time, kindly refrain from using the decency that sensual and I have shown in repsecting people's privacy as fuel for your accusations. That having been said, I really don't think the point here is whether or not it's viable to make a living off SL, is it? Afterall, your original post was about whether it's right to care about money in SL, and now somehow it's shifted to whether or not you believe how much people may or may not be making making. It's sounding more and more like you're just reaching for something to complain about. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt though and assume you actuall are interested in real discussion and I'll respond to your answer to my last post: Less and less its about anything but money. Read the forums, look around our world. Re Read your post, money and why you make it. Cat I don't need to reread my post. The topic was money and why I make it because it was a direct response to your post, which was about money. It sounds to me like the only one obsessed with money here is you. First you complain that people talk too much about money and then you have the nerve to complain when the only possible way for someone to respond is to talk more about money. Forgive me, but I am presently unaware of any method of intelligently responding to a statement without discussing the topic addressed by said statement. As for looking around the world and looking at the forums, it's funny you should say that. I'm looking at the forums and I see server performance questions, a thread about SL on Tech-TV, a poll about what SL means to you, a discussion about privacy issues, a thread about script-movement, a social commentary on whether or not malls are obsolete, a question about whether it's worth having a partner, a sign-up sheet for a holiday celebration, a proposal for an open source project, another privacy question in regard to vendors, something about a holiday tree, a blurb about the teen version of SL, another server discussion, something about web pages on prims, a question about camera control, a poll about rules, a poll about another poll, a couple of happy birthday messages, and a christmas list. Incase you hadn't noticed, the ONLY thread about money on the entire first page of the General section is yours. As a matter of fact, outside of the Economy forum (which incidently has the least number of threads in it of all the forums) the only current thread I see directly related to money is yours. As I said, all appearances are that there is only one money-obsessed person here and her name starts with a C. _____________________

I stated my opinions about what I am realy starting to hate about sl. Things that if heard could change sl for the better IMO. I think we need a hell of a lot more creativity and a whole hell of a lot less talk about how to make money, whos making money, and more ways to put more money in LL pockets. All of which are a real turn off for anyone who is an artist at heart.
Your answer is that I leave, I suggest all artist types take your fricken advice. _____________________
