If he wants to live in his own perfect world, play the Sims. (The offline world). Otherwise, this is a creative, real, second life. Not some fake simulation.

When people ask me about SL, I tell them the best part about it is that it immerses you in a virtual 3D world that allows minds from all over the planet to converge and discuss real and virtual topics at a high-school level.

Actually Hank i believe in TRYING even if it is sometimes not possible. I say my comments because i think I can make a difference. At least i am progressive, unlike you. You can enjoy Second Life as you want, and i will enjoy second life as i want, the only difference is, you are complaning, while i am trying to fight for my ideas.

Okay, let me put this in higher level conversation then...

This person suggests that the SL community is unfair. It forces him to be creative, to contribute to the community, to pay his own way. He has found that his attempts to rate-mine and abuse the stipend bonuses have been twarted, and he is now frustrated. He wants to make his way in the world, but he is unwilling to expend any effort to do so. He wants a free ride, because he sees the SL world as one big video game.

The SL world is not a video game. It is a virtual, creative, expansive world. It's made up of tens of thousands of individual human beings attempting to carve out their own slice of this grand and wonderful virtual world.

Now, we see yet another post by a "whiner" in the SL forums. Yet, another one in a vast sea of whiners. He's wants everything in SL for free, without effort, and right now. So, what do you suggest we tell him?

Ideas? What ideas? You have articulated no ideas whatsoever!

You've complained that you have to buy land. That you have to pay more to rate mine. That SL is full of monopolies.

What ideas are you fighting for then?

How about for starters you don't resort to personal attacks such as labeling him a "whiner"?

He posted 4 complaints about his experience with SL. I don't think I'm attacking him personally. I'm attacking his act of whining about these 4 points about the SL community.

My idea is to have a more cultured and more community which has more potential. Recently there have been some changes in the game which i am upset about. This is why i started this thread, to make a difference and to make people think.

What changes are you upset about and why?

Im complaning because i want to make a difference. Im fighting for my privaleges and what i think is right. You are being immature by getting upset from another person's idea. Hey Hank, guess what everyone does not have the same thoughts as you! I only "attack" the community to make it better.

Eugene, you asked a question, and it has been answered fairly. Like any other environment, online or real-life, you don't get absolute power for nothing. You earn your way step-by-step.

You'r not doing a very good job by whining. I'm pushing you to articulate what you mean.

You want to make a difference? Okay. Well, then grow up and figure out what you want to do about it! Saying that you are upset about a few points isn't enough. You need to come up with some ideas.

What do you want to see done differently to make our community better? Take each complaint you have, and suggest some alternatives to make them right in your own mind.

Hank, I started this thread only to make people start to think. Sadly, you have made it into a verbal argument, which is both immature and rude.

Ok, good stuff. It deserves some thought. I think that the new changes are extremely minor. They represent a small change in the worth of the L$ that will ripple throughout SL... and in the end, have no effect on anyone.

Those who desire to have an unlimited supply of money for no effort unintentionally undermine the economy. Money for nothing means worthless money -- infinite inflation.

Those who desire position for no effort are deluded. SL is like RL -- you are what you can accopmlish, through your efforts or through your creations. Either way, someone who does nothing but log on shouldn't expect access to the same privileges as those who pay, create, and, organize.

Okay, I'll just leave it there then. Good luck with your quest to change SL.

If you're new Eugene, this is pretty much how things go in the forum. You'll pose a question or have an idea and a group of people will beat you to death with negativity.

Most replies will disagree with every point you make. Additionally, there will be name calling, mockery, and bullying. There is little room for logical arguments or friendly discussions, where people elaborate on and help you form your ideas. This is about beating people with threatening viewpoints into silence.

When you see someone turn negative, just walk away from the thread. Really. You'll be much happier for it.

i will still go to my grave thinking these threads are a well crafted joke. if they aren't they should be.

Eugene i'm not in a position to point the n00b finger at you but you might want to stick around more than a month before you go saying sl is uncultured and not meeting its potential. those things depend on the individual not the community anyway. and as for the recent changes, you barely had time to get used to how things were before so don't worry about it. like Cubey said it's not going to make much difference in the end.

and just in case you aren't joking with all this......

1. you can buy as much property as you want but it's not free. pay a tier fee like everyone else in SL.

2. oh no L$25! i guess i can see the appeal of having a big number under your name but the glory is transitory Eugene. no one will be your friend just cause you got a big rating. if you don't like the fee just ignore the whole rating system. alot of people do.

3. nobody said you have to buy things or that you have to pay real money for them. there are plenty of L$ land sales. anyway, it's the something for nothing argument again.

4. um......you do realize the Lindens are a monopoly too dontcha? anyway the threat of monopolies is pretty slim and if you think someone's starting to take over an area just take part of it back. i dunno......you can be pretty damn self sufficient and independent in sl if you want to be.
