Hi I'm Eugene Pomeray and i am upset about the SL government.
Here Some Of My Complaints:
- Why Do We Have Land Ownage Limits : I can only buy a 512m property!
- Charging 25L$ For A Rating!
- Charging Real $ for land etc. I came to second life to escape from my financial troubles, and to escape from the real world, but now they are changing it all.
- Monopolies - The Lindens have to start trust busting!.

I shouldn't be selfish. There's plenty of good material here for the others, so I'll limit myself to one of your more "spirited" points. Why is there a limit to the amount of land you can hold? Because in SL, much like the real world, you don't get everything for nothing. Monthly tier fees are just one of the many ways in which the Lindens attempt to earn a profit. If you want more land, pay more money. Look at it another way: since prim use is directly tied land, you are essentially paying for the privelege to use more computing resources. But of course, such justifications are unnecessary. Think about all of the other MMORPGs and online communities you've ever heard of. Can you name one where they give you unlimited power/resources/etc without any effort on your part? Do you post to Everquest's forums demanding an uber-level character account? |

They have to have some way to limit the resources, and charging for makes sense. Yes, the RL rich will have more capability in SL, however I am definately not RL rich... Actually, my SL experience is self supporting. 2) So now ratings have a meaning. 3) If the Lindens just gave away unlimited land for free, there would be no SL, since they would be broke. 4) Monopolies - Where? What industry is owned by a monopoly? If there is an monopoly, it would be fairly simple to bust up - just make a competing product. |

Do you have some suggestions how else they could pay for the bandwidth and servers so that SL can exist? _____________________

A lot of the stuff in the SL forums is kind of like the stuffed mushrooms I just made.
I've never made stuffed mushrooms before. I didn't follow a recipe. I just threw together some grated cheese, ham, spices, and salad dressing, put them into some mini portabello mushrooms, threw the whole thing in the oven at 350F for 15 minutes. They were very tasty stuffed mushrooms. What do these stuffed mushrooms have anything to do with anything? Absolutely nothing.
