I am not nearly feted enough to know whether this has been done before but...

Post your first post in the forums, and then your most recent post in the forums! If you have more than 500 (the max that you can search easily), then post the oldest that you can find.

The first person to complain that their first post was wiped with the forum switch, gets the feted inner hedonism badge of the year - just use the first post that you can find. ;)

My first:

Hi all - new to SL and it's awesome!!!

I tried to use the search on the forum and didn't get any results.

Anybody have any good cel shading tutorials?

Thanks!!!!

My first post

From: someone
Hi,

I'm sorry if this has been answered before, but I could not seem to find the answer to my problem.

I can start and explore and use second life with no problems at all. However, when I exit the program, my computer always restarts by itself. Always.

Is there anything that I can do to fix this problem?

I am currently using a P4 2Ghz, 512 Ram, NVIDIA Geforce4 MX 440 for display, running on Win XP.

Thanks in advance for your reply and have a good day ahead

From: Land Editing Weirdness

Not really weirdness but couldn't think of another word for it, anyway, heres what happens.

I'm trying to flatten a part of my land, right now its a big ditch and isn't level witht he rest of the property, the only trouble is the ditch wont raise any higher or flatten to the level of the rest of the property, it will go lower and flatten DOWN to ITS level, but wont flatten up to the other level, the ditch is deep enough that theres water.

Whats going on here? Am I missing something? I tried using an object to raise it, that didn't work either, the land just wont seem to budge any higher. There is another property right next to it, but I don't see how that would make any difference as I've edited my other land that is next to other properties without any problems.

In PS with the supplied templates, the working layer is set to like 45% opacity or something like that so you can see the template below... makes it look darker to me too. Just boost the opacity to 100% and it should look right.

This is the oldest one I could find for me, its dated 6/26/03, in the feature suggestion forum. I dont know if I am responsible, but today we do indeed have the option to turn off the online/offline notifications.
From: someone
Greetings.

I made this suggestion at an orientation tonight and wanted to pass it along to see if I am the only one who desires this tweak to he HUD.

Like many of you, I have plenty of calling cards. I get a little annoyed by the notices of who I know coming online and going offline. It is a cool feature, I just think we should be notified differently. The notice appearing in the chat text area is somewhat distracting to me, especally when involved in a conversation with many people.

I would like to suggest that these notices be an option in my preferences. I dont necessarily need to know when people are coming and going. If I want to see if anyone is online, I just go to my tracking map to see there. If it cant be a preference, perhaps it could appear at the top of the screen and not within the chat text area.

Support, comments, better suggestions? Cheers.

The first that I can find, though I don't thinki it was my actual first:

From: someone
Use Caution

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am all for legalizing marijuana, but thats about it. And even then it should have an 18 year old age requirement. I smoke pot, and have throughout my life. It IS addictive, even if just mentally so, (though it sure felt like a physical addiction to me). I presently only do a little here and there, and never search it out, but when I went from being a heavy pot smoker to an occasional one, it was damn tough.

Also, pot can be very bad on your drive and ambition and active lifestyle. Not all those commercials are false.

As to more mind altering drugs, I would have to say no to legalization. Sure, the government shouldn't be able to tell us what to do with our own bodies. Unfortunately, some of these drugs can alter rational thought in such a way that people do incredibly stupid or harmful things, not just to themselves, but to others. I've done many types of drugs, at least the old-timer ones, such as acid (in it's many forms), coke, pure THC, peyote, crank, pcp (angel dust), mescaline, shrooms, about 30 kinds of speed, opium, and many types of tranquilzers and perscription drugs (for recreational purposes). I know for a fact that most of them DO cloud your judgement. And that can, and sometimes does, lead to so dangerous or harmful situations to others, not just the person doing the drug.

I'd be all for letting anyone do anything they wanted as long as they were watched or guarded or in a full proof safe place. But that will never be the case...

And my most recent (besides this):

What a fun read! Very nice job, and a great way to build up the anticipation.

And nice job Jeska on slippin in the forum reference. Was very funny!

If anything, the ship leaving the atmosphere leads me to believe it might be a more futuristic area, or perhaps an area that has some alien type ruins or structures on it here and there. Perhaps something like the Lost Continent of Atlantis?

From: Olympia Rebus
Does SL have an online postcard (or e card) setup? The postcards could either be personal snapshots or linden selected pics. It would be fun to send them to friends (look what I saw/did/made today) and would be good publicity for SL

Olympia

The at same week, (and totally naive about rating etiquite/controversy) I posted this howler:
From: Olympia Rebus
Can there be an easier way to rate someone who's just rated you?
Often I'm in a huge crowd and get rated by a few people. Usually I try to rate them positivly in return, but the "So and so has rated you positivly" note is only up for seconds, and even if I get a glimpse of who it was, it's often hard to find them in a crowd. Maybe the "...has rated you" popup could have a "recipricate?" button which would give you the option to imediatly rate them in return.

Yup. Nothing like a good first impression.
At the time I was more concerned with offending someone by "not rating them back" as oppossed scoring lots of rates. Still, in retrospect it looks dopey.
Sorta the forum version of showing up with spinich between my teeth. :o

haha, I used to be pretty damn clueless!...

From: someone
I'm sure it's much too late to suggest new features but here's what I think would be wonderful in regards to clothing... have one more layer for front (chest) and back decals. It would be a standard size and you'd use an alpha channel. It would be a straight planar projection applied *after* any body morphs. Of course the engine would need to be capable of supporting more than one set of UV coords per poly and I'm assuming it doesn't currently allow that. Having a decal layer would sure make clothing design and tattoos easier to create.

Uhhhhh... doh! I'm sure it made sense to me at the time.

And for my most recent post...

I clicked land in the navigation bar from the forums, and it asked me to log in. I logged in and hit submit, and found myself at the U.S. Bureau of Land Management site. Both funny ha-ha and funny strange. Backing up in my browser, I was able to reach the SL land page.

this would TRULY be revolutionary!!!
