Linden Labs - When do Lifetime Memberships end?

When will lifetime memberships no longer be offered?

Can you *please* keep lifetime membership join-up open through Christmas? It is the only time some of us will have the disposable money to make such a personal investment with.

Good luck Briana...

I can't see myself having that sort of disposable cash for a long time to come... and I already have enough to fill over half a lifetime member's allocation!

Looks like I'll be scaling back ... or relying on others to hold land for me...

Brianne--->I'm not sure this matter for you, but:

I just bought my lifetime membership.

I don't have to pay for it till Feburary.

You don't actually have to pay for your upgrade until your current subscription runs out.

I paid 3 months, so I don't have to pay till Feburary.

So I upgraded now, and just have to save $200 to make sure I have enough in my bank account in Feburary :-)

There are a limited numbere of lifetime accounts. I don't know how many more are left, but they are gone when the supply runs out.

For some of us, Christmas gifts are given in the form of money. Being a student, unemployed, married mother of 2, living on student loans, grants, scholarship and military college fund, christmas money will be the only option I have to "buy into" Second Life and preserve the lifestyle that my hardwork inworld has allowed me to achieve. (Ok so maybe I would not be so well off I didn't have a Sugar Momma named Taessa Weaver :p) But now this is irrelevant since the Linden money we earned probably will not have the same value if we wanted to invest in land with it.

Of all the things I can buy in a month, I choose to sacrifice things like.. new jeans, face cream, maybe a monthly manicure, salon hair products for grocery store/generic (big hurt there too with long hair), and other small items. But I do this to maintain the relationships I have formed in Second Life.

I will gladly pay for a Lifetime membership with Christmas money (since it's money I never had anyways), and then continue to pay $25/month (since I already use a 2nd account to secure a 2 person group), because I am making RL sacrifices to keep something else I hold dear, Second Life and the relationships.

So, I won't grief the changes. It will change some aspects of how I percieve Second Life and those I encounter for sure.. But.. I love Second Life, and rather see it here thanks to my $25/mo and Lifetime membership fee, than see it gone next year, along with all the really cool people I have met.

YAY!! I just did the same thing! What a great day! Thank you so much for that informative post Bit. I was so bummed out that I had not considered the "billing cycle". Yes so in January, my Christmas cash will be well spent!

If Bri and I misinterpretted the next-billing date thing, will some Linden warn us so we can sell a kidney or two to cover our balance?

Thanks :)

As long as you don't try to ebay your kidney ;)

I'm definitely thinking about the lifetime membership, myself. Will have to go check out what I currently have inworld and see how things shape up. (this is what I get for electing sleep instead of playing)

If you pay by CC and dont mind floating the balance then you dont really have to pay it until the bill comes in (or bill cycle after). Personally I hate using CC's but it is an option.

You are upgraded and pilled the day 2.1 comes out, so I read. (I'll look for the Linden post and link it here.) They are aiming for Dec 22nd, since they want to have it out before Xmas so people can play with it over their vacations.

Well I hope it goes well. Siobhan and I just took the next step together and got lifetime memberships as well.

Will they reimburse the ones that have the more than one month left? Like those who subscribed to a 3, 6, or year?

They keep them in a box in the office supply cabinet at Linden Labs.

A LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP PRIMER

There are 76 Lifetime Memberships left!

Please make sure you understand the plan before you make the commitment - it does not automatically provide you with 4,096 square meters of contiguous land.

1.The Lifetime Membership allows you to hold up to 4,096 square meters of land without paying monthly land use fees .

2. You'll still need to acquire the land, which you can do either with $L (from other players or at auction) or $US (at auction starting after the release of v1.2). There won't be a specific plot of that size held aside for you, unfortunately.

3. Our current plan is to bill Lifetime Memberships after the v1.2 code release (on or around 12/22) for those of you who are converting from a different plan, to enable you to immediately take advantage of the v1.2 benefits. If that's a hardship for you, please send a mail to billing@lindenlab.com and we'll discuss what your options might be individually.

When do I switch over to the new subscription rate? I am paid through Jan 6th on a month to month basis. Is the 22nd the date to start or do I wait until the 6th? I'd like to go ahead and get started on the new plan if at all possible. I got the email stating what rate I'd be at.

If you switch to lifetime now, you'll be billed on the 22nd unless you arrange other terms with the Lindens. I don't know when the change takes place for people on other plans.

For people who are not changing their plans, but continuing with their current plan type (monthly, quarterly, annual) you will start receiving the lower rates on your first billing date after v1.2 releases.

So, for example, if you currently pay $14.95 per month, and your billing date is on the 13th of the month, you will be billed $9.95 on January 13, 2004.

What about people with big projects who will be paying more?

Say I have 1/4 of a sim for some project and I have paid for a year in advance. Will I start have to pay $75 a month starting on my billing date?

I think at the very least, people who have paid in advance should get a $14.95 credit for each of the months they have remaining on their plan.

Drathor -- sounds complicated. Please send a mail to support@lindenlab.com and we'll look at your specific situation and help you figure it out.

Just curiosity here. How many Lifetime memberships are there in total?

Also, I'm wondering, ar there people who bought the lifetime but just don't play anymore?

I was thinking, maybe if they just don't want to come back to SL at all, if they agreed to release their lifetimes, could those be recycled to offer more lifetimes?

Did that make sense?
