ohh and for the record...I want children to have good families as well. But regulating eggs and sperm will not do it. Shutting down benefits for having kids willy nilly...now that might be the answer. As I write for a living, I learned a long time ago that people will read what they want to read. My thoughts are incidental.

Has anybody read The Handmaid's Tale, a very well-written and rather chilling novel by (one of my favorite authors) Margaret Atwood? Neehai's cleverly contrived (and unsettling) constructs in this thread caused me to think of this book. If you haven't read it, I'd highly recommend it; it's actually classified as being part of the sci-fi genre, though the main body of Atwood's work isn't in that particular vein.

But really enlighten me Nee..show me where I missed the boat. I really want to understand where the hell you are coming from on this and why you would want to create a larger rift between those of differing sexual preferences.

divisiveness. This is what I have always fought against and always will on both sides. Kittens in jars are a far cry from baby camps.

And those who want me to read between the lines do not fight tooth and nail for their position. Isis, Neehai is using satire to make a point. For a famous example of this brand of enlightening "humor," check out A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift, written in 1729. Swift, an Irishman who was protesting the incorporation and mistreatment of his country by the English, used this same type of extreme argument to shock and prove a point.

I am not so dull not to see a point. But my point is that satire is wonderful when not pushed to the point of hurting those it wishes to enlighten. And seeing as how most truths are said in jest...I am still a bit miffed if not insulted by some of the propositions. Pardon me for being dull...it is my nature and I doubt that after 28 years it will change too drastically. You must admit that the suppositions in this thread have moved far beyond humor and satire right into prejudice and bias.

And I have read modest proposal and have a faint understanding of the roots of satire. Though I am by far the least intelligent of the group, I do have some background in literature.

I am sorry, you were not insulting. Nee however is. And I am sorry, some things are fair game. My ovaries are not. When a man says that breeding camps should be installed in the US because of whatever reason it is just not right. I don't really know how else to express my ire at his insinuation that child neglect would be curbed by breeding camps. If it is a joke then touche moi. If not then touche. I will not idly stand by and laugh off this sort of malarchy when I have spent my entire adult life fighting for the rights of all people. It is a slap in my face, so yes, I take it personally.

Being in on a joke feels good...but when the joke is about you it stings. This joke was about me. The single woman with no children who wants a family....a nuclear sort of family...Now that family is being brought into question...accused of child neglect. I am being shown that someone actually wants me to have to register to have a child after all these years that I have fought to allow everyone sexual freedoms. It's hard to understand emotion behind type sometimes -- I've been accused of being 'full of rage', where as anyone thats known me for more than 4 minutes finds that accusation hilarious.
