I've been thinking about this thread, and I thought I'd share with you all the philosophy I have behind my DJ'ing ...it goes something like this: 1. Stick it to "the man" whenever you can (I.E. play a lot of stuff that you don't hear on megamedia controlled radio). There's SOOOO much awesome music out there and it's not getting heard as much as it should because of asshats like Clearchannel. I'm all about expanding people's musical horizons as much as possible and DJ'ing allows me to do that. 2. Play GOOD music! This is a judgement call of course, but I have never had any real complaints about what I play, mostly compliments and stuff like "HEY WOW I haven't heard this song in a long time!" or "Awesome tune!". True, I have played my fill of "Bodies" for sure! And if someone does request it (or any other overplayed club tune), I might suggest to them that I'll play a DIFFERENT/BETTER song from the same artist, or even surprise them by playing a cover of the tune they requested. 3. As far as requests go, I reserve the right to play or not play any song that is requested, but 99% of the time I do oblidge my audience and play what they wanna hear. The real problem ones are when someone requests an obvious genre/mood clash that really wouldn't fit in with what I am currently playing. I can usually be bribed with Lindenbucks though! I am a DJ'ing ho! 4. I typically set up my entire playlist prior to coming on live, but that often gets all shifted around fitting in requests n such, which is cool by me as long as it doesn't violate rule #2! 5. Make it FUN! It's all about the fun of it all, the thrill people get when they hear "their" song, and the feeling I get for doing something that makes people so happy. It's definitely a rewarding experience for me personally! Once in a while I will have impromptou little contests where I give away small amounts of Lindenbucks for guessing the artist, "what movie is this from", or other trivia like that. More or less I do this to keep people interested in what they are hearing, and to see who is actually paying attention to me! Peace and Happy Building! Arti
