Ratings to cost L$25

Yep, this'll suck for the newbies. Seriously. Bad, bad idea.

It won't just suck for the newbies, actually. It'll suck for everyone. It's the newbies who fly around randomly and buy more stuff, anyway. I remember saving up for things and the only way I could do that was through ratings, since I didn't yet know how to create anything worthwhile (and of course there's the L$10 per texture).

Well, we'll see how this pans out. It's nice to know that the Lindens actually listen to us, anyway. I can see 'em sitting around trying to figure out how to make everyone happy. So thanks. But it's still an iffy situation.

a rating was meant to be a way of saying: you have done something above average.
it became: hi; I want to sleep with you; rate me back; I want more money Tuesday rate me back; now U rate me; hugz <3; and occasionally, I'd rate you for doing something above average but I already rated you.
This is a step towards turning the system into the system it was meant to be.
Rather than something abused constantly.

Problem is the people who will abuse it still will and this will just cost the rest of us more to give out honest ratings.

"Hey! I 'll pay you 75 if you pay me 75 and we can rate each other." Just adds more BS to go through for the honest person and the rate abusers could care less. They would spend all nite trying to get back at you. Do we honestly believe more money will inhibit this?

Not to mention this could spring up 'tagging' businesses because now there is money in it.

This is a pretty easy to overlook point.

LL just made it two and one-half times less "important" to upload a sound, texture or whatever than to act "social".....

That's a good point, but what I meant was ... I couldn't really create anything 'cause I didn't have the funds to upload the textures without getting more rates (because I was relying on my stipend).

And also, I would think that making it easier to create stuff would be better, no? I mean, wouldn't it be sort of stupid to raise the taxes if you wanted to create something? If you think about it, if it costs more to rate someone than to create stuff, where should your money go?

I dont recall LL asking what we thought of thier changes before they totally ruined the economy... not only with ratings, with stipend and events...

Umm ya, no need to be like that, i don't like the increase, i don't like the rating system either. I was just replying to your saying your no longer taking part in the ratiing system.

My point was Im sure ALOT of ppl will be considering their rates IF they do them at all.

Well perhaps people will stop living off wellfare and actually do somehing usefull.

And the value of L$ is still half of what it should be.

From now on I wont rate someone just cause they rated me.

Everyone was always in the mindset, well they keep paying me so I guess I'm allowed to do it.

And the events junk,, Well tadaa thats what happens when people abuse it regularly.

Not everyone who is upset with these changes lives off welfare and they do alot in the SL community Mr. Clueless!

Well I gotta say, this kinda sucks, I mean personally I live off my stipend and money I have made in the past, cos I have NO clue on how to build or script, and the clothes I make are hardly worth the time made making them.

So what about the poor uncreative souls like me, that rely on their stipends? I am not endorsing mass rates or anything like that, but you gotta throw a lifeline to the people that have no creativity or skills to create....

I don't get it, why rate at all now? It will cost $25 per rating and the person being rated gets what? Nothing. It doesn't matter. A year from now when only us old folks have ratings the newbies will stare in confusion. From what is being said, the delta is gone so who cares what your rating is? With only a $50 or $500 stipend, who the heck is going to rate anyone?

I agree. If they are changing it from 'next to freebie ratings that were farmed' to 'wow. this actually means something, it cost them L$25 to do this!' then yes, it's not the same thing at all. Wipe em and start again or it means even less than it does now.

Oh come on! Get real here... this is not the real world! We don't have to join the rat race and knuckle down 5 days a week to earn a wage!

This is supposed to be fun! A game! Some people come here to chat, play games, dance... if they didnt, the people that run events and clubs wouldnt have any customers to make them dwell, because they'd all be out there working to make money!

I propose that those people with money pay me to rate them positively. Say, $25 per rating, plus an additional $25 fee for me. I don't mind the rich getting good ratings, as long as I can benefit, too.

As a matter of fact, I will formally organize a "ratings exchange" and match those who are willing to pay big bucks for good ratings with those who are willing to sell themselves for money to do it. Come to think of it, I will also organize the exchange to match those who are willing to pay big bucks to neg rate someone else with those who are willing to sell themselves to do it. The neg rate service will be a bit more expensive, of course.

This is my new SL business. I will announce the name, location, and details of my rating exchange tomorrow, after I've had time to find my greedy bastard mask and wear it for a few hours.

Why should you have to be forced to do something useful in SL? People have every right to come and relax and not build / run anything. What's wrong with having a minor stipend?
